http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-Gerhart-to-work-out-for-Broncos-Jets.html Stanford running back Toby Gerhart has been scheduled for private workouts with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets, according to a league source. Gerhart is set to work out for the Broncos on March 24 and the Jets on March 30. Winning the Doak Walker award as the nation's top running back last season, Gerhart rushed for 1,871 yards and 27 touchdowns. Gerhart ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds at the NFL scouting combine and also registered a 38-inch vertical leap. The Heisman Trophy finalist also scored the highest Wonderlic score among the running backs with a 30 and bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times. "I’ve been compared with the other ‘white guys’ that have played my position," Gerhart said at the NFL scouting combine. "I get compared to (John) Riggers, (Mike) Alstott and stuff like that. But I’m color blind. I’m a running back. I compare my running styles to the likes of Eddie George or Corey Dillon, those type of guys.” Gerhart has been mentioned as a fullback candidate, but he envisions himself playing running back in the NFL. “I see myself as a running back at the next level," Gerhart said ."If (fullback) is asked of me I’ll do it. The team’s above all else. But I firmly believe that I have the skill set to play running back at the next
No doubt.....Woodhead would take a back seat, but he'll probably be cut. Gerhart reminds me of Eddie George. (Cough..a white Eddie George). If we draft Jordan Shipley he would be the runner-up.
http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl/1988_577727/woods-doesn-t-fit-the-image-of-cincinnati.html Cut from this article on the Bengals' Ickey Woods from 1988: "Woods adds a punishing dimension to a Bengals offense that tends to overdose on finesse. He is a black John Riggins."
Before anyone looks it up, a Vikings fan on a blog back in 2007 said Chester Taylor was a black Mike Alstott, only "not as strong". Which is like saying Trenton Hassell is a black "Thunder" Dan Majerle, without any shooting ability.
No, he'll be the reason why Leon Washington isn't re-signed. People are forgetting that this will probably be Washington's last year with the Jets.
NFL | McCourty works out for Re. Ryan, Ro. Ryan Tue, 16 Mar 2010 19:30:10 -0700 Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports Rutgers CB Devin McCourty met with New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan and Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan Tuesday, March 16, according to a league source. The two coaches put McCourty through some drills and held a film session with him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jets | Laury to visit Thursday Tue, 16 Mar 2010 19:59:30 -0700 Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports free-agent LB Lance Laury (Seahawks) is scheduled to visit the New York Jets Thursday, March 18, according to his agent, David Canter.
I see. I'm actually hoping we sign Laury. The Jets would have a Gamecock on the roster and a special teams LB.
Laury is one of the NFL's best special team players.....Westhoff is probably lobbying real hard. Laury would never be a starter. Let's see how much coin he wants...could be pricey for just a special team ace. Too bad Emmanuel Cook didn't make it.
Ehh, Cook's a headcase. ...it just amazes me that he wasted all of his talent. I agree that he'd strictly be a special teamer, but he'd be a damn good one. James Ihedigbo, Brad Smith, and Marquis Cole need a thumper like Laury out there with them. I think he'll get a similar contract to the one Rodrique Wright signed recently.
