So if Rolle goes to the Giants, where does that leave us in regards to the possibility of trading Rhodes? Are we really that comfortable in starting Eric Smith, or even a rookie next season at FS, if we ship Rhodes off? I love me some Smith, but I don't know how I feel about him starting all 16 games for us.

Part of the reason I felt at ease about the Cromartie pickup, was the still lingering possibility we'd trade Rhodes for a much desired draft pick. That possibility would clearly be in jeopardy should Rolle sign with the Giants. The thought of having two p***ies in our secondary who can't hit worth s*** definitely makes me sick to my stomach.

Are there any other worthy FA candidates out there to potentially replace Rhodes?

Why was this thread moved? It's about what implications Rolle signing with the Giants has on the Jets.

Edit: If the title's too misleading, feel free to mod it.

I moved it back, but I don't see the connection you are trying to make.

I wouldn't go that far, but he's definitely an upgrade over Rhodes and he's a very smart player.

I doubt Rhodes goes anywhere without a viable replacement signed here first. I still want to see what he can do with one more year under Rex. He has the talent.

If he doesn't shape up this year, by all means ship him.

He is indeed. I still remember when the CFL drafted him...and he opted to stay in school one more year instead.

With the money Rolle wants, I doubt we're taking a real look at him. I'm glad if he signs with the Giants, if only because he doesn't sign with the Dolphins.

That's my thoughts. The only way Rhodes is traded is if we find a viable replacement first. Tanny likes to plug all the holes before we get to the draft, so I don't really see us going to the draft without Rhodes or his replacement. However, if the Jets view Eric Smith as a starter, which I don't think they do, then they could be making a move.

Agreed, and if the Giants dump that kind of money on his head, I immediately start pulling for the Redskins to sign Dansby.

This could have an impact on what happens with Rhodes... I seriously doubt we're serious players to begin with and I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign in NY but just not with us.

I agree though ...Atogwe would be an unreal signing by us. There was a guy on the 49ers who might be worth a look too but I'm drawing blanks on his name.

Haven't seen him play, but if he's willing to hit, it's an instant upgrade. I really don't want Rhodes for another season; I'd almost take a 4th for him if we can find a suitable replacement.

And what does Atogwe being Canadian have to do with anything? We're talkin' football, not hockey.

Why would Rolle signing with the Giants affect Rhodes that much? Rolle has to go somewhere. If he leaves Arizona, suddenly the Cardinals have a hole. If he stays in Arizona, the Giants still need a safety. If he goes to Chicago, then both need a safety.

Obviously, it would affect which teams would go after Rhodes. But it's not as if the Giants are the only team the Jets could trade Rhodes to...

Keeping Rhodes isn't the worst case scenario here. He still has a ton of talent, and wasn't a complete disaster this year. Let's see how well he does after the addition of Cromartie.
