I think we need to take this guy at our first round spot. He is PERFECT for DE in our 3-4 defense and will provide us the youth that we desperately need at the DE position and be a force right away! He has the perfect size and a hell of a motor.
I think so too. Tannenbaum obviously wants to acquire more picks. However, if Washington gets signed and the Jets get an extra second, I could see the Jets sitting at 29 and taking the BPA. Jared Odrick would be a very good pick, because we can definitely use an upgrade at defensive end.
Hey man, judging by your award you know what your talking about. A lot of experts have been saying this is the deepest draft, possibly ever. Doesnt it make sense to trade down no matter what and get possible a second and third?
Considering our position at the end of the 1st round, we'd be more likely to get a 2nd and 4th in return. I'd still take that.
Yeah true enough, I know this thread is about odrick, so lets ask this is he worth it, picking at 29, or should we trade down and like you say get a second and fourth.
This is one of the best drafts ever. Yes, it makes sense to trade down and acquire more picks...but if a player is sitting there that are coaching staff wants, then they should pull the trigger.
Is Odrick that player? By all accounts he's a solid young workmanlike player who would be able to contribute right away to our defense, which is a good thing. But he certainly wouldn't be the flashiest pick, and I can't help but feel we can do better at #29 with someone slipping. That said, I won't be upset. We can't count on Ellis forever.
What do you feel would be good value for our #29? a high 2nd and 3rd rounder? say one of the top 10 picks wanted our 29, what would you make them give?
As many picks as possible. I'd love to trade back into the beginning of the second round and acquire another fourth rounder and another fifth or sixth rounder. If we're only moving back a few spots, we won't able to get that much in return.
I watched Odrick destroy the big 10. I can't help but think that he will be a very solid starter in this league with pro bowl potential. Add to the fact that he can have some tutoring from Elllis and Douglas, both SOLID DE's in their own right and I think he plugs in very well and takes over fully year 2 or god forbid, after an injury during year 1. Not a flashy pick, but a guy that can get in the backfield and make plays. Plus, he can play anywhere on the line in a pinch as he was a DT in college (approx 300 lbs). Versatility is nice
The Big 10 sucks. Ohio State is really the only team that has a legitimate shot against any out of conference powerhouses.
Whatever man. PSU consistently had a top defense in the country as rated by various polls. We are not here to debate the validity of the big 10. I am not going to argue on the offensive side of the ball with PSU, but as a defensive unit, year in and year out they play their asses off and are always recognized. Odrick is a talent.
Jimmy Kennedy was also a "talent" coming out of Penn State. It seems to me that you're a Penn State fan. They had a good year, but overall, the Big 10 sucks. They usually do have very good defenses, but Nittany Lion defenders rarely become big time players in the NFL.
Fair assessment, linebackers seem to transition the best. Sean Lee will be a nice pickup in mid rounds. I think Bowman will be a beast, Kennedy failed, Courtney Brown eh, blair thomas sucked....I can probably think of more mediocrity then pro bowls, to be fair, we will see about Odrick....if we pick him I think our coaching staff feels they can turn him into a beast, otherwise I'll trust our instincts if we pass.
Here's a name that will be drafted in later rounds that is an underrated talent from PSU : Andrew Quarless, TE...very highly touted from high school, has a dustin keller build and ability. Never got it together like keller did, but the potential is there. Somebody will take a flyer on him late day 2 or 3.
Personally, I like Odrick more as a 4-3 UT, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be a good 3-4 end. I would rather have Arthur Jones in the second (assuming he is totally healthy) I think he's a perfect fit for our D.
