One thing that will stick out is that Taylor Mays is no longer in my first round. With so much depth in this draft, especially on defense, I just can’t see anyone taking a chance on him in the first round. There is no question that he is a great athlete, but I have him falling in this mock to Kansas City at #36. 1 St. Louis Sam Bradford Oklahoma QB Most of us are pretty much convinced that Bradford is the number one pick. It was nice to see that Kiper and McShay finally jumped on board. The writing is all over the wall on this. 2 Detroit Ndamukong Suh Nebraska DT43 3 Tampa Bay Gerald McCoy Oklahoma DT43 4 Washington Jimmy Clausen Notre Dame QB 5 Kansas City Russell Okung Oklahoma State OT 6 Seattle Bryan Bulaga Iowa OT 7 Cleveland Eric Berry Tennessee FS 8 Oakland Bruce Campbell Maryland OT I have completely bought into is the value of Bruce Campbell and to be honest, I actually think the Raiders won’t reach this year if the take him at #8. Campbell can play LT or RT while Trent Williams and Anthony Davis are probably NFL RT’s. And with Anthony Davis not working out at his Pro Day and all of the iffy things surrounding him, I have dropped him to a late first round pick. So I have changed my OT rankings to : 1. Russell Okung 2. Bryan Bulaga 3. Bruce Campbell 4. Trent Williams 5. Anthony Davis 6. Charles Brown 9 Buffalo Dan Williams Tennessee DT34 The 3-4 starts at nose tackle. Without a really good one then the defense will not work. The Bills land themselves an outstanding nose tackle at #9. 10 Jacksonville Joe Haden Florida CB Haden didn’t run a great 40, but he is still the best corner in this draft. Jacksonville gets a great pick here at #10. 11 Denver Dez Bryant Oklahoma State WR Will Brandon Marshall be back? Will he sign elsewhere? Who know? But the Broncos have to be tired of Marshalls drama either way. 12 Miami Earl Thomas Texas FS Parcells finishes what he started last year in the Dolphins secondary. Good luck passing on them in a few years. 13 San Francisco C.J. Spiller Clemson RB This isn’t just a best pick available pick and it’s not a need either. This is just a way to open the playbook up and after watching Chris Johnson the last few years, San Francisco shoots and scores. 14 Seattle Derrick Morgan Georgia Tech DE43 15 NY Giants Rolando McClain Alabama ILB Rolando McClain has dropped because of his workouts. I did not drop him because of the latest news of being diagnosed with Crohn's. After thinking it through, this guy has been playing with this for a long time and look how many heads he turned along the way. I think what happened to us all is that we were in awe of his ability and slightly overrated him. 16 Tennessee Jason Pierre-Paul South Florida DE43 17 San Francisco Trent Williams Oklahoma OT The knock on him is that he is not a LT, but he could start at RT on day one. And just as luck would have it, that is exactly what the 49ers need. 18 Pittsburgh Terrence Cody Alabama DT34 I am not buying Terrence Cody falling anymore. I don’t think he ever did drop on most teams boards. This is a heck of a DT and in this mock, Pittsburgh doesn’t think twice about grabbing the best player on the board which happens to also be their number one need at #18. 19 Atlanta Golden Tate Notre Dame WR Imagine Tate as a slot receiver in Atlanta’s offense. Yeah, that’s why I don’t think they can pass on him. In my opinion Tate is the best receiver in this draft. I am sure there were a few games where he didn’t score a touchdown in college, but I didn’t see any of those games. I only watched him score touchdown after touchdown. He is a machine. 20 Houston Ryan Mathews Fresno State RB Most people keep saying Mathews will end up in San Diego and that may end up being the case. However, I rank him a little higher than most people do and this is also a need. 21 Cincinnati Jermaine Gresham Oklahoma TE I know this pick seems stale and played out, but this does make sense. If it weren’t for the injury then I would say this is a no-brainer. 22 New England Sergio Kindle Texas OLB34 23 Green Bay Anthony Davis Rutgers OT I think Green Bay has to take the chance on him here. He seems sloppy, but has a ton of potential and they need some help on the offensive line as much as anyone in the league. 24 Philadelphia Brandon Graham Michigan DE43 25 Baltimore Kyle Wilson Boise State CB I think Kyle Wilson is going to be a very good CB in this league. The Ravens fill their number one need with the best player available. 26 Arizona Everson Griffen Southern California OLB34 27 Dallas Charles Brown Southern California OT 28 San Diego Jared Odrick Penn State DE34 29 NY Jets Jerry Hughes TCU OLB34 This may surprise some people, but I do think Hughes is very underrated. Weatherspoon, Kindle, and McClain get all of the attention while six foot two, two hundred and fifty five pound Hughes waits patiently to get his name called. I think it says a lot about him fitting in well with the New York media by how he doesn’t seek out the media. 30 Minnesota Devin McCourty Rutgers CB Minnesota must get secondary help in this draft and the speedy corner from Rutgers starts the recovery process. 31 Indianapolis Mike Iupati Idaho OG I can’t believe he fell, but I think he has been slightly overrated for a while now. It’s not a bad thing either. Guards typically don’t picked high in drafts. The Colts, my team, lands the best guard in the draft and fills a huge need. 32 New Orleans Brian Price UCLA DT43 33 St. Louis Sean Weatherspoon Missouri OLB43 Some have thought he would go to the Giants at #15 and I even started to fall into the mix, although I was never a believer. I could be wrong, but I see Weatherspoon as a player who will get drafted anywhere from #24 to #33. 34 Detroit Maurkice Pouncey Florida OG Detroit does not have many needs. When they win games they shouldn’t this year, I don’t think many of us will be surprised at all. The entire team as underwent a facelift. 35 Tampa Bay Arrelious Benn Illinois WR 36 Kansas City Taylor Mays Southern California SS 37 Washington Jahvid Best California RB Think about it for a second. Yeah, I know you’re with me on this one now. 38 Cleveland Colt McCoy Texas QB 39 Oakland Nate Allen South Florida FS 40 Seattle Jonathan Dwyer Georgia Tech RB 41 Buffalo Carlos Dunlap Florida DE34 42 Tampa Bay Chad Jones LSU SS 43 Miami Cam Thomas North Carolina DT34 44 New England Rob Gronkowski Arizona TE 45 Denver Dexter McCluster Mississippi WR Denver has needed that player who can spark their offense for a while now. While Brandon Marshall has been able to, on occasion get things going in the past, there has been nothing consistent. You can line McCluster up at WR, RB, and have him do all of the returns. 46 NY Giants Tyson Alualu California DT43 47 New England Corey Wootton Northwestern DE34 48 Carolina Demaryius Thomas Georgia Tech WR 49 San Francisco Damian Williams Southern California WR 50 Kansas City Aaron Hernandez Florida TE 51 Houston Patrick Robinson Florida State CB A lot of people don’t think very highly of Robinson, but I think Houston finds a solid corner here at #51. 52 Pittsburgh Matt Tennant Boston College OC Pittsburgh continues to have a great draft, which is underappreciated and possibly even mocked. They would be the last ones laughing after getting two of the very best linemen in this entire draft. 53 New England Dominique Franks Oklahoma CB 54 Cincinnati Vladimir Ducasse Massachusetts OG 55 Philadelphia Navorro Bowman Penn State OLB43 Underrated linebacker who drops only because he is best suited as a 4-3 OLB. I think he could be a candidate for defensive rookie of the year. 56 Green Bay Ricky Sapp Clemson OLB34 57 Baltimore Alex Carrington Arkansas State DE34 58 Arizona Brandon Spikes Florida ILB 59 Dallas Kareem Jackson Alabama CB 60 San Diego Toby Gerhart Stanford RB 61 NY Jets Jordan Shipley Texas WR Jets fans might boo me on this one, but a slot receiver, who can also return kicks could be a real nice fit with Sanchez and the boys. 62 Minnesota Jon Asamoah Illinois OG 63 Indianapolis Daryl Washington TCU ILB The Colts are not known for starting rookie draft picks on day one, however if Daryl can find his way starting at Will then he could make a huge splash into the NFL limelight and be an immediate super star. This is a situation where a good player could land himself in the perfect situation and become an NFL star. It would take the Colts moving Clint Sessions to Sam, but that is a possibility. 64 New Orleans Perrish Cox Oklahoma State CB
Don't mind the Jerry Hughes pick, I'm not down on him as much as other people. I don't love it, but I won't cut my wrists over it. I have a problem with picking Shipley in the second. We have to big of a need at DE. Plus Shipey is a 3rd-4th round pick and should not be picked in the 2nd.
Boo. We have much more pressing needs than WR to take one this early, IMO. There are also plenty of guys in the later rounds who could compete for the slot receiver position and/or return duties. I do like the Hughes pick, but I probably would have went with Hardesty in the 2nd.
Guys, I know you're down on the Shipley pick, but listen to my reasoning on this. Most teams try and mimic their own division and with New England having that slot machine, I think it's something you guys would love to add in the mix as well, especially to enhance the growing process of Sanchez. You have to give the guy some weapons. Shipley is also a return guy and could replace Washington. I have Shipley rated as the 67th best player in the draft, so it's not a reach on my big board. As far as slot receiver goes, he is arguably the third best slot receiver in the draft, following Tate and McCluster.
oh...you didn't hear?.....We drafted some guy named Gholston a couple of years ago to fill that role. suckah.
Hughes doesn't have the versatility for Ryan's scheme. Shipley is going to be 26 when he is drafted. I'd rather have Demaryius Thomas in the late 2nd.
Yuck, I dont like the entire draft and I dont get why Jerry Hughes who is a second round prospect as far as I'm concerned or why we would take Jordan Shipley who will be lucky if he is drafted in the 4th round
