Maybe somebody owns a #20 and #25 jersey and doesn't want to stop wearing them. It's the only thing I can think of that justifies this over-the-top alarmist nonsense.
Hey, if you want to read about NY sports, it's either the Post or the News. You know that -- unless you're not from NY. Although, I do like the New Jersey Star Ledger too.
You're not just exaggerating, you're being completely ridiculous. Sheppard's bonus was ludicrous and there's not a GM in the league who would have paid it. He's also already been replaced with what is probably an upgrade with the potential to be a big upgrade. Jones is a 32 year old running back who showed signs of breaking down at the end of the season as 32 year old running backs often do. Feely is a kicker and his replacement has already been signed. Revis/Sanchez/Mangold/Harris/D'Brick aren't going anywhere.
But it does delay us getting younger talent in here that can replace them. It isn't ALL about next year. We have to look to the future too.
The five players that are important to the success of this team are: Sanchez Revis DBrick Mangold Harris 4 out of those 5 are due for a lot of money in '11. We're just trying to cover our asses.
Spend it on who? You do realize we are severely restricted in who we can sign right? This was a chance to dump some dead weight without penalty and that's what we did. The article you quoted said we save 20 million in the guys we cut. You do realize we need to resign Mangold, Brick, Revis and a few others next year right? I'd rather have the best CB in the game, the best C in the game and a very good LT instead of a 32 year old RB and a me me me afraid to hit safety. Maybe it's just me.
Way to inflate things. So you are dumb enough to think that Lito Sheppard a guy benched in the most important game of the season was worth a $10 million dollar roster bonus + salary? Then equally ignorant to say that was a cost cutting move rather than just getting rid of a player the coaching staff didn't like? I have news for you he was getting cut if his bonus was $3 bucks. Then Rhodes another prima donna. He was a safety playing the exact opposite way Ryan wants a safety to play. Again he was benched as well. From all the evidence he was entirely unpopular with his team mates (except his oil wearing buddy Braylon) and coaching staff. Hell I have read where Darelle Revis and Rhodes were not on speaking terms at all. Oh yeah lets keep him because god knows we don't want some internet guy to whine like a little baby. Then they released Jones. Another guy who while not outright benched had his role reduced drastically. I guess it was apparent to most of the planet that didn't consist of plant life that he has lost a step. Yes he was a leader in the locker room. However a RB hits a wall in he 30s and Jones certainly looked like roadkill against the Colts.
You don't think Leon Hess cared about winning? Of course he did. He was a good man, and we're lucky he came in to purchase the Titans, or else there may never have been a Jets to discuss today. And he loved his players. Maybe he was a little too loyal at times. Anyway, you can thank Hess for the green and white jerseys
I know enough about our beat writers to know which ones will make alarmist Jets fans weak in the knees with talk of impending doom. BTW, I googled that quote and it comes from Rich Cimini of the Daily News, not the Post. Rich Cimini, professional New York Jets doomsayer. He of course doesn't mention that he as well as a number of other writers predicted that the Jets wouldn't pick up Lito's ridiculous bonus. No team would. Your argument is made of straw.
The funny thing is I own a #25 jersey and so does my wife... Guess it's going in the closet for a long long time. At least her's isn't authentic. Now I need to think what jersey to get her as a replacement. I still have a Klecko and Chrebet authentic so I'm ok. Poor wife has a Pennington and Rhodes
Only Mangold and Harris' contracts expire after 2010. D'Brick expires after 2011 and Revis expires after 2012.
I own a 25 too, actually. I was a Kerry Rhodes fan until 2009, when I realized how much of a lost cause he was.
Keep making excuses for why the team is doing this. But you're wrong. And regarding Sheppard, I was happy the Jets signed him, but he didn't work out. I think it was a good move to get rid of him. We were lucky his injuries didn't cost us. Regarding TJ and Feely - and Rhodes as well - I feel the opposite. Again, it's funny, I state my opinion, you call me names.
Jones is old for a RB but his contract was up after this year, feely isn't old, Leon isn't old, Kerry isn't old. I understand getting rid of Rhodes and releasing Lito but the others are head scratchers for this UNCAPPED year. Leon was great as far as not gouging the fans but he was a terrible owner for winning.
I own a #25. I also own a #29. I'm perfectly fine with the latter leaving for a 2nd round pick, too. He's one of my favorite players on the team, but I'm a fan of the Jets...not those individual players. Ever since his injury, I've mostly been wearing my Revis and Greene jerseys anyway.
You poor bastard... I got it after he had that huge season when he looked like he really was going to be the next Ed Reed. He really fizzled out after that.
