I give a f***. Our team's been sleeping on someones couch the past 26 years, all the while being reminded of it, and taunted for it. For the Giants to get the first game, without any kind of compromise, would be f***ing BS, and only further inflame the topic of who's "house" it is. I think the outcome was fair, and gives no team any real bragging rights. Considering we paid for half, not 1/4, not 49%, and not in IOUs, we deserve equality, and Woody did a hell of a job demanding it. I commend him on considering fans like myself. Maybe you don't understand because your got to play it first...
I think the best corporate sponsor name that doesn't favor the Jets or Giants and is "fair" would of been "JetBlue Stadium". Best part is Jet goes first. God damn it Tanny anything that comes to your mind you always get whatever you want, call up JetBlue and get it done!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with Woody on this one the coin toss had to be transparent. I think Goodall felt it was best for the league that the statium be considered more of a "Giants stadium" not a split stadium so he took a double headed coin out and fixed it. He should have been smarter and had a fair toss with all parties present! They do that for draft picks why not this?
Are you saying that somehow a name like Sony Field would favor the Giants? I think there are hundreds of potential sponsors that would be perfectly neutral, albeit lame sounding.
Do you really believe the Giants got the better end of this deal? Not only do we get the first NFL game (call it preseason, whatever, I don't give a f***), but we also get the first MNF, nationally televised game there. And they get...Sunday, at 1:00pm/4:00pm? What's funny, is they'll try and hype it up, but no one will give a s***. It's like trying to throw a huge party Thursday night. Everyone will be holding out for Friday.
Also, knowing Woody, he'll likely have something in store for both the Preseason opener and the MNF one just to upstage the hell out of the Giants.
When it comes down to it, all that will matter in the end is who is closing the stadium out. If we could host a AFC championship game our first year, case closed.
No i think you missed my point. The reason why I think JetBlue Stadium would be the best is because Jets for Jets and Blue for Giants who share a stadium. In terms of fair yes any corporate name is fair because it has nothing to do with either team but I think JetBlue would be the best for obvious reasons. A name like Giants Stadium is a unfair name. I wrote "fair" sarcastically because we played 26 years in a stadium named after the Giants. Now are we on the same page lol
JetBlue is already as Jet sponsor, I'm sure you know that but I remember when that was announced an article was written stating that JetBlue would not have the funds to acquire the naming rights. It would be perfect, but they had just enough money for a few signs not an entire Stadium.
I agree the NFL messed this up, even if it wasn't shady or meant to be shady. It was mentioned in the Post today that they should have brought in LT (the original) and Joe Willie for a coin flip. If I were the NFL I'd have gone a step further--get yourself on the news in your biggest city for a day. Take a nice spring day and walk out to the 50 yard line--the field is there--put Joe and LT in jerseys and make a little show out of it. Where is the marketing creativity?
shit....well I guess Tanny is gonna have to work OT and get a fundraiser for them. Where the fuck is Bruce Wayne lol
Actually I do, They will forever state that they played the first regular season game in the stadium. We got a carrot with the Monday night game but that will not last as long as every giant fan stating it's their stadium because they played the first real game there!
I don't think that matters too much. We played the first playoff game at Giants Stadium, does anyone remember that? No, they remember the slew of playoff games the Giants had after that. The first NFL action there will be our pre-season game, probably against the Giants, and by luck of the draw it's our home game. It will be at night and lit up green, so even though the game doesn't count that will be everyone's first look at the place. In Week 1 the rest of the country will be watching their own teams and fantasy teams on the Sunday, MNF will be the first time most people see it and it will again be lit up green. A lot of people won't even realize it's a new stadium until then, does anyone here actually remember when they knocked down Mile High and opened the place next to it? It doesn't matter much and won't be remembered by anyone but us.
And we can say we played the first NFL game and/or MNF game there. That's the beauty of the solution - no team gets any significant bragging rights over the other. And if we actually lost a coin flip, then I have no issues with the outcome. The fact is, as fair as it would be, both teams can't play the same day, same time, in the same stadium. So somebody had to be bumped, and a coin flip is really the fairest way to go about deciding.
I guess I agree! In the long run it will be all but forgotten. It's the not knowing if the coin flip was fixed that has me vexed!
That's why they should have brought Joe and LT to midfield in their jerseys and had a made-for-TV coin toss.
