Strickland was cut because of his injury problems. If the Jets want to improve the team, they should be looking in other places aside from their own injury reports.
NFL running back in the possible twilight of his career, I'm pretty sure he would want to sign for a contender. SO MAKE IT HAPPEN TANNY!
It's hard to describe how stupid this move is!!! We finally had a #4 CB that wasn't a liabilty and we cut him??? Fuck you Tannenbaum... I love you but this time you screwed it!!! Was he injured often? Who gives a shit... when he's injured the #5 CB gets more space... this way we are stuck with that looser Coleman one more year... stupid stupid stupid move.
I think the Jets would love to go BPA pretty much across the board except at ILB and QB. If it's a cornerback, I'd have no problem with it (though I'd have a few reservations in round one), especially if the Patriots get Boldin.
What are you talking about? Not a liability? The guy has never played a full 16 games. He's made of freaking glass. If we bring him back then that means more Drew Coleman on the field. If we replace him with a player who can actually stay healthy, then that means much much less Drew Coleman. Coleman was staying on this team this season regardless of wether or not Strickland was cut, so getting rid of Strickland for a healthy player is a much better idea.
The guy couldn't stay on the field.. I'd rather pick up a healthy, younger maybe even better CB through the draft..
because prior to being a free agent TJ didn't know what other teams were offering or even the teams that would be interested are. if it is the Chiefs, or another comparable team, after him and their offer isn't significantly better than the Jets, it is possible that TJ would rather play on the Jets who have a chance to win even though it is for less money.
*loser Lowery has low-end #2 ability and will prove to be an excellent nickel. Coleman is our #5 for better or worse. I think a lower tier FA will fill the #4 void just fine. Agreed...
possibly and probably likely, but maybe winning for a little less money will be more valuable than collecting a paycheck on a bad team once he sees what his options are on the market, but he has to be a free agent to be aware of his options and why it is to his best interest to stay with the Jets.
It was a good idea to get rid of Sheppard and Strickland. When they were injured, it made things very tough for the coaching staff to adapt, although the staff did a very good job with what they had. Anyway, it's bad to have important roster spots taken up by injuries, so the Jets did the right thing. I liken them to Nick Johnso with the Yankees
I loved strickland when he played...IMHO his injury was the biggest factor in us losing to the colts. everytime he wasnt hurt you would always see him making key tackles, pass deflections and even remember him forcing a fumble or two. i don't see the logic in this move. you can retain the guy for not so much money(with his injuries, he's not going to command a big contract like someone said), and keep him for depth. if you get another CB that can play somewhat well as a #3/4 cb, its just an insurance policy. if they don't resign him, they're going to regret it unless they get a proven stud in that role
