BAHAHAHAH!! That was good! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!    Kerry Rhodes is one of the softest football players in the NFL (including kickers)
Then you're clueless. Rhodes is not the type of player Rex wants around this team. He noticed that in his first year (he fucken benched the guy) and now he got rid of him. Good stuff Rex/Tanny!
I saw Leonhard do that at least 6 times this year, including once in every playoff game. the prancing pony didn't put in the time with the game film.
The jets showed they can go deep with a mediocre safety. It was the nickel back help that killed the team. I love Lowery at nickel he should stay there.
This is a sad day as a Jets fan. I remember when Kerry first stepped in and how much excitement he brought to the defense. He was supposed to be the next great safety and a superstar of the league. We've all seen his play this year and unfortunately it never happened... he needed to go.
1. Card fans have a legitimate reason to be optimistic about Kerry. Donnie Henderson, who made most out of Kerry back in 2007, is now the DB coach of the Cards. Well. Kerry didn't fit with our style of defense - just like Cro wasn't such a good fit with the zone-scheming Chargers. 2. What bothers me is the compensation that we got back. If 4th and 7th was all we could get back, couldn't we have made a run at Boldin for Kerry? Boldin's explosive with the ball in his hand, so if Jets go predominantly with 3WR/1TE/1RB set, then Boldin could overload one side (Braylon/Dustin/Q) and create a lot of match-up problems for us. It's not even like giving up 1st for Marshall either. 3. I hope Jets do something about the FS situation; sooner than later. There are still some capable ones on RFA tender.
Have to agree with all, the compenssation is not great, but when you've got a guy who doesn't fit into the lockerroom culture, the longer you keep him around, the more he fractures that culture. He had to go, and he went. Good riddance. I keep thinking of that Tedd Ginn TD to win the game, then I think to the Jags play to win the game - both the same GODDAMN PLAY.
You my friend have won the bonus round, this is the only thing we could get for him. It's sad that his value has gone down so much but he did this to himself by not playing his position the way it should be played. He shy's away from contact, cannot run back an interception with a 40 yard head start on the offense, and misses his assignments on pass coverage, this KR is not the KR we saw a couple of years ago, we should be happy we got 2 picks for him.
Examiner.com Kerry off to Arizona Bill Kostroun/APAnother day another smart move by the New York Jets. On Saturday Gang Green traded safety Kerry Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals for a 4th round pick in 2010, and a 7th round pick in 2011. Rhodes, a former Pro-Bowl caliber playmaker and fan favorite, wore out his welcome in New York with questionable work ethic, lackadaisical play and his desire to stay in the headlines. While some may question the move as it creates a hole in the Jets secondary, I think this could be a case of addition by subtraction. Gang Green’s defense is built around an aggressive, tenacious style that wants to impose its will on the opposing team. Kerry Rhodes did not bring that approach to the field, which frustrated teammates and coaches alike. It even got to the point where the Jets coaching staff had to bench Rhodes in week 12 due to a horrific tackling performance the week prior. To Kerry’s credit he did rebound and play well after the benching, but the writing was on the wall for the former ballhawk at that point. In terms of a replacement for Rhodes, the Jets have a couple of ways they can address the position. Gang Green can use the hard-hitting Eric Smith, can trade for a player like Antoine Bethea or Dawan Landry, or the team could use a first or second round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Regardless of how the Jets go about it, the team should be able to find a suitable replacement. In summary the Jets made the right move trading Kerry Rhodes. Rhodes did not meet Rex Ryan’s model of “being a Jet” and the team went ahead and did something about it. No one player is bigger than the team and this trade reiterates that. Side note: I can understand some wanting to question what the Jets got in return for Kerry Rhodes. While a 4th round pick (and a 7th in 2011) is not ideal, I think the word had quickly spread around the NFL that Gang Green was not happy with Kerry. Teams are not stupid, especially when Rhodes was due a $2 million dollar bonus on the 12th. I think Gang Green got what they could for Kerry and cut their losses. Thank god! Those who thought he was worth more than a 4th and a 7th need to watch last years game tape. There is another move coming to replace Ms. Rhodes, bet on it.
I'm a tad late to the dance on this one...but here's my 2 pennies worth: First and foremost, I'm glad to see Rhodes go......when a guy is more worried about fucking "showboating" rather than finishing a play, it's time for a change. Plus, the guy tackles like a Sunday School Teacher. Having said that....the trade compensation is awful. A 4th rounder?....fuck! I thought Tanny would've been able to fleece a little more than that. Now that we've created another hole in the secondary.....where do we go from here? There's really nothing in Free Agency that can fill that void (especially since the Final 8 rules kill us anyway)....so i'm assuming we look to the draft. Chad Jones, Nate Allen, Taylor Mays *cringes*, Earl Thomas & Eric Berry (both should be gone by 29)..... Safety is the new priority at the draft
I'd say we are building for the future but definitely swinging for the fences this season at the same time. Unless ET falls into our laps at the end of the 1st round, I don't believe Tanny will draft a safety. I think he wants a veteran (not Sharper) back there next to Leonhard. Unless, of course, it's Thomas. Then, I could see an exception being made.
