like a lot of you guys are saying as much as i love leon you cant really beat the 49th pick for a guy who coming off a serious leg injury and lets not forget the man is 29 years old. thats getting there for RBs. id hate to lose that "lightening" but hey we can use that pick to get one of the top runningbacks in the draft.

the only thing that would worry me about losing leon is that as of now we will only be going into the season with only greene who is a beast but may be injury prone and 2 unprovens via the draft or practice squad type players.

No. You allowed us a glimpse of that glorious user name. I'd say that's worth breaking 4 years of silence.

I agree with a lot of you guys let em walk another second rounder would be awesome. especially, considering the risk it is to keep him and a year later losing him for nothing.

I don't think he's going anywhere either. I don't think anyone will sign him because the combination of age, injury, and price both in salary and draft picks will scare teams off.

I did not expect a 600+ post thread when I started this.

It's really not a matter of giving him this tender to get one result or the other. The benefit to the 2nd round tender lies in the fact that there are multiple positive outcomes possible and few negatives. He could get locked up for the team at a reasonable rate, or he could leave and net us a 2nd round pick in a deep draft. The negatives are so thoroughly diminished by this tender.

I really don't understand the attitude of simply wanting him to walk.

    Agreed.

I don't want him to walk, but pending the contract, I wouldn't be horribly upset because of his tender.

Just hope a team like the Seahawks picks him up, if it happens, get a nice high 2nd rounder.

Bold Italic and Underline for IF it happens.

I don't think there's much of a chance of him being locked up at a reasonable rate. From the Jets perspective, Washington has wanted an unreasonable rate so far. If another team is willing to give that to him after he's coming off a broken leg, I'm not sure if the Jets will match.

If the Jets were 100% sold on keeping him, they would have slapped a 1st round tender on him. With Braylon Edwards, the Jets are going out of their way to praise him, including giving him a 1st and a 3rd round tender to dissuade other teams.

cba to see if this was already posted in this 11 page thread but here it is - Washington linked to Niners

My mate is a big niners fan and he seemed distinctly underwhelmed by this possiiblity but given the Niners are in the market for another back and have looked at CJ Spiller in the draft this would seem a possibility.

    For the last time.......Leon Washington is NOT 29, 30, 31, 38, 52 or 97 years old.

He is 27 years old as of today.

Not that it matters on whether we keep him. I'm just tired of seeing him referred to as a 30 year old.

If this year wasn't uncapped giving the Jets leverage he would have been signed. basically Leon asked for more than the Jets wanted to pay, the Jets iffered less than waht leon wanted and that was it. Undre normal circumstances there would have been a real negotiation but w/ the labor allowing the Jets to restrict him they didn't have to sign him long term last year. There's no doubt in my mind that if this was a normal year he would have been signed last year long term.

I disagree. He's just now getting a chance to see what the market values him at, and the Jets know that the 2nd round tender gives them the best chance to resign him by matching. No team was going to pony up a 1st rounder for him, and the tender would have simply inspired Keels to overinflate Leon's value again. By assigning the 2nd rounder, we get to see teams give their idea of what his true worth is. I would not be surprised in the slightest if his best offer was much lower than his asking rate, nor would I be surprised to see him take it and the Jets match. Reality is, in all likelihood, about to set in.

Leon to the Pats looks that much less likely. They just resigned Faulk.
