Two questions. 1. Is this definitely resolved before the draft? That is, can he be signed by another team after the draft resulting in the draft compensation coming in 2011? 2. If there is not a new CBA, wouldn't he be a restricted FA again next year (as his 6th year)?
To those saying Leon is the second best player on the team, come on people, seriously wake up. Tops is Revis. After him, in no specific order would be: Kris Jenkins Nick Mangold David Harris Braylon Edwards Jerricho Cotchery D'Brickashaw Ferguson Shonn Greene Mark Sanchez After that list, you can start using the name Leon Washington in the list of "next best" players on the team. People mistake "flashy" for "great." Leon is a nice CoP option in the rushing attack, and a potentially dangerous return man. Running back has become a revolving door around the entire NFL and Brad Smith is a pretty good return man. Leon is expendable. Especially for second round pick in one of the deepest drafts ever. Take the green colored glasses off people and see what's best for the team. Would you rather have Leon for 10 carries a game, or have the ability to draft a great safety after drafting a first round pass-rushing specialist?
Shonn Greene has not proved enough for me yet. He needs to get his fumbles in check, Leon is proven and is an amazing special teams talent. Having LT now might be what is needed for Leon to take the punts again, not just the kickoffs.
Leon is a one year rental at this point if he keeps his douchebag agent. I'd rather get a second rounder for at least four years. No knock on Leon, but if he stays for '10 I doubt he'll be here in '11, and that's the big worry for me, losing him and getting nothing in return. If we get someone to take him for a second rounder, run, don't walk, to take the offer.
I say if we do lose LW and get that pick, we use it and whatever else we can to move up in the draft and get the best RB we can get our hands on. We all know that teams are now built with 2 RB's in mind, both being starters. We need to give Sanchez more weapons on offense. Coming into next season everyone was saying our biggest offensive need was a slot WR. I'm thinking we have a rookie RB that was banged up and missed time because of injury, and who didn't even play a full season, coming back as our starter. We've got another RB coming off a season ending injury and surrounded by uncertainty, and finally a veteran RB who's best days are WAY behind him and will probably only be around for 2 years. IMO we need a RB desperatly.
I also broke my tibia and fibia and have NEVER BEEN THE SAME. I was 21 when it happened and it still hurts (33 years later). With todays advances in medicine he's gotten better treatment but the bottom line is: You never know til you try..... :shit:
so you want to use multiple picks to move up to get what would be a 3rd string rb and ignore the group of 30something dlinemen?
Yeagh, Leon is in no way the 2nd best player on the team. He's the best on the team (league?) at what he does though, which is returning kicks. Who knows if he's going to be as good of a returner now with his injury. If Leon can get back to 100% I think he can be an invaluable 3rd down back again. LT provides insurance for Leon or at least gives Leon some time to get back on his feet.
they made their run last year without him. and he was doing nothing up to the time of the injury. there could be many reasons for that that the jets are privy to but we are not.
I too broke my tib and fib, in addition to shattering the growth plate in my ankle in a high school baseball game 5 years ago, but i recovered fine and i feel like my leg is just as strong as it was, also leon is a pro athlete and in much better shape then we are, comparing an injury for you and i to leon is pointless, remember these guys are freaks....
Exactly these people are physical freaks our injuries and their injuries are night and day. I will agree with that you dont know until you try but im very optimistic that Leon will be fine.
I think all the twisting and turning in Leon's style puts more strain on that leg than hits do. I wonder if he will keep his acceleration.
Isn't Slausen(?) an O-lineman? If i'm correct in this i think we can still pick up a quality lineman in a later round. Right now our O-line is solid but the RB position is thin and full of uncertainty. 1-Can SG stay healthy a full season? With his bruising style he could get banged up a lot 2-What type of player will LW be? Will he still have that quickness and burst? 3-Does LT have anything left? Based on last season i'm not so sure.
This thread is right on the mark. Soon as I heard the Jets recently say that Leon will be 100% by camp and how great he's doing, that's the opening for a team to sign him to an offer sheet(contract). Jets have done this before. Soon as they compliment a guy, it's a way of getting an offer.
Leon had a broken leg. They mend as strong as they were before if the re-hab is right and Leon has had plenty of time. Did you ever hear of an athlete breaking the same leg in the same place. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If it was a knee recontruction that is an entirely different issue. So ask yourself if Leon returns the way he was 12 months ago, which is fairly likely, would you keep him?
I have a question: If LW was a -let's say- packers player... would you be willing to give a 2nd round pick to get him?
he got the fumbling in check just in time for the home stretch of the regular season and the playoffs. he never had a fumbling problem in college so there shouldn't be much of a worry there. he also never had any injury problems in college so hopefully last year was an aberration in that sense as well.
The only one I can think of is Kenyon Martin. He broke his right fibula twice in 2 consecutive years, but in different locations.
