I’m making this as much to show how little things can make players drop as an actual serious mock. One trade throws some team needs and makes a big drop for a highly talented player. Have fun tearing it apart. =D 1 St. Louis - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma They need a franchise QB and all current reports are that the love Bradford. It’s the right pick despite the talent at DT. TRADE! – The Lions and Seahawks swap first round picks and the Lions get pick #40 as well. Despite losing out on the point value Detroit gets out of a very expensive to sign #2 selection and picks up a high second rounder. 2 Seattle - Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame Pete Carroll knows QB’s and know he needs one. They trade up the leapfrog Washington and get their guy. 3 Tampa Bay - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska Tampa has all their dreams come true and takes the top DT available. 4 Washington - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St The Skins on the other hand are a more than a little crushed at the trade. They miss out on a QB so go with the best LT in the draft to provide some protection for Campbell 5 Kansas City - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee Berry is the best DB prospect in the draft. Its an easy grab for KC. 6 Detroit - Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa Despite claiming they love their tackles, they don’t. Detroit knows they need to protect the big investment in Stafford and go with the best OT available. 7 Cleveland - Joe Haden, CB, Florida McCoy is the best talent available, but is a 3 tech guy and not a great fit for a 34 front. Haden is a big need and typical pick to the Browns in mocks. 8 Oakland – Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma Undead Al almost wets himself at his luck. McCoy spends the next six years crying him-self to sleep at night. 9 Buffalo - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland The Bills continue to add to a young up and coming O-line. 10 Jacksonville - Derrick Morgan DE, Georgia Tech The Jags need guys who can get after the QB badly. JPP is a good option here as well. 11 Denver - Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma ST With or without Marshall, the Bronco’s need more talent at wideout for McDaniel’s system. 12 Miami – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, USF The Nose is a key cog in the 34 defense. Miami needs one badly but chooses to go with the freakishly talented JPP to groom as an OLB in their 34 front. 13 San Francisco - Earl Thomas, S, Texas With two picks this close in the draft they have to decide whom of their top guys is more likely to go in the next few picks. In the end they grab the highly talented Thomas at 13. 14 Seattle - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma Seattle has the franchise QB in their draft, but with no second round pick the Hawks are forced to go O-line over the highly talented Spiller to help protect their investment in Clausen. 15 The Giants - Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama The G-men can’t believe their luck with the talented McClain falling this far. DT is a serious option here as well. 16 Tennessee - Brandon Graham, DE/OLB,Michigan Graham’s no stop motor wins out. Tennessee loves what he brings to the table over some perhaps more talented and prototypically built DE’s.
17 San Francisco – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers Bad combine aside Davis is still a first round pick. Singletary believes he can motivate the talented young man to his maximum potential as a Tackle. If he does this is a good value here. 18 Pittsburgh - Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho This seems like an almost to typical pick for Pittsburgh. Everyone knows they need help at guard and Iupati is the only guard talented enough to go in the first. A good fit. 19 Houston – CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson Houston is so dumbfounded that Spiller is still there they almost run up and pick before Goodell finishes saying Iupati. 20 Atlanta – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma Atlanta needs pass rush help. The problem is they are not in love with and of the De’s left at this point. Instead they go with the Big talented TE. He’ll get a year to learn from one of the best ever before taking over Gonzo’s role in the offense full time in 2011. 21 Cincinnati – Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame Everyone knows the Bengals need help at receiver. Tate is explosive and adds a missing dimension to their offense. 22 New England – Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida Dunlap’s past scares away Atlanta, but the Pats do not make the same mistake. With Greene signing elsewhere this became a huge hole in their DL. Dunlap plugs it nicely. 23 Green Bay – Valdimir Ducasse, OT, Massachusetts Aaron Rodgers loves this pick after taking a beating last season. 24 Philadelphia - Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU Philly needs to find a way to get after the opposing QB. Despite Hughes weakness against the run, he can get after the QB in a hurry. 25 Baltimore - Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State A close call between him and Cox, but Wilson wins out. 26 Arizona - Sergio Kindle, DE, Texas With no reasonable OT left, the Cards start rebuilding a defense decimated by free agency. 27 Dallas – Taylor Mays, S, USC Jerry Jones falls for the trap. Mays could be a very good linebacker, but lacks the ball skills and mental ability to play safety at the next level 28 San Diego – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State I can almost hear Mr. E’s heart breaking with this pick. It’s a great fit for the chargers one slot before we get to draft. 29 The Jets - Nate Allen, S, South Florida This is a tough spot for the Jets. All of the NT prospects are on the board still, no running back is worthy of a round one pick at this point, Tate is gone. Allen is a Safety with good size and ball skills. Kindell is another very good option with this pick. 30 Minnesota – Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee The Vikings start to rebuild the aging Williams wall by drafting another huge Williams. 31 Indianapolis - Maukice Pouncey, OG/C, Florida This pick stolen from WW85 because it’s a great fit for the Colts. Pouncy can start at guard now and Be bounced inside if anything happens to Jeff Saturday. 32 Da Saints! - Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, MissouriAlmost too good of a fit to be true for the Saints D. Weatherspoon steps in right away and makes a big impact for them.
I wouldn't mind Allen, and I know his stock has risen in the past week, but if Dan Williams is available and we don't take him.... I'd start crying on Christmas.
If the first round goes that way, I really think we slide back to Cleveland's spot so they can pick up McCoy and we can recoup our 3rd and a late pick.
For some reason, the Giants fans think they will take Weatherspoon. I wasn't sold on until they said he would be a perfect fit at the Mike position for them. They have sort of convinced me. I don't think anyone falls for the trap of Mays. I believe he will find himself taken in the second round. I also don't think the trade is out of the question. Seatlle will have to move up to get Jimmy Clausen. I give it about a 25% chance of going that way. You have Bruce Campbell twice. And the only reason why I don't have the Bengals taking Tate is because I think they will address the need in Free Agency. If they don't then that pick is really solid. I also think Miami takes Spiller, which could force San Diego to move up to get Mathews. I am sold on Bradford going #1.
lol.. I hear ya. I love Dan Williams as a prospect and he fell big time in this draft. Houston is a serious player for him, but with Spiller falling to them they almost have to darft the running back. Allen fits the ideal for a Rex Ryan defensive back. He can find the ball and fight off receivers for it. I think he could be a game changer in this defense and gives us a nasty good secondary.
DOH!!! sigh.. so much undone with that lol. Lunch killed me today. Edit: ok have it fixed and bumped Kindell into round one to the cards. Miami needs to get some OLB talent and fast. Taylor is a FA and Porter was cut. Spiller, for this season, is more of a luxury pick for them. I feel strongly that Dan Williams could be the pick there as well. I could see Wetherspoon to the Gmen, but McClain is a huge talent at 15. You could be right about Mays. I was not happy with that pick to Dallas and almsot went NT so they could bounce Ratlif to the outside in thier 34. That would be a scary. Ratlif and Ware coming from the same side is not fair to an ofense. Mocks this time of year are rough. If the Bengals get a FA wideout it could change, but a young explosive guy would help even if a FA is there.
