We sign LT elimating the talk of drafting a RB in the 1st or 2nd rounds. We no longer need a safety. Pool is sufficient. "If" he gets injured Eric Smith showed he is capable of being the starting Saftey when called upon. 1st: Jerry Hughes OLB: You cant be scared to pick another OLB because you think he will be a bust just like Gholston. The front offices knows this and so does Rex. If Rex likes what he sees in Hughes, if he reminds him of suggs just even the slightest Hughes will be our 1st round pick. You have to be willing to take chances in the draft and the bright side if Hughes doesnt pan out he isnt even a top 25 pick. at 29 its pretty much a 2nd round pick. 2nd: Alex Carrington DE: We need some Dline depth. DeVito and Pouha proved themselfs this year and we have quality rotational guys in them but Ellis isnt getting any younger and Carrington can get pressure on the QB and can play any spot on the Dline. Very athletic and decent speed for his size. 4th: Freddie Barnes WR: slot receiver is a need on this football team but there will be several decent prospects for slot receiver that will fall to our 4th round pick. Barnes would be perfect in the slot. He runs decent routes, has great hands and can pick up yac. He lacks elite speed and didnt play against top competition and didnt get invited to the combine, which is why he will fall out of day 1.
I think its the Boom factor that is going to attract Rex. Rex isnt much of a play it safe guy thats why its all or nothing. We havent really taken any safe picks in the draft for a while in the 1st round.
I don't like Jerry Hughes for the Jets. Everyone here should know that already. I really like the other two picks though. I can see the Jets pass rush improving greatly with the addition of a very solid #2 corner.
Im not the biggest Hughes supporter but if we drafted him i wouldnt be pissed. Obviously they know something we dont. Why dont you like Hughes? i know you got an anti-hughes thread. But just sum it up. Is it cause he is a non factor in the stopping the run and his pass rush moves are limited just uses his speed and quick first step. Too much like Gholston?
Mangold for sure but a lot of people didnt want Brick and ppl were screaming bust his rookie year. So are olinemen always safe picks?
I dont know drafting a #2 (more likely number 3) corner would greatly improve our pass rush, maybe cover the deficiencies of our pass rush by having better coverage
Well, Jerry Hughes doesn't have much in common with Vernon Gholston other having to make a position switch in the pros. I think Hughes can be a very effective situational pass rusher in the 4-3. That's where he belongs. He's very fast off the line. He'll have trouble taking on NFL sized linemen. You're definitely right about him being strictly a speed rusher with limited moves and about him being weak against the run. I think it will be very hard for him to cover in the NFL. Before one of the Hughes' supporters brings this up: spare me the remarks about his excellent combine workouts in drills. He's not covering anyone in those drills, is he?
Bringing in a guy like McCourty or Wilson would definitely be a smart move. I just have a feeling that both will be gone before 29. Our pass rush should improve now that Cromartie's on the team. I'd like to see the Jets go for help on either of our lines before drafting a pass rusher. There's too much value at 3-4 OLB to go after a guy that's not top tier in the first round. Jason Pierre-Paul, Sergio Kindle and Brandon Graham are the only pass rushers I'd consider in the first. They should be gone.
I just did a first round mock somewhere else. Before this one I thought that Graham, and Pierre Paul would be off the board. Meaning I could see Wilson and McCourtney available. Here is what I could see happening for us to get Graham Packers: With Al Harris torn ACL, they look for another corner...Kyle Wilson Cardinals: Need a Left Tackle...Charles Brown Chargers: Need a new nose tackle...Dan Williams Jets: Need pass rusher...Brandon Graham Vikings: Cedric Griffen ACL injury...Devin McCourtney That's for Graham, you could actually switch the Cardinals and Packers pick I see your point about fixing the lines (praticularly the D line) first I think that if Graham is off the board and your looking at say Odrick or a corner I would go with Odrick, but if its Graham or another player Id say Graham
Me too. I'm not worried about Green Bay taking a pass rusher - Clay Matthews is an absolute beast. They also drafted Brad Jones in the 7th round last year and he looks like a diamond in the rough. Who do you have New England taking with their first rounder? I think Graham's a definite possiblity for the Gaytriots.
I have them taking Jared Odrick, I forgot to mention their pick. I know they have Brace and Warren, but I cant think of anyone who would play that other end spot, also Odrick does have some scheme versatility. However, I spoke with a friend who is a knowledgeable Packers fan and he said he was concerned about the pass rush, because he says Matthews is the only quality pass rusher. So I think a pass rusher is a third option. Before they resigned Chad Clifton I was going to say the pick was going to be Charles Brown, in which case it made more sense for the Cardinals to take a pass rusher. But whoever that new QB in Arizona is going to be needs some pass protection
I like the 2nd and 4th round picks, but a little FYI for when you said Freddie Barnes fell out of Day One. I think you may be a bit confused about the new draft schedule.
Day 1 is 1st and 2nd rounds correct? If Barnes ran a 4.4 or better aka elite speed and was invited to the combine i feel he would be drafted in the 2nd round (day 1) but since he doesnt have elite speed and didnt get invited to the combine he will be drafted in day 2 (3 round or later.)
the new gay "draft weekend" is now round 1 thursday, round 2&3 friday and rounds 4-7 on saturday. way to sell out for more ad revenue. Goodell loves making himself easy to dislike.
