How many games did TJ have 15 carries for 17 yards then bust a long run, bloating his average, that's the reason Shonne Greene started carrying more of the load, TJ wasn't breaking any tackles, LT can break a swing pass 80 yards...LT smells the goal line also...
If that is the case why are we paying LT more than Jones? Jones offered us the same deal he signed in KC remember. I'm not taking the bait.
I am not looking to downplay Jones, I appreciate what he did for the team. but I will agree that when Shonn was in there, it just seemed he was more consistent with the 4-7 yard gains.
15 carries for 17 yards is an exaggeration, but I get your point. TJ is a grinder and helped wear down defenses. I hate when people disregard his long gains, because without his help in wearing the defense down those long gains don't come. That said, with the role he would have this year getting 7-10 carries a game, I'm not sure he'd be very effective. LT's skillset/running style is probably a much better fit for the role they want behind Greene.
Which also got me thinking last night, LT got starter money... ...which leads me to believe this "limited" role everyone assumes he will hold is wrong. LT will probably more integral in the offense than people think. I think Leon Washington moves to #3 on the depth chart and will be used in the "limited" capacity everyone thinks LT will be used.
I think I remember reading somewhere 2 million was guaranteed for the first year...don't hold me to it.
Tha's alot to you and me and everyone on here but nothing by NFL standards especially w/ this year being uncapped.
I was thinking Thomas Jones was going to start for KC, and he may, but I'm hearing Jamal Charles will probably start. So that "starter money" comment was made with above in mind. However, I still feel LT will serve a greater role than Leon Washington.
this was quoted earlier, but I pulled it from ESPN... if there are incentives which raise the contract to 5.6, is the 5.1 guaranteed? I'm probably wrong, I'm sure the explicit details will be released soon. I know the breakdown was like 2+ for year 1.
I'm not sure, we have to wait for the final details to come out but either way that's not alot and i would expect we'd probably cut him after this year if he doesn't have a good year.
I don't get it but I hope it works out Now the Jets have two backs that essentially bring the same thing to the table in LT and LW. The problem is LT's best days are clearly behind him, and LW is coming off of a severe leg injury, so the Jets have no idea what they are getting when he returns. I guess if I had to have two similar backs, I would want two grinders like TJ and Greene. By the 4th quarter the D-line would be worn out. I am not a GM, but if I had to pay an older RB money, I would have Kept TJ. Especially considering how valuable he was to the Jets last season.
i think that's the most effective threat you've dropped on this board...during my tenure here.
TJ's Yards Per Carry in his last 6 games as a Jet- ATL 2.7 @IND 4.6 * CIN 2.9 @Cin 2.3 @SD 2.9 @IND 2.6 *- Against backups in the second half.
it's tough to gain yards when you hit the turf on first contact. Plus...TJ was ridden into the ground with all the carries he received over the last few seasons....
I put up numbers about LT's average, and many responses were wait to see what he does behind our line, the same line TJ was behind. LT has had 600 more carries then TJ, his NFL legs are not as fresh as TJ's. Obviously LT was the better back but I suppose will see who the better back is "now".
