Well, Kansas City now has a bunch of undersized speed backs. Jabba's getting finding a lot of weapons for the Chiefs.
That was my pick for Pittsburgh...Im not even sure Best really fits in KC, but nothing I can do now...
No way I'm letting a 32 Year old Thomas Jones (who looked shot down the stretch last year) make me pass on a talent like Jahvid Best in the middle of round two. NO CHANCE I would ever let that happen, and I don't care if Jamal Charles is similar either "Similar" and "AS GOOD" are two different things, and IMO Charles is not in the same league as Best Just Sayin'
Did Kurt ever explain the Tebow selection? I'd like to here why he took him when Josh Freeman was taken last year.
He was. I had him and Jahvid Best as my top 2 for my next pick. This of course after McCourty, Alualu, and their moms all got picked up. Anyway, Brandon Ghee is a pick I felt safe with going into this round....Steelers need alot of secondary help with their CB's getting torched left and right. Ghee is athletic as hell and solid in run support. His technique needs some coaching, but he has a very high ceiling as far as talent goes.
Im definitely ok with Slow ass Brandon Spikes ending up on the Pats as a 2nd rounder. I was contemplating taking him earlier, but between his off field issues and his slow ass timed speed, I definitely don't see him as anything better than a 3rd. At best....
There was no DE at that point that can play in a 34 near the kind of value for that pick. Based on your later selection of Corey Wootton, I honestly don't think you understand what kind of players work in that defense, and what kind of players don't. It makes perfect sense, Hughes is a part time players and Ricky Sapp isn't. Hughes knows passrushing, he's very solid at it, but that's the extent of his game. I don't dislike Jerry Hughes, a lot of people here joke about him a lot, but in all seriousness he's not a bad player. However, I agree with the opinion that he looks like a pass rush specialist more than anything else. Could he be better? Sure, but certainly the fact that he dominated stats in the Mountain West isn't going to shake my opinion. What separates Ricky Sapp and Jerry Hughes, especially for this Jets football team, is that Sapp is a linebacker. He is a true, tested linebacker. He's played both positions at Clemson and excelled as a senior when he was asked to drop back a good portion of the time. Did he get a ton of sacks? No, but he was a backfield terror whenever they turned him loose, getting 15 tackles for loss and showing his incredible athletic ability. The kid is explosive in every aspect of his game, from rushing to pursuit in the run game, and is very intelligent on the field. He is basically a more athletically gifted version of Calvin Pace. Smart, versatile, and capable of playing both the run and the pass. Relentless in pursuit and a leader on the field. He's got the skillset to be that third LB, and take over a starting job whenever he's needed. I don't understand why people say he's overrated, when he's really not given credit for being one of the truly proven 34 OLB prospects. Price never factored into the pick, he's not the type of player the Jets would be looking for in a 34 End. He's a 3 tech, about as pure as they come. Could he provide an inside passrush? Maybe, that would take a lot of work on his part. He'd have to learn to play against more doubles than he'd have to face in a 43, and most importantly he'd have to really develop his run defense to get on the field consistently. His game is explosion into the backfield, and in a 3 man line missteps early mean linebackers get blocked. Price can be very good, but for the relative future in a 43. He tore an ACL and missed like 2 games... I'm not thinking that's substantial, but thanks again for showing your complete lack of understanding. That's where you kill me Jabba. You can't just base evaluating some of these guys on stats, they're totally different players. Sapp is a proven, capable linebacker, a perfect fit, and a versatile, intelligent, and relentless football player. Not to mention, a disgusting athlete. BTW, sorry for the massively late response, been on a plane for most of today.
If you want to defend a pick, that's how you do it. No one really stands out to me there, and if you want to convince me a guy can rush the passer, I'm fine with that because that's what I want in a player.
Cane I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said here, I just have a different idea of what constitutes a 1st RD caliber 34OLB ... if I'm taking an OLB for the 34 defense in RD 1, he has to be an elite edge rusher or he can't make the type of impact I'm looking for from that position ... for me he has to be a Charles Haley or Pat Swilling, not Mo Lewis or Calvin Pace ... and besides that, we already have a Calvin Pace and BT is that type of player as well, so we have those types of OLB's, the problem is we DO NOT have that elite edge rusher you can pretty much count on for double-digit sacks. Its those types of defensive players who coined the phrase "IMPACT PLAYER" Those are the guys who can "WRECK THE GAME" IMO you need that player in todays NFL, be it a 43DE like Freeney/Mathis or a 34OLB like DeMarcus Ware. Unless you have a lethal offense, I think its very hard, even close to impossible to win a SB in todays NFL without that player, and IMO we don't have that player on this current Jets roster ... and I don't see Sapp being that player either ... if he wasn't that type of player verses college OT's, I don't see him becoming that player verses NFL OT's
I dont mean to sound sarcastic, but please explain, I respect your knowledge as a poster and any information or opinion you have would be more than helpful
One more thing to consider, GH .. I alluded to it in my prior post, but just to elaborate To win a SB you ordinarily have to go through QB's like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc. At some point you almost always have to beat one or more of the elite passers in the NFL to win a SB There are only two ways to get that done barring a fluke ... 1. Out-Score them in a shootout (i.e. you have a lethal offense too) 2. Hit them all day without being overly reliant on the blitz, in which case at least one elite edge rusher is essential Having said that, I think most of us would agree the Jets are RIGHT NOW a legit SB contender, so IMO the focus here has to be on getting over that hump
Indeed my friend is right. I was out when i got the text from ww85 and didn't wanna slow down the draft for everyone. For whatever reason, i had forgotten at the time that I had 3 Tampa picks for before my first Carolina one...i thought Tebow would be a great pick up for the Panthers. But for the sake of validity and argument, I'll rationalize my far fetched pick.I trade Johnson who traded for a late round draft pick and Tebow comes aboard as a long term prospect behind Freeman and also contributes in the wildcat and other situational offenses.
I don't want Hughes on this team and it has nothing to do with "hate" like Jabba thinks. He's a 4-3 end and that's it. ...also, bringing up his stat total is meaningless. He played in a mid-major conference against smaller, less athletic offensive linemen...so those totals mean nothing to me. I don't mind the Ricky Sapp pick. With the way the board fell, I actually kind of like it.
