I know it's kinda early to assume how well the 2008 and 2009 drafts will pan out since it usually takes 2-3 years afterward. However I think we have an idea where those players drafted are headed, example Greene is probably going to be a good one while the Ghost will probably be a bust, maybe the biggest in Jets history. But we are exactly 30 days away from our first draft of the new decade and I wanted to see which class served us best the last 10 years. I probably have to go with the 2000 draft with 2007 finishing a close second. The 2000 draft had both quality and quantity whereas Darrelle Revis will be the best player drafted of this decade. David Harris might be the best LB we drafted this decade. Harris and Vilma are hard to rank against each other since they are completely different one being a 4-3 LB the other a 3-4 LB.
2006 - three Pro Bowlers in Mangold, Brick and Washington. Not to mention the recent emergence of Brad Smith and Eric Smith.
Although some drafts had better depth, I think it's hard to argue that drafting a franchise qb and rb in the same draft can be topped by much. Of course, it depends, as you said, on how things pan out.
its either 2000, 2006 or 2007. 2007 because Revis is going to go down as the best who ever lived, and Harris is no slouch either. 2006 because bringing in Brick and Mangold solidified our line, and is the reason its the best in the NFL today. 2000 4 first round picks, two elite DE's our QB savior (at the time) and Coles was the receiver of the 2000's for the Jets whether you liked him or not, you can't deny it. Cotch is a close 2, but Coles was here nearly the entire decade and was a starter in 02, came back in 05 and started until we let him walk last year, Cotch didnt become a starter till 06. This draft was the reason we could make that stellar 2002 which alone makes it one of the top 3 classes of the decade.
Difficult...Jets have had few decent drafts. I went with 2007...REVIS and Harris.......our 2 best defensive players.
The class of 2000 was good, we got some good player but honestly none of them ever really had a constant level of production. HOWEVER, in 2007 we drafted someone who is probably going to be dominant force in the NFL for years. In addition, Harris just finished playing his first full season, I honestly think if it were not for the Vilma and Barton his rookie year, and his knee injury in year two he would be at the same level of linebacker as Revis is to corner
I am going to have to say 2006. There is too much depth and top end talent to not vote for that year.
Notice he skipped over 2008. A former regular poster, who is no longer with us, would have casted his write in ballot for 2008 and Gladys.
If 2007 had one or two more picks, I would easily hand it to that year. 2006 just gave us too many Pro Bowlers. And I say it like its bad thing....:grin:
2007 had better players overall, 2006 had more depth. I went with 2007 but you could take either one.
2000 draft easy: # 1 WR (Coles) Starting QB (Pennington) One of the top pass rushers in the league (Abraham) Starting DE for more than a decade (Ellis) Starting TE (Becht) Five picks, five starters can't say that about the other drafts.
John Abraham has also been a dominant force for years. Just because he is now a dominant force for the Falcons doesn't mean the pick wasn't awesome.
