Because someone tried saying LT's drop in receptions is a sign of his decline......and I pointed out that a more likely answer is because Sproles has taken over the pass blocking/catching responsibilities. Probably because he didn't become a free agent this year (from his contract running out).....he was released

thank you turk and cakes... sproles is surprisingly a good pass protector. some guys just want to make waves and tell everyone how much they know. i will admit i didnt read the 64 pages of this thread but i really dont know if i understand what was accomplished in getting rid of jones and signing tomlinson. i dont see a tremendous upside to tomlinson over jones and it didnt save a ton of money. in fact i could argue that right now there is a huge upside to having jones over tomlinson. prea you seem to know him pretty well how do you account for his drop in production? the guy was lights out until the middle of 2 years ago and seems to have fallen off dramatically. any insight that you have, injuries or is it really just age and overuse?
mostly goal line carries but you can see that he has great vision on many of those runs. he is gonna enjoy running behind our line.
I like the signing but am not getting lured into that jersey. THere is a defunct no. 4 hanging around somewhere in my house the last time I got excited over a free agent signing of a future hall of famer.
Jones may not have been willing to restructure his contract or take on a reduced role to stay with the Jets IMO, it was a combination of LT's age/decline, along with crappy playcalling and bad run blocking (and numerous o-line injuries). He often got hit in the backfield last year. We also used the same predictable schemes. Either no movement on the line, or we brought the LG across.....and that was about it. If you give him a hole he still has pretty good straight ahead speed (although not enough to break a huge run). However he lacks the jump cut that made him so great, and really doesn't have any change of direction. He often rushed himself too, rather than waiting for a hole to develop. And he tripped over his feet a number of times. Injuries have definitely been the main factor, imo. 2007 playoffs - injured knee 2008 week 1 - injured toe (and played the entire season on it. Didn't really look back to 100% until week 17....where he got injured again) 2008 week 17 - torn groin 2009 week 1 - injured ankle He just hasn't been the same since that 2007 injury.
I may have this wrong, but wasn't Jones due somewhere around $5 million this year (with the bonus) and Tomlinson is getting roughly that over 2 years?
Its was close to 6 mill this year alone with the roster bonus for Jones. So it is a savings of cash over keeping Jones this season.
