From everything I've read , Cody should be a good fit. We he fall to us though? Even though hes being projected as a 2nd rounder? Value there at 29?

With Dan Williams looking to go in the 'teens I'd love him at 29. Doubt he gets past San Diego though.

meh...San Diego is in DIRE need of running backs. If Cody is there @29...i'd be ecstatic if the Jet grabbed him.

Pouha is over 30...I think it would fill a need.

I hope he falls to us but with his recent weight loss I think he might have moved up into the low 20s

Pouha can also play end on run downs.Adding Cody would just as good as adding a d.e. since it would free up Pouha and Jenkins to move around the line as well as adding to the rotation to help keep Jenkins fresh. This would be a good pick i.m.o.

I don't like how he fits in the Jets 34. Some teams have those monster tackles that just sits like a blob in the middle of the field, but the Jets seem to have found success with their two big, but also athletic Nose Tackles. Jenkins and Pouha are both rather graceful for men their size, and there are other guys later in the draft that would work better. Also, as I say in all NT/DE threads, I'd prefer to find someone that can be a NT of the future while being able to play DE in the short term.

Pouha Schmouha. I'm not totally sold on Cody, but Jenkins' days are numbered and Pouha is definitely not the starting quality NT that we need holding the middle. We had to switch to a 4 man front way too many times in the second half of 2009.

  11. I'm in full agreement w/ you about Cody not being a perfect fit..and I mentioned this in a draft thread acouple months ago.

However, I'm starting to warm up to the idea of drafting him b/c I think it'd allow some flexibility w/ both Jenkins and Pouha who have the athleticism to play some occassional DE in the base 3 man front. This would create further match up problems for the opposing offense as well as take some of the typical wear off of Jenkins.

I also have concerns about teams like Miami and Balty who we will be contending w/ for the next several years and their power running games. We can most def. defend the pass...but do we have the horses to be dominant against the run as well? Right now we're solid but not elite...Cody would be a nice addition and upgrade.

I think Linval Joseph is a much better fit, but we can't guarentee that he will be with the 61 pick, especially if SD passes on Cody in the first. Cody I think can be more of penetrator as long as he can keep his weight down. I forget who they were playing I think it was Tennessee, He just bull rushed the center knocked his ass down and blocked a FG, twice. Especially in the beginning where he wouldnt be on the field as much, I think he could provide great depth and energy as a back up to Jenkins. Plus imagine people trying to run on us on the goal line or on 4th and short. It would be impossible. If he is there then I think you have to take him.

I think the so-called "dire needs" on the defensive line are overrated.

Everyone is quick to point out that Pouha is 31. "Must be past his prime, he's 31." I don't think so. I don't even think he's hit his peak yet. I'd guess Pouha has another three years left, at least, before age starts to affect him

Yes, Pouha is 31, but he's only been playing pro ball for five years. Of those five years, he barely saw the field during his first two. So we're talking about roughly three years of wear and tear at a position that tends to value age, durability and experience over youth and athleticism.

Take a look at Aubrayo Franklin over in San Fran. Not much more than a JAG for his first five years in the league. Now he's hitting his peak right around 30.

There's need at DE, but once again, I don't think it is as urgent as everyone's made it out to be. Because of this guy, Squints McGirthy:

Mikey D is only 25, and while I'm optimistic Pouha hasn't hit his prime yet, I'm nearly certain DeVito hasn't hit his. I think he's going to be a big part of our defensive line for most of the decade.

In my ideal little world, we pick up Tyson Alualu in round two to start, and DeVito and Pouha rotate in when fatigue or injuries take their toll. If we do that, we've got three guys at each position (DeVito, Alualu and Pouha) who can lay the foundation of this d-line for years to come.

Agreed! I think Jenks would be a great mentor for him in more ways than one.

I think he'd be a great fit here.Think about a 3rd and long with Ellis, Cody and Jenkins on the line and Scott and Harris Blitzing up the gut. There's no way one or more are not coming in clean. With Revis and Cro on the corners that would be lethal.

Cody screams first round bust to me. I'm not basing this on stats or team needs... Just a gut feeling that he'll never be a competent starter. I would take Mays over Cody and I think Mays is going to be pretty bad in this league too.

To add: Cody's size and lack of athleticism (IMHO) will be to his demerit in the NFL where the level of skill and competition increases five fold.

Our run defence improved once jenkins went out. Whether that was pouha or improved play by the line i dont know. I do know that Cody is a two down player just as jenkins and pouha are. Having them all in rotation would be nice, but i think DE is a bigger need when we already have 2 very good nose tackles.

I think Cody will be available, seeing is how I cant imagine the Broncos, Cardinals, and the Chargers could pass on Williams. Also the Cardinals have other possitions to fill, where if the talent and value match up, could mean they pass on Cody. Cody is not my favorite option but I wouldn't be opposed to it
