Before you spout off about child support perhaps you should research how bogus the laws governing it are. Here in the great state of Massachusetts, if your wife wants to leave for any fucking reason, she takes the kids, house and every other fucking thing that you have and leaves you with all of the bills. This state fucks hard working responsible fathers and forces them to hand over almost everything they've got. The formulas the state uses to calculate payments are grossly unfair. If you'd like to debate this issue, I'd be more than happy to oblige. Sure deadbeat dads are fucking scumbags who deserve to go to jail, but the laws are written to protect against the very small minority of deadbeats while absolutely fucking hard working responsible fathers. Please tell me why some dumb bitch with little earning potential in life should be payed $12 grand a month to raise a kid (could be a little off as I'm trying to remember what Edward's baby momma is getting). The earning potential that they are sacrificing plus the cost of raising a child is far less that the big payday that they are raking in. And proportionately, average Joe's get fucked even harder.
It was just an advance on his contract anyway! they did not give him a raise here just paid an advance on money that they were going to have to spend anyway. It sounds like this is a guy who's off field issues have effected his play, If true, this was a smart move by the jets!
They should have made it like one of those furniture store no-interest, no payment for 1 year deals. IF he doesn't get a certain # of INTs, he has to pay it back with 29.99% interest, and the whole years' interest accrues. I won't say anything about the issue of fairness of child support, since I know nothing about it, but several people in this thread are confusing it with alimony. The lifestyle of the mother would matter for alimony, but child support is a very different thing. And Puck, I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that you meant he should have bought the 10 pack 1000 different times - given his history that would have made sense! :wink:

Honestly, to make the kind of $ these guys make and then not paying child support is ridiculous. I've said it before, but I have seen some crazy shit in regards to women throwing themselves at these guys and having kids on purpose (using expired condoms, putting holes in them), so they can get a piece of the money.
