He will be 35 next year and way past his prime. We are looking to get younger at the position.

Honestly, Ellis may have his best years behind him, but he was a very solid SOLB for the Cowboys for years. If he can be had for cheap, I wouldn't mind bringing him in for depth.

Problem is, you can bet he's looking for a starting job. And if he can't get one, he probably ends up back with Dallas or with Parcells in Miami.

I don't want him long term, if we lose Douglas we don't have very much depth. Plus we don't have a lot of draft picks. I hope we take a DE come April, I just wouldn't mind having an extra guy that we can sign and not lose a FA

who would you rather have greg ellis or adalius thomas for depth. i think thomas has a little bit more juice left in him and could be more productive. I doubt we ever sign both.

Thomas as of right now is not cut, therefor we can't sign him. If we had the choice between the two I vote for Thomas, but as of right now he isn't an option.

Hey Cato, I called it, told you!

He is too long in the tooth. Maybe if he comes cheap and will take a secondary/tertiary role.

If we signed Adalius Thomas, I doubt it would be as a depth player. I'd definitely rather have AT, but I sincerely doubt that Belichick will simply cut the guy and let him go to a division rival.

Willing to bet this is the first time the word tertiary has appeared on these boards. Nice.

Douglas and Ellis don't play the same position.

No, he's too old and injured. We should find depth through the draft.

    1. Ellis is 4-3 DE, not 3-4 DE. He hated OLB job. Perish the thought of him in Green and White.

    2. Learn to think, people. Other than the secondaries, the role of the defenders is starkly different. DE in 3-4 is two-gapping DL, while 4-3 DE is more often than not, one-gapping, and that's usually referring to the outside. Hell, 4-3 DTs are one-gapping at times (That's what Dslob was good for actually, and that's what made Haynesworth a gazillionaire. He hates two-gapping responsibility though.)
