The Jets, not the Giants, will be hosting a Thanksgiving night game at the stadium the two teams will share, according to Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. The announcement of the Thanksgiving games and the Week One prime-time games will be made Monday, in conjunction with the league meetings in Orlando. For Kickoff Weekend, the Saints will host the opening game on Thursday, September 9. (If it's the Vikings, I'll be in New Orleans, infiltrating the Minnesota broadcast booth with Paul Allen and Pete Bercich. Apparently, my compensation will be a PlayStation 3, so that P.A. and I can thereafter play Madden online and he can taunt me whenever I throw an interception by shouting, "This isn't Detroit!") It's unknown who'll host the Sunday night game or the second half of the ESPN doubleheader on Monday night. Typically, the late Monday game goes to a West Coast team, who hosts another team from a time zone other than Eastern. Typically, the Monday night twin-bill features division rivals. Last year, the Patriots hosted the Bills and the Raiders hosted the Chargers. The prior year, the Packers hosted the Vikings and the Raiders hosted the Broncos. Before that, the Bengals hosted the Ravens and the 49ers hosted the Cardinals. Our guess? It'll be Dolphins-Jets in Week One, ten years after the two teams got together on Monday night for one of the all-time classic prime-time games. The fact that the Jets will be hosting a Thanksgiving night game means that the Patriots will be traveling to Detroit earlier in the day. Because CBS will be televising the game hosted by the Lions, the road team must be from the AFC, and the only AFC teams playing in Ford Field this season will be the Pats and the Jets. For the late-afternoon game, the Cowboys will be hosting one of the NFC teams on their schedule -- the Eagles, Redskins, Giants, Bears, or the Saints. (The Lions are the sixth NFC team who'll play in Cowboys Stadium.) Though Saints-Cowboys is the obvious choice, history tells us that the NFL rarely wastes a great game on the captive audience that comes with Thanksgiving Day. So we're bracing for the Bears. As to the Jets, the Thanksgiving night game could very well entail a return visit from the Bengals, who helped close out Giants Stadium. Other possibilities are the Packers, Vikings, Ravens, Texans, and one of the three AFC East rivals
One of the other two AFC East teams. The Pats will be playing Detroit earlier in the day. I'm glad the schedule will start getting released on Monday. I'd like us to start the season off against the Dolphins on Monday night. We've had some classic prime time games against them

Detroit is not going to be an easy win this year. They are getting better and I can see them winning 7 games in 2010

How about Burt vs Jets on Thanksgiving? That wouldn't be bad for ratings either. Maybe oe of the most watched Thanksgiving games of all time. There are so many other angles... 2 teams that lost in Championship games Obviously Burt LT's two suiters 2 great Ols/Dls
We already have a reputation for having a less-than-spectacular home crowd. Why would you want this? If it were the Steelers, Packers, Eagles, etc hosting, you can be damn sure the place would be a packed. It seems that our fans only want to go when it is 1:00 Sunday game....everything else isn't worth the trouble.
a PSL? Nope, but I'll still be there every game- except that one. It costs me a hell of alot less than it did when I had my season tickets and I wind up w/ better seats most of the time. It's Thanksgiving, they have the 2 traditional afternoon games. There's no need for a night game as well. Night games in cold weather suck #1 and then it's on a major Holiday. We can't play at 4Pm on Yom Kippur but we can play at 8PM on Thanksgiving or Christmas(like we did a few years ago)? It's BS.
see, i disagree. i think this can be a great one since most people have off the next day as it is. this means it will be one of the only night games that you can fully enjoy. as far as the crowd goes, since we are now a better team thats worth going to see, i dont see the place being empty.
17A I am so with ya--------------I hate Monday nite games---but I believe the opener is a 7 pm start--did anyone else hear this? BUT I am so against the Thanksgiving game-UGH!!! I always have the whole family at my house it is tradition----I don't think I would break tradition for the game--family is very important to us
Leave it to the NFL to screw up my Thanksgiving. I don't want this game AT ALL. This is coming from a ticket-holder who'd prefer to have a holiday with his family. If they were on the road, that'd be different, although I don't like the Jets having the short week anyway. I remember the beating put on us by Dallas a couple years back, and what a miserable experience that was with a house full of guests, etc. Consider me a glass half empty-guy where this is concerned. I would much rather be tailgating Sunday than on Thanksgiving - Night no less. That will be a very LONG day for me.
I agree about the next day off and all that but Thanksgiving is a family day for me, an 8:15 start means I'd have to leave in the 5PM hour which is when we have Thanksgiving dinner. it's be fine if it was Wedns night or Friday night but not on Thanksgiving.
This years crowd has been better than 2008/2007 atleast. Thought it was pretty rocking. Went to only 4 games though.
