where is this Otogwe shit coming from??? someone give me a fuckin link before he becomes the next bullshit hopes and dreams candidate of the uninformed.
Why in the Hell would the Jets trade for a corner who cannot tackle and them move him to FS to replace a FS who cannot tackle?
We don't know that and we have traded away a player before and then failed to replace him(Pete Kendall).Who's to say this isn't the same situation. The only thing that gives me hope is that this is the start of the offseason with the draft still to come, the Kendall situation went down at the end of the offseason.
I'm getting a good laugh out of this thread... We gave up a safety who is mediocre for a 4th round pick in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory..the draft has great depth! We get picks back (anyone else tired of us trading everything away?) The 4th rounder can help us maneuver on draft day.. Ryan knows defense, and undoubtedly would not let Tannebaum trade him if he truly felt like he was irreplaceable.. The OJ Atogwe story sounds like a Madden trade.
I can see the Jets FO wanting 4 picks in between the 2nd and 4th rounds. plenty of talented depth that can do something in the 2nd half of the season when they are confortable with the system and start making plays
If they address the 3-4 needs they do it in the earlier rounds. I'm talking about depth...4th past there won't be much. and like I said before MT said they wouldnt use the 29th pick on a CB, he said probably they would take best avail, which may not even be a need.
This is far from the Pete Kendall trade. Did you forget that we still have that whole "draft" thing coming up in a month? There are still FA and RFA possibilities out there for the Jets to explore. If we're going into Minicamps with E. Smith starting next to Leonhard, then you can start worrying.
Some of you are upset with this? We got rid of Rhodes for future young potential. It's not like teams weren't going to do their research on this guy.
That's what I mean. I don't want everyone wanting Otogwe and then the Jets don't get him and then there is tons of bitching and moaning about the Jets not getting Otogwe.
Kerry Rhodes is a talented player sure, but that doesn't mean shit if he doesn't try or fit the system. He was always late in coverage and tackled like a pussy, I will gladly take a 4th for him in the best draft ever. Rex and Tanny would not have made this move unless they knew what they were doing.
I would love this. trade the 29th for someone's 2nd and 3rd or 2nd and 4th depending what spot we trade with.
This is the only saving grace I think. While it might not seem like much now, on draft day I bet there will be some teams willing to listen in the 3rd round for a package of a 4th + a 7th. Otherwise, I think Tanny outsmarted himself with this move. While I hate Kerry with a passion, I almost would have rather kept him than trade him that low. I highly doubt we'll hear bitching from "locker room sources" the way we did when TJ was being cut though
Dude, the Jets own the 4th round. And this draft is better than the ones where the Jets found Smith and LW and Lowery. History says good things are going to be drafted.
If we don't sign Otogwe or sign and trade for Antoine Bethea(sign to his offer sheet we give up 1st...NO!!!) this trade is a huge step backward. The only way this trade is acceptable is if we needed the cap room to lock up all our young guys like Revis, DBrick, Mangold, etc. I hope we don't replace Rhodes with Eric Smith
Yesterday everyone was assuming that Kerry Rhodes would still be on the team because Mike Tannenbaum said so. Last season, Tannenbaum said the Jets were going into 2009 with Clemens, Ainge, and Ratliff as the QBs on the roster. And how do you know that BPA won't be a need? How do you know that Tannenbaum is not going to trade down? What is with the negativity here? If you think it is going to be that bad, why even bother following?
