GH, if you are the Jets gm on draft day, and both Sapp and joeseph are the guys you want, would you look to trade down and ad get them a few picks later or do you want to stand pat thinking that they won't be there if you trade back? It sounds to me like Joseph is your must get guy at the end of the second, but with sapp is he the guy you are hoping falls to us at 29? or is he just the best guy available for us in your eyes based on the way the board fell?
I have work today so I will be gone from 11AM to around 8-9PM so you shoulden't PM me anything for today, Wednesday or Friday Other days I am usually around though.
I'm liking the Linval Joseph pick, probably not a sexy pick but its a good one with hopefully some nice long term value
I'm a big fan of the Joseph pick. From what I've seen & read, he's eerily Jenkins-like. As GH mentioned too, he has the athleticism to step into the DE role for us while we also groom him to be the NT of the future for when Jinx finally hangs 'em up. Also, I like the Sapp pick....I don't love it but I like it. It's a bit of a reach value-wise because his sack #'s aren't as flashy as someone like Hughes, but I like him overall as a player. His athleticism could also make him more well rounded than some other picks in the draft. Ideally, we'd find a trading partner with someone who was enamored with someone left at 29, hop down into the early 2nd, and still grab Sapp. Still, it's a bold pick and I woudn't hate it.
Warhound7's pick is up in about a half hour. I'm too close to make a pick for him, anyone around up for doing it if he doesn't show?
Ok so far my Saints have 1) Brian Price, DT, UCLA 2) Navorro Bowman, LB, Penn St. Bowman is very talented with some off the field issues, but I feel that championship locker room will keep his problems in tact. With the loss of Scott Fujita the 4-3 OLB had to be filled, and Bowman can do that.
I think that it would be smart for the Jets to trade down out of the first round unless they see someone with great value at that spot. I'm obviously a big fan of Ricky Sapp, but I would take that risk and drop down into the 2nd and hope he's still there. With the way the board fell, he was the best bet, but there are other options available that the Jets can look for. Getting as many mid round picks as possible should be a priority, because they would be able to get some really outstanding depth players in Rds 3-5. As for Joseph, I wouldn't play around with his slot much. He's a unique talent to me, and he really is a "must-get" in this draft with the Jets system.
