Yeah, someone started the rumor that we could sign another Final 4 team's free agents. The rumor was based on shoddy interpretation of the language in the F8P, but people ran with it. They inserted the article "a" in the language so the Final 4 section read:

"any Unrestricted Free Agent who was under contract to such a Club"

    when it actually says:

"any Unrestricted Free Agent who was under contract to such Club".

Collusion and tampering are my 2 favorite un-enforced rule violations.

I think even if there isn't a silent agreement to not overspend (and I don't doubt that there is one) that all teams are anticipating a return to the cap in '11 and beyond. As I said earlier (maybe in a different thread) teams aren't going to want to overspend today then have to release everyone in a year because they've gone way over cap.

I really wish I could have been around baseball in the 60s-70s.

I can't believe people are bitching about not getting a third....

a couple of months ago almost this entire board would have danced in the streets if we knew he was going to be RELEASED next year...

good riddance. the garbage that comes out of that mans mouth this past year was a disgrace to the jets. he's a soft, prettyboy lame that doesn't fit this team and forgot how to play the type of football that made him a good player for a couple of years. he got paid and got lazy....and he made so many bonehead plays in the regular season. i was tired of the missed tackles and blown coverage especially pre benching

GM: Jets set with safeties Smith, Ihedigbo

A convergence of various circumstances led to the New York Jets' decision to trade safety Kerry Rhodes.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said on a conference call Monday they pulled the trigger "based on three factors: in part economics, in part the fact that we got two draft choices for him and then, lastly, the depth at that position."

Tannenbaum added the Arizona Cardinals became more interested when they lost Antrel Rolle to the New York Giants but dismissed the notion Rhodes had to be dealt because of a reported personality clash with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

As evidenced by the trade a day after Tannenbaum indicated Rhodes would be back in 2010, everything said by NFL executives should be taken with a grain of the shifting offseason sands.

For now, however, Tannenbaum isn't declaring a need to procure significant help at safety. On the roster are Jim Leonhard (19 starts, counting the postseason), Eric Smith (four starts) and James Ihedigbo (leading special-teams tackler).

"Smith and Ihedigbo are two guys we like a lot," Tannebaum said. "So there's three safeties in the building that have played for us and we've been successful with.

"That was a big part of our decision with Kerry. We really feel with these three guys we can line up and play winning football on defense.

"We'll certainly add one, maybe two guys there. That could be in the draft. That could be in free agency. I'm not really sure. But one of the things that gave us comfort in the trade was knowing those two guys were here."

^ Tannenbaum said Rhodes wasn't going anywhere like 2 days before he was traded. I don't believe that ish for a second.

Knowing Tanny, that probably means that he knows exactly what he's going to do. He's just making sure no one else does. I've stopped trying to predict any of this guy's moves.

He is definitely looking for other safeties.

Did you skip the last sentence? That article's title is a little misleading.

I know it's not the same thing, but this kind of reminds me of the whole Clemens/Ratliff thing last offseason. That lead all the way up to the draft.

With the re-signing of Ryan Clark the Steelers dont need another safety that eliminates the Steelers as a suiter for Earl Thomas. I hope we trade up into the high 20's i dont care wat Rex says we need another safety.

Trading up for a safety INSTANTLY makes the Rhodes trade a bust. Unless the guy we get ends up being a super all pro elite safety.

How about just a hard hitting play maker?
