Is the power shifting in the AFC East ? by Albert Breer - March 8, 2010 > http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2010/03/is_the_power_sh.html
Great article, and makes sense. Quality over Quantity has always been motto too. Why bang 20 fat chicks when you can get 5 Kellys'.
It's like, March. I think I'll wait until at least after the draft before I start thinking about the balance of power.
I think I'll wait until some actual games are played. I think it's pretty clear that the Jets are going to be at least as good as New England though, if not better.
how far the pats have sunk became clear when a single player (welker) going down sunk the entire team. they are no longer dominant across the board, and they rely more and more on a few skill players. Brady down? they sucked (kind of understandable) Welker down? they sucked Wilfork down? they would suck if NE is having a good game with all their skill players on the field they can still be leathal, but take away just one skill guy and they sink faster than a dolphin with a harpoon to the eye
I would agree that the Jets look as good if not better than the Pats on paper (defense especially). But you just went from a basic fact to fantasy land. They sucked when Brady was out? They lost because of Welker? Get a grip! They have come back to the pack, but don't bet the farm they're not gonna win the division again next year.
The shift in power will come when we consistently win our division. Once every blue moon is not good enough. We are a better team then the Dull-phins yet we couldn't beat them with 2 attempts. It's consistency that we've lacked. The Patriots, as i've said before, are only as good as Brady. Belicheat is only as great a coach as Brady is a QB. I think we will see ole' Billy's genious title tarnished as Brady starts to come to be seen as a mortal with age. Belicheat is not known for his drafting either so the fall from grace for the Pats will be pretty brutal.
We won't really know until the start of the season when we get an idea of the patriots draft classes from 2008 and 2009 and their impact on the team. If those two classes or some hidden gems we don't know about step up, then the pats can be a threat. Otherwise its really looking bleak, especially if leigh bodden signs with the Texans. Leigh bodden signing with the texans really weakens that defense and without reinforcements it will put a lot of pressure on that offense which already has an issue because of wes welker. I think the patriots arrogance is catching up with them a bit. They think they can plug holes left by a samuel and seymour with draft picks, but the problem is they haven't drafted that well. They refuse to open their wallets big time to get a huge free agent so no free agents, very few good draft picks, and mounting losses and age is a bad combination.
The Jets haven't won a division title since 2002. Going as far as they did is nice, but you don't win a balance of power against teams that you can't consistently beat.
They have Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork and a billion draft picks. The Jets haven't won the division in 8 years. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
