I know Davis' stock is falling, but I thought he was too good of a value to pass up at that point, especially since the Cards have a big need at LT. Davis is a great run blocker, so I think he'll do well for Beanie Wells and the Cards' power running game.
Thanks, I really liked the Wilson and Odrick picks (hoping he falls to the Jets). I don't love Spiller to SF, only because I feel like at 13 they should go with a player that could start for them (maybe a defensive stud like Pierre-Paul, Thomas or McClain if he falls, or an OT) just because it's much harder to find immediate-impact starters at those positions later on than it would be to find Gore a backup/backfield partner in a later round. But Spiller was definitely BPA IMO, and Gore/Spiller would take so much pressure off Alex Smith, so it's pretty tough to criticize that.
The last sentence pretty much sums up why I drafted CJ Spiller. I haven't seen a running back with his type of all-around versatility in a long time. I think Spiller will end up being used a lot like Reggie Bush. With Seattle drafting right after me, I decided to for the explosive playmaker to pair with Gore. I was hoping that Pierre-Paul or Earl Thomas was fall to the Niners' second pick in the first round, but it didn't happen. I still got a great defensive back for them though.
LET THE HATE BEGIN FOR THE VIKINGS PICK I know I will get shredded for the Mays pick but the Vikings will jump on him big time if he slides to 30. Too many reasons. BTW I am cool with the Jets pick. Don't know enough on Sapp though to really comment on his abilities.
That pick is definitely going to draw some questions, but there is an actual reasoning for it. He's a skilled passrusher, but one that actually has a strong work ethic and what appears to be a passion for football. I think that he'd be the perfect kind of player, at prototype size with excellent athleticism to step into that third LB/situational; rusher role from the very start. Plus, no other value was on the board (I was drooling over getting AD here), and I'm not going to take a receiver at this point with our third and fifth picks already invested in a WR, and with both starters only being 27 years old. I'll be back later to defend it some more though, let me have it.
I really like the pick. Best scenario, if we could have traded back a few spots to get another pick and Sapp. No trading in our mock. #29 may not be a good position for the Green & White.
Im a certain WR fan so I probably go with him, but I can't argue with the pick. The Jets are in an awful spot. It might be a little reach, but if we can't trade back we just may have to reach for a player and like you said Sapp is a hard worker and fills a need.
Mays and Hughes back to back. I can see the TGG Seizure inducting stroke setting foot right about now. I am still surprised this OT has fallen this far though, he was the 2nd guy I woulda went if Mays was a Jet.
Here are my draft results from the three round draft we did on this board in January: The Ravens draft is completed. BALTIMORE RAVENS, James Hasty Rd 1 - pick 25) Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma Rd 2) Jared Oldrick, DL, Penn St Rd 3) Kareem Jackson,CB, Alabama All three players were drafted in round one this time: 18) Pittsburgh Steelers - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma 25) Baltimore Ravens - Jared Odrick, 3-4 DE, Penn State 28) San Diego Chargers - Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama Many people thought I should have passed up Trent Williams to reach for a WR. I guess the Ravens will just have to settle with Boldin. Here are some of the comments from other posters about my draft: BakerMaker Yeah but they need WR help big time and there is someone available who could possibly get taken and start day 1 for BAL. 2 guys could be the choice even. Mason could retire again and it would leave BAL in an ugly spot. Mambo9 is... I really really really don't agree with that picks! The Ravens have some needs and some very good players at those positions are still available... why go after an OT with the prospects they already have!? JetFaninMD I think there would be riots in the streets if Ozzie made those picks. If a WR is not selected in the first three rounds Ozzie will be run out of town on a rail. Not to mention selecting players into slots where there is already talent would not go over well in fandom. I like the Bills, Colts, Chiefs, and Broncos in the AFC. I like Washington, and St Louis in the NFC. Oakland's picks look good but will never happen that way. Oakland is impossible to rate. JETSLOOKINGFORDWARE That Williams pick makes me wince a little, but the other two picks are really good. Quack Ravens and Chargers picks could be the steals of the draft. Odrick and ****** in the late second? Really? I said the same thing about *****, because even though there was a more pressing need that had decent value, corner is still a need for the Packers and **********at 2.23 was too good to pass up. DraftaFullback I know I'm not participating in this mock but, these three picks either make no sense or are massive reaches 10) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Taylor Mays, S, USC 12) MIAMI DOLPHINS - ********* 25) BALTIMORE RAVENS - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma JETSLOOKINGFORDWARE Those are pretty bad. Williams at 25 to the Ravens? ******** a top 12 pick? MrElectric I don't understand the Ravens' pick. Jared Gaither and Michael Oher are both very solid, young tackles. -------------------------- Different teams have different BPAs - in the Ravens' case, BPA should be an offensive playmaker. ---------------------------- Sergio Kindle [NOT AVAILABLE IN 7RD] would make more sense. I know the Ravens have Terrell Suggs, one of the league's premiere pass rushers, but look who's on the other side: Jarrett Johnson Johnson is a pretty good role player - he hustles, but the Ravens could definitely use an upgrade at LOLB. The Ravens drafted Paul Kruger last year as a developmental pass rusher, so they might pass on taking a pass rusher as well. I don't know how the Ravens' front office feels about Kruger. -------------------------- Trent Williams is falling like a rock because he was completely exposed this season without Duke Robinson and Phil Loadholt on that line. I don't think he'll be a first rounder, because he's a lot smaller than his listed height/weight and he has short arms. Plus, a lot of GMs KNOW that he can't play left tackle. I was high on the kid before the college season started, but my opinion changed quickly. Also, you don't move an above average-to-elite guard like Ben Grubbs or a quality run blocker like Marshal Yanda to center because an old man retires. You draft or sign a replacement center...and let him develop behind Birk. ----------------------------- The Ravens offensive line is pretty good though, and young. Jared Gaither is 6'9 - so, he wouldn't move to guard. He and Michael Oher will likely switch positions - with Oher protecting...the blind side...Trent Williams lacks a powerful punch, so I don't know if he'd be able to make a move to guard either. Ben Grubbs is one of their starting guards, and he's a former first rounder. Marshal Yanda is their other guard, and he's actually been very good too. Joe Flacco has horrible pocket awareness and takes a lot of sacks - he holds on to the ball WAY too long. I agree it would be a good depth pick if Gaither or Oher went down, but they have more pressing needs. Especially when the Ravens took Oniel Cousins in the third round two years ago as a depth tackle. Williams may have been your BPA, but he definitely wasn't mine - especially for a team like the Ravens, that lacks offensive firepower. I would've gone receiver or tight end - there's plenty of talent at both positions available. The Ravens brought in Jim Zorn to be their QB coach, so I'm pretty sure they're going to focus on drafting/building around Flacco. --------------------------- I'm not saying it's bad idea, I just disagree with it...a lot. That's like having the Jets draft a quarterback in 2010 because he's BPA. Baltimore already went after a tackle prospect in 2009, so they wouldn't have to in the future. Ozzie Newsome is an awesome GM - he's been building that offensive line for years. It's in damn good shape. The Ravens have basically no receiving corps, and it's going to get even worse if Derrick Mason decides to retire...again. Mark Clayton is leaving for free ageny and Todd Heap isn't getting any younger. Joe Flacco needs weapons. ------------------------------- Different teams have different BPAs - in the Ravens' case, BPA should be an offensive playmaker. ****** shoulda been the Ravens' pick. I've read a lot of reports that say Baltimore will take a receiver or two in this draft.
