Here is the line from Rotoworld on all of the Jets talk. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/clubhouse_news.aspx?sport=NFL&Show=SKILL&majteam=NYJ
45 or 49? http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/16781/2010-nfl-draft-order-2 Either way, both picks look too good to pass up, even for Leon. Damn, did I just say that?
Leon for 2nd round of 49ers? I would take the pick and run. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/03/ny_jets_running_back_leon_wash_2.html
I don't want to lose Leon, but if the 49ers want to give him a big offer, I'd take #45 and draft a back.
I without a doubt think the Jets should've sprung for the extra 800 grand for the first round tender. He's worth 2.5 million to us, easily-
But no one would sign an offer sheet for a first round tender. This way we force other teams to deal with his r'tard agent to determine market value and all we have to do is match if it's reasonable. Otherwise we end up with Leon for one year and then he's gone and we get nothing back. This way we either get to match a reasonable contract or take a 2nd round pick if someone is willing to pay what shitkeels is demanding.
That's my point, I want to keep Leon. He's exactly what we need and 2.5 million for a versatile player like that is a bargain. He's better then Reggie and makes nothing close to what he has.
Agreed. I would hate to lose Leon. I'm not sure he won't bounce back. LW was easily one of the best players on the team and at times, was the best player on the field, hands down.
We have a better chance of signing him long term with the 2nd round tender than the 1st round tender. Please tell me what part of this you do not understand?
All of it, it's like Rocket Science, please tell me. MY POINT IS- Let's not pussy foot around here and just sign him, no worries about any other team. Let's give him what he deserves, no contracts are worth anything in the NFL anyway. Do you follow me, or do you need more?
And if someone makes a reasonable offer we'll probably keep him for whatever multi-year deal they come up with. If someone agrees to pay the kings ransom that Keels has demanded in the past, then the Jets obviously aren't interested in paying that or they would have done it already. The difference is we get a 2nd round pick in return. If we put the first round tender on him it would only give Master P more ammo to demand a stupid contract and we'd only have him for 1 more year with no draft pick in return.
The Jets aren't going to sign a player long-term when he most likely can't even pass a physical right now. That's the first level of your lack of understanding. A child's understanding of the situation. The Jets tried to give Leon what he deserves last year. His agent balked. Just like his agent will balk if we tender him for 1 season at a first rounder, because there is no team in the league that will put up an offer sheet for him if they have to give up a first rounder. So the Jets tender him at a second, and if he can work out at least a week before the draft, they might lure some teams like the 49ers and maybe the Phins to put up offer sheets for a backup runningback coming off a double-compound fracture - offer sheets that will undoubtedly be fair market value for a backup runningback coming off a double-compound fracture. No team will put a poison pill offer sheet up for a player in his situation. Which means the Jets will match any offer sheet that he signs. But you, of course, have been blabbing about in this thread, worried that the Jets are giving him away, because you just don't understand the situation. We do it your way, the 1st round tender, we undoubtedly lose Leon, and you end up sitting there with a confused look on your face, like someone stole your crayons. We do it the right way, the way it's being done, and we have a much better chance at keeping him. It's too bad all of those wurdz I just typed will probably just end up bouncing around in that empty spot behind your left eye.
I'm not lacking the understanding, I know how much you'd like that but it's not the case. I'm talking from my personal fan perspective, and that's it. I know you are talking on behalf of the Jet FO, I am not. As a FAN of the Jets and and a big Leon supporter I want him to get what he was offered las year and his dick agent declined. From you POV, I GET IT. I'm just giving mine, if everyone had the same opinion there would be no point for forums. Cheers Champ!!
Please see here- http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/08/talks_between_ny_jets_and_leon.html They were offering it last year, and as a FAN I think Leon deserves this still. I know it makes no business sense, but I'm thinking with my heart and not your obviously fabulous mind.
