I know he's a Corner, but he's 6' 2"/215, runs in the 4.4's and I'm just trying to think outside the box. So if we don't draft a Safety in RD 1, how do you feel about Cook in RD 2 if Nate Allen & Chad Jones are off the board?
I'd take Chris Cook over Chad Jones. He's a versatile playmaker that would fit into this scheme perfectly. The guy's got great range and he loves to hit. Just to clear things up, I love Chad Jones as a safety prospect. He's my #3 rated safety behind Berry and Thomas. I think his hard hitting style would work well in this scheme, but we need more of a coverage safety...and Chris Cook can be that guy. He's very similar to one of my favorite players from last year's draft, Sean Smith.
Thanks E, I respect your opinion so now I know its not a crazy idea. But do you think Cook will be there for the Jets in round two? I'm thinking its 50/50, how bout you?
I've been a Chris Cook supporter for a while. Cook has the skills to play CB or S. Only downside, he had some academic problems...but nothing too significant. IMO, Cook is a mid rd 2 prospect and doesn't make it to the Jet's pick.
I think Chad Jones has a better shot at being there than Chris Cook does. His versatility makes him a much more valuable prospect.
I did a write up on Cook last month: Obviously, Cook's draft stock has soared since then. He really helped himself at the Senior Bowl and the combine. Like WW, I have him rated as a mid-second rounder.
Bummer  I hope he slides, and E, I like the Sean Smith comparison I liked SS a lot as well, unfortunately the Dolphins drafted him
I agree with this idea, brought it up somewhere. I don't have a great sense of whether or not he'd be there, but the versatility argument is what really sets him apart from the other options. We know Rex loves versatility and a nickel guy who could go man or drop back offers a LOT of disguise options.
I would have no problem with taking Chris Cook in the 2nd if he's there.. Seeing that both Earl Thomas and Eric Berry will almost definitely be gone at #29, waiting until the 2nd or 4th round to pick a safety seems like the best bet... Who are some good FS prospects that could be available in the 4th round?
That'd be fine with me if he lasted to the bottom of the 4th, but I get the feeling some team will fall in love with his intangibles and smarts by at least the 3rd round.
there's a lot more that goes into playing football than you think. the game is beyond cerebral. The only more cerebral game is baseball. That's it.
I can see how its more cerebral on the offensive side but seriously ... how smart do you have to be the play defense?
