Looks like he is going to be out of New York, so let's hope he gets 2mill. That way we can get Sharper to mentor a drafted safety oh yeah, and to help out the dbacks.
If he signs for say $2M a year, that gives us the ability to sign a unrestricted FA to a contract starting at $2M in 2010.
aBsolutely, no possible correlation between nerves and exciting your heart to such an intense rate for the first time in 10 years before a playoff game for a NYC team. Superbowl teams don't need a (maybe) nervous, not even close to good punter. Bottom line All the un-PC shit that gets thrown around here... You should get off your high horse, and my scrotum too.
I read the entire conversation. Winslow was tired from having to play TE all game, a completely different position requiring much more stamina than a punter who may take the field three or four times a game. Alluding to Winslow with the picture of two guys holding him up after the game is not the same as heart surgery and has nothing to do with nerves or toughness. If your heart stops, you die, if you get a hamstring pull and walk off, that is different. Your argument makes no sense. So you want to go back to an era when players played with multiple concussions and broken bones, fine, then suit up and play. When you are sixty and on crutches from all the injuries, then you can talk about toughness.
Missed this response. Seems you catch my drift. Fair enough. Abraham is a whole other story, if you had brought him up, it would have made sense.
Two things, having simmed the thread: 1-Kickers win and lose games for you, like Kaeding in the playoffs. Feely is solid and consistent, why fuck with it? Nobody thinks much of the position until it ends your season. 2-If I'm not mistaken, Weatherford was mediaclly barred from playing in the Cincinnati game, it was not his call to sit. And while we're on the subject, good thing we had Feely that day.
Yeah figures we would do as well as we did in this year and we'd end up with these restrictions. How realistic is it to expect the league's INT leader to only ask for 2m$ no matter how old? The good news is we can front load the contracts to those irreplaceables someone mentioned, sorry I'm on my phone. Give them a good chunk of what they deserve now that way if the cap comes back it doesn't kill us and all parties are happy. Especially the fans. Now, nothing would be keeping them from Thomas Jonesin for a backloaded contract after the frontload has been fulfilled
I think that certain bonuses in year 2 don't count towards the cap on pay increases, so the simple thing would be to give him a massive roster bonus (relative to the year 1 value) in year 2 and guarantee it.
Someone else may be able to clarify more, but I believe you can only frontload the contract so much and stagger it down a certain percentage each year. If that percentage is only about 10-20%, then you cannot do as you please this year and put big dollars up front and have it wash out by next year. You can do some of it for sure, but not way over next year's value. But I think it would not be any more than a normal new contract in a cap year.
True, but overall he's been money for two seasons, and that Colts game just highlights how important kickers are. He didn't cost us the game but you can see what happens when you have a bad kicker, we probably aren't even playing in that game.
Fair point. All I kept thinking in my head late in that game as Sanchez was forced to try and make a play was....man, two FGs and they are only down a TD with 2mins to go. It could be a money issue, though that seems off being that he is not that expensive. So I can only guess they are pointing at that game, and that horrid (horrid as in not only special teams) ATL game.
I'd hate to think they are basing it on one game. If you do that and isolate the guy's worst game you'll cut every kicker who ever lived. Feely has made big kicks for us, he's been steady, makes a tackle if he has to and even punted in an emergency in a playoff game. That's got to be worth something, I mean we could probably get Doug Brien back dirt cheap if it's just a money issue.
We knew what we had in Feely and he knew what it was like to kick in the Meadowlands. We are giving up a known for an unknown. This is a risk we do not have to take. If the kid had some rough patches kicking in a dome, what will he be like outside with the wind? Side note is Feely did a good job punting when we really needed him.
The rules only prohibit increases to a certain point (30%). They don't prohibit decreases, largely because a team would have to be foolish to try to frontload a contract that heavily and put themselves entirely at the mercy of the player in every future year.
I'm fairly certain every bonus counts toward the 30% rule aside from a signing bonus, and a signing bonus would likely be prorated if the cap were brought back.
You're absolutely correct. Jay Feely is a top 20 kicker. There's only 32 teams in this league. You know that, right? Top 20 isn't exactly a compliment. The board has been debating this for weeks. Jay Feely had middle of the pack numbers.
i say this again... kickers, really? yeah i liked feely, he was reliable sure. as Mr. E has been mentioning again and again is the potential upside to folk. that said, if someone signs feely we can go after someone in FA worth equal value. now an argument can be made to whom that could be and is it worthwhile, but the reality is it gives us some leverage.
