Can someone explain to me how Gholston is not going to play better for the Jets than Jake Long? I'm ALMOST hoping that we move down the draft, so that we don't blow a pick and not get a guy who seems to be perfect for us.
I know a lot of people are really excited about Gholsten but I think that Tommy Blake (TCU) could be a better value in round two or three. How do you guys think they stack up?
If we can get tommy blake in round 3, Draft Gholston and Blake and let them replace Thomas and Hobson
Hobson is useless but I would be surprised if Thomas doesn't start next year. He just got a huge extension and was productive last year on the other side. If Mangini can light a fire under Thomas and he plays across from either Gholston or Blake, he might do very well.
Blake before his early season leave of absence was my top ranked DE/OLB. Size, speed, motor, pass rush, kickass against the run, solid citizen... He REALLY needs to impress with interview. From what I heard when he came back late in the season he was bigger, faster, and stronger. I think he has the chance to have a DeMarcus Ware-esque combine. But the stigma of his early season collapse is going to stick unless he interviews well. He could sneak back into the first round if things go right for him.
Post some videos...anything you can find... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AyWLtterFA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lzbj1xdBSw&feature=related Gholston vs. Jake Long http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yot9ClPvZDg&NR=1
I'm fine with Gholston as long as the DL is also significantly improved. No OLB in the 3-4 is going to successfully rush the passer without decent ends in front.
Had to bump this. Its pretty damn funny of everyones high hopes of Gholston. Even though i do realize we had a hole at the OLB at the time.
Not me. I can't believe I didn't comment in this thread. Enough with Gholston....I just wish he would disappear......I'm sorry, he's never even appeared for the Jets. At this rate, he'll be the Jet's all-time bust pick, right up there with Blair Thomas. No more Gholston threads....please.
thanks for bumping this thread, i just threw up btw i supported the gholston pick at the time not trying to sound like im on a high horse or something
Personally I wanted Rivers or Mayo but I thought the idea of Gholston was going to be great. What a shame looking back at the top 20 after pick number 5 who we could of gotten with the 6th pick. 6 NY Jets Gholston, Vernon DE 7 New Orleans Ellis, Sedrick DT 8 Jacksonville Harvey, Derrick DE 9 Cincinnati Rivers, Keith LB 10 New England Mayo, Jerod OLB 11 Buffalo McKelvin, Leodis CB 12 Denver Clady, Ryan OT 13 Carolina Stewart, Jonathan RB 14 Chicago Williams, Chris OT 15 Kansas City Albert, Branden OG 16 Arizona Rodgers-Cromartie, Dominique CB 17 Detroit Cherilus, Gosder OT 18 Baltimore Flacco, Joe QB 19 Carolina Otah, Jeff OT 20 Tampa Bay Talib, Aqib CB 21 Atlanta Baker, Sam OT 22 Dallas Jones, Felix RB 23 Pittsburgh Mendenhall, Rashard RB 24 Tennessee Johnson, Chris RB 25 Dallas Jenkins, Mike CB 26 Houston Brown, Duane OT 27 San Diego Cason, Antoine CB I understand half of these picks would of been a reach but obvsly there was no way of telling
Wow just imagine the McKelvin, Revis CB duo :drunk: what a defense we would of had. Unless Magina screwed him up like Vernon.
Just to clarify...McKelvin wasn't a lock to be something special. Small school player with some risk.
