Big Difference.. Marshall when on the field is a CONSISTENT threat and PLAYMAKER. Rhodes on the other hand disappears for SEASONS at a time...
I don't like the move, I feel like he's a better player than a 4th round pick and worth more than that to us, when we look back and look at our 4th round steals who do we think of...Kerry Rhodes
Rhodes is still a top 10 FS. Im not gonna complain about the trade until the end results are in. If we find a good replacement for value thats ALL that matters.
As a general rule, when everybody knows a team wants to ship a player out, it becomes difficult to get much in return. Rhodes is worth more than what we got, but the circumstances were what they were. If Jim Leonhard hadn't played the way he did down the stretch last year, this would feel like big, big trouble, but he did, so it doesn't. I can honestly say I wouldn't feel terrible, given the cornerback duo the Jets now boast, about going into 2010 with Leonhard and Eric Smith as our starting safeties. If the Jets can somehow land Earl Thomas (Eric Berry is obviously way out of our reach) then so much the better. But the sense I get is that, while this is almost certainly a net loss in talent, its a loss that the team feels we can afford given the addition of Cromartie, and its a loss the coaches are happy to deal with given that it takes something of a diva off the Jets hands. In the end, Rhodes has nobody but himself to blame for the fact that he now lives in the middle of the desert.
I don't hate the idea, largely because they added a pick, as long as there's some sort of plan in place. I don't even care what that plan is, as long as there's something. If it's Otogwe, then great. If they think they can draft a starter, awesome. If it's dropping Dwight Lowery back to safety, super duper.
I don't think hes close to top 10 based on his play the past 3 years, 5 good games after being benched just don't warrant it...
Theres a difference between Kerry Rhodes and brandon Marshall, it's this funny thing called TALENT. Marshall was benched cause he's a douchebag, Rhodes was benched because he sucks.
The whole Lowery at safety thing was brought up a lot before the 2008 season, but it got lost when they brought in Leonhard after Rex got here. He actually spent some of camp playing back there to see how it went if I'm not mistaken.
If the Jets move Lowery back to safety, then we need to bring in two more corners. We may have the bodies but we do not have enough QUALITY depth at either position in the secondary to start switching places. As it stands, we still need a CB(someone other than Coleman to push Lowery for the nickel job) and a safety(E. Smith is great depth but not a full-time starter).
I honestly thought we could get a 3rd for Rhodes from someone, or maybe an earlier 4th, if we did decide to trade him. I figured he was on the block. Clearly, he was far more available than Tannenbaum was letting on. I hope this leads to Atogwe. He'd be expensive, but we've been cutting corners this offseason to save money so far. Atogwe would be a welcome payoff.
i would be just as uncomfortable with e.smith than i would have been with kerri starting.now turn that 4th into major wright and i think we'll be ok
This!!! I am so excited I don't have to watch Rhodes run from hitting a player, and coming in late to get his number on camera.
