We already know we have the best ranked defense in the NFL but I think they would be even better with a more efficient offense to keep them off the field and maybe even put up some more points by opening it up a bit. How well or poorly will they perform this year I think will determine our fate in 2010. It starts with Mark Sanchez. He started off on fire last year through the first 3 games but then continued to get worse as the season wore on due to lack of experience, defenses having NFL film on him, and possibly loss of confidence. He went on a terrible stretch mid season constantly repeating the same mistakes and misreads, struggling to learn to be more a game manager rather then trying to win games on his own, and just going through the rough times of being an NFL rookie QB. Then came the playoffs and more specifically the AFCC game. In the biggest game of his life and very short career, he exceeded mine and probably everyone elses expectations and played great. To me that was the biggest sign that this kid is going to be a winner one day and a top 10 QB in the NFL. I'm excited about his progress in the playoffs and his amazing work ethic. A lot of QBs have the tools to be good NFL QBs but the #1 reason why they usually fail is poor work ethic and this kid is as hard a worker as it gets. He also comes from a good family and he loves football so I believe he won't allow himself to be distracted like others in the past. Hopefully the rare playoff experience he successfully got as rookie will be something to build on this year. I don't think we will make anymore drastic additions(Marshall?) or subtractions(TJ) on offense. With the upcoming draft we might add a Golden Tate if not I would expect nothing but minor tweaks and depth. I think the biggest improvements we will see is more internally with the progressive growth from Sanchez, Greene, DBrick, Keller and to a lesser extent Mangold. This is also a make or break season for Braylon Edwards, who's a hard worker and obviously wants to get paid. I don't think he has character issues like a BM or TO. I also don't think he is going to duplicate his 2007 season when he scored 16 TDs, but I expect a dramatic improvement in his play where he solidifies himself as a true #1 WR again. Leon Washington is a big question mark going forward. As much as I love him and appreciate everything he has done for the NYJ, he is not part of our future. If he is signed I will gladly accept a 2nd rd pick as compensation. If he stays because of the acquisition of LT, his role will obviously be limited unless we have an unfortunate injury to Greene or LT. Hopefully we receive a 2nd rd pick if not, he should be an excellent return man and get a couple of touches on offense. Last year we ranked 20th in passing offense (321 ypg), #1 in rushing offense (172.8 ypg), and 17th in scoring offense (21.8 ppg). What is our offenses expectations for the 2010 season? Do we improve in some and worsen in others or as a whole will we get better or worse? Out of all the statistical categories I would like to see the biggest improvement in converting more 3rd downs. Last year we converted 37% of them for a ranking of 20th in the NFL. We need to keep that defense fresh for better overall team success.
I'm not expecting a lights-out type of offense. I am expecting an offense that does not turn the ball over and I would like to see Sanchez have more TD's than INT's or at least be .500 in that stat. I see Sanchito having a mediocre year. 15/12 TD/INT.
I think somewhere between 11-20. There got good receiving threats and should have a good running game that will only get better if LW can contribute. They have a great O-Line and Sanchez should only get better.
I expect those numbers to be higher, but not a ton higher. somewhere in the 11-20 range should be spot on. Hopefully on the higher side of that range. The bigger issue is turnovers. Are we handing the otehr team the ball in very good feild position, or kicking it and laughing as they try to make plays against our defense. The biggest thing that can possibly happen to us this year is for Mark and Shonn to take care of the ball a hell of a lot better than they did last season,.
#1 offense overall, LT is gonna have 2100 yards, 32 touchdowns, Shonn Greene is gonna add 1100 more and 11 more TD's and Leon is gonna average 8 ypc. Seriously tho, I'll go with the consensus 11-20. We'll show flashes of being a top offense in the league but overall we'll be very efficient, play keep away and keep our #1 defense on the sidelines
I still think we'll be the top rushing team in the NFL, and our passing yards are going to get much better as well with a healthy Leon and LT. If we can get a good slot receiver in the draft, then we'll be a top 10 for sure.
Yea I agree guys. I don't expect a Saints type of offense neither, but a better more efficient offense is my expectations. Unless we draft a Golden Tate type slot WR, I don't see the draft having too much of an immediate impact on offense because anyone we draft will not be able to crack the starting line ups and will probably be drafted currently for depth and more so for the future. We are pretty much set across the board. Obviously Sanchez at QB, Greene and LT will be the top 2 RBs, Edwards and JCo will be the WRs, Keller will be our TE and our whole offensive line is set in stone. Probably Hartstock also because we just resigned him and we need his run blocking.
If all goes well with the draft and upcoming season, I chose top 10 as a stretch. Realistically, I'd put is 12-15 in offense.
I think its all going to come down to 3rd and longs and how healthy Greene remains. If Greene healthy and we do well on 3rd and long (slot reciever plx ?) our offense should be up there. If Greene gets hurt and our slot receiver is a bust/doesnt get drafted/ fail on 3rd and longs our offense could take steps backwards
Shaun John, I would just like to compliment you on your thread. Excellent choices................ My guess this year is somewhere in the middle of the pack. I like beer.... but Ice cold? Oh yeah........
the offense has talent to spare and the success of the unit as whole comes down to how much sanchez can do next year. everyone else is a fairly well known commodity sanchez is the only wild card, he also happens to be the most important part of the offense.
Thanks I figure its something fresh. Everyone has different preferences and opinions but at the end of the day, everyone agrees on ice cold beer haha  :drunk:
I expect the Jet's offense to make a big move up the chart. Whether they crack the top 10 or not I don't know but they'll move up a bunch. The Jet's offense last year was better than in 3 of the 4 years that Vinny was the starter. It was as good or better than in all but 1 of the years Chad was the starter. That was with Sanchez making rookie mistakes and Schotty in a state of utter confusion for most of the middle of the schedule.
What we do in the draft is important. With the help of our defense though, our offense should have the ball a lot (in good field position too).
