Broncos picked up that Brady Quinn character. We should of tried to trade Kellen Clemons for some late picks lol.
after they made this move i was pretty convinced that this will not happen. i also dont think it should happen. i feel like marshall, although and immense talent, just brings too much negative baggage to the table, as well as having to convince braylon to be a 2nd option, and bump cotchery down a peg to 3rd undeservedly, makes this a bad move.
I can think of plenty of teams where j-co would be a #3 wideout. You guys are way too in love with him.
Can you? I can name more teams where he is the #1 receiver Unquestioned Cleveland Miami Buffalo St. Louis Oakland Denver (Once Marshall is shipped out) Chicago Tampa Bay Arguably Kansas City San Francisco Baltimore Seattle Pittsburgh possibly a few more. Teams Cotch wouldnt be at least the #2 Arizona (pre trade of Boldin) New England (if Welker returns to health) Can't even think of another one... Notice that Welker will not be playing next year, he has a mangled knee and a torn Rotator cuff. Also Boldin isn't in Zona anymore. So in short I can't think of a team in the NFL today that Cotch couldnt be at least the #2 receiver. And a lot of teams would love to have him as their top WR.
If Cotch were bigger he'd be the talk of the town. Even having a average Cotch is fine with me, it's the way Schotty uses his Cotch not necessarily the size. He's as reliable as they come and also another fan favorite. Shows up, plays and practices hard and you never hear even a whisper of complaint. You know Giant fans would love to trade for a Big Cotch.
if cotchery had the personality of kerry rhodes, he would be talked about a ton. thankfully he's not like carrie. it hurts his publicity and he's underrated because he's not a diva but I like it better that way. the fans perception of our own player is more important then the media. we truly know how good jco is.
I love cotch, but your proving a different point as well with this info. If He is your #1 option at wideout, chances are you team really sucks. Of the teams you listed only Baltimore made the playoffs last season. Cotch is a very good second option and has the skills to be a fantastic slot guy. We are lucky to have him and lucky he does not have to carry our offense.
Teams where J-Co would be a #3: Colts Patriots Steelers Chargers Arizona (pre and post boldin being moved, breaston is better than j-co) Cowboys Vikings Eagles Giants Packers Saints Lions (current roster) I could probably find more. Just in case you guys missed it: J-Co 2009 - 821 yards, 3 TD's That makes him 28th in the league in yardage last season. He's played six seasons, he's only broken 1000 yards once, in a season where justin fukin mccarins was on our team. The most TD's he's had in a season was 6 in 2006. I like J-Co, but he could easily be a #3 WR. He's certainly not a #1. Sure, there are teams that have shit WR cores where Cotchery _might_ be a #1, but that isn't saying much. If you have to talk about him compared to the bears WR's then you shouldn't even make an argument. I can't believe you said j-co would be a 1 on the Steelers though. EDIT: For you guys who are talking about j-co being #1 in Baltimore, here were Derrick Mason's stats last year: 1,028 yards 7 TDs. Cotch would be a #2 there.
One point I would make is that although Cotchery did not have massive yardage, a lot of that has to do with the fact that we were next to last in the league in passing this year (thanks Cleveland!) due to having a rookie QB and a massive running game. Cotchery was a victim of our weak passing game, not the other way around. Cotchery was actually even worse in the league than you stated (he was 35th in yardage in the NFL), however he accounted for a larger percentage of his team's passing yards that Mason. He was also targeted much less and had 16 less catches for the year than Mason. The things I like most about Cotchery are that he catches the ball reliably particularly when it counts and he runs routes well. He's not a prototypical #1 WR, but he's an excellent WR. I think he'd be missed if we didn't keep him.
In 2008 J-Co had Favre throwing to him. His stats were: 858 yards 5 TDs. J-Co seems to be good for about 800-900 yards every season and a few TD's. I'm not trying to kill the guy, I like J-Co as a person better than either Edwards or Marshall....but if we can bring Marshall in on the cheap, moving J-Co to #3 (or trading him away) wouldn't be that big of a deal. Just to contrast this, in the past three years Brandon Marshall has never been under 1000 yards receiving, and last year he scored 10 TDs.
I agree he would be a #1 WR on the Browns, Dolphins, Rams, Raiders, Bears, Bucs and Broncos if BM leaves. It is also not a coincidence that those teams have some of the worst WR corps in the NFL. Overall I think your overrating Cotchery some and underrating others. Bills- Lee Evans has more then double the TDs then Cotchery. Yards don't win games TDs do. Cotchery for his career avgs slightly more then 2 a year and 4 a year as a starter which is below average for a #2 and absolutely terrible for a true #1. Evans has a terrible QB/Oline situation since he runs longer routes he needs the oline to buy time for the QB and the QB to have a strong arm along with accurate throws. I think they are on the same level. Both are #2s but with completely polar opposite skill sets. They both do things the other will NEVER be able to do. Chiefs- Dwayne Bowe is basically a super Cotchery or a poor mans Boldin. Either way he's noticeably better. Remember 2 years ago he was the only WR that year to man handle Revis. He's a good WR in a bad situation that game alone says a lot about his ability. I don't think Cotchery could of gave it to Revis like that 2 years ago. Seahawks - TJ whos your momma is similar to the Bowe/Cotchery comparison though the gap isn't as wide. I don't think TJ is clearly better then Cotchery but I think TJ gets the benefit of the doubt since he has been a monster in the past along with a terrible offense. 49ers- Crabtree is going to be a monster. He had 48 recs 625 yds 2 TDs WITHOUT a training camp or any chemistry with a TERRIBLE QB. He is going to be an elite WR someday soon. Steelers - I don't know if Santonio Holmes is a true #1 WR and I don't think he is but I DO KNOW Cotchery isn't. He also is coming off a 1,300 yard season. Ravens - Boldin>>>>>>>>>>>Cotchery and its not even close. Read a page or 2 back as to why.
Check the stats. JCo = Boldin. Without the benefit of playing across from Larry. 1024, 4 Td's...So is Anquan Boldin. By your logic that makes them equal.
Not only that but BM has 100 catches in 3 straight years and I believe is only the 2nd WR to ever do that.
I'm not sure what you're assuming my logic is here, other than looking at the numbers and considering the facts rather than just being a homer. Boldin has broken 1000 yards in 5 different seasons while J-Co did it once (and barely). Boldin's best season was 1400 yards. in 2008 he had 11TDs. J-Co never touched any of those numbers.
