The hate you guys have for me.....lol.....clouds all of your rational minds. It's funny how you miss the point. The RB style could be different that's not the point. The point is an average back could put up the same numbers Jones did this season....Jones was productive because of our o-line. Another RB would of been better. Whether that RB is Reggie bush, Peterson, JOnes-Drew, Michael Turner, Lynch, they would of put up better numbers. Jones is stale, old, he has no swag, no way to create for himself. Good riddance
In terms of pure ability, Jones is not a great back. With a great line in front of him, we saw what he could do the past 2 years. With a terrible line the year before that we saw him struggle. He's not elite, but he's a very good back. What he contributed to this team went beyond his yards per carry or ability to break tackles. It was that he was a leader in the locker room. It was that he was never hurt and able to withstand the punishment of an entire season. He was reliable, and that is what the Jets are going to miss the most. As much as I love them, Green and Leon both have major question marks heading into next season.
And he struggled to the tune of 1100+ yards in 2007. Pretty terrible numbers running behind swiss cheese, if you ask me When Green is out for 6 weeks mid season and the Washington's or a rookie back are struggling for 80 yards per game, and we're putting it on Dirty's shoulders to win a us game, we'll all be wishing TJ was here instead of running through our DLine for the Pats...
No one hates you. We hate your posts. Yes, Thomas Jones was successful in part because of our offensive line. He was a solid, if unspectacular back for us. He STILL was one of only 4 backs to rush for 1000 in each of the 3 years he was with us. The others were Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, and Steven Jackson. While I'd rather have any of those 3 than Jones, I'm sure as hell not going to suggest that I'm not glad to have had him for the past 3 seasons.
I never said I wasn't glad to have him for the past 3 seasons....I just said he was overrated. Only productive due to our O-line
I respect Thomas Jones and everything he has done for this organization. However, when push came to shove he chose his contract over the team. He knows this team has other holes to fill, and if he was such a team player he would have taken a paycut. I respect that he chose the money over potentially winning a ring with the Jets. If he felt disrespected for this fact, then that is his problem. Bring in a guy like Toby Gerhart, and he will be more productive than Jones would have been this year. This is a business.
Ok, what makes you think that this guy is not replaceable? Beside his 3.5 yards per carry, and few burst of 20 plus, is he worth it? He had no consistency in running the football behind one of the best o-lines in the league. It was night and day watching Jones run, and then Greene run. Did you watch the playoffs? There is a reason Jones was sitting on the sideline for a majority of the playoffs. He is done. This guy can take his money and go to an average team with a 2.5 yards per carry average. Like I said before, his age showed
That's not exactly groundbreaking, regardless of how badly you want it to be. That very notion has been discussed ad nauseam for two seasons now. The extreme nature of your perspective, however, is foolish. Everyone recognizes that the O-line has been a big part of his success. The ONLY reason for his productivity, though? Come on... You should really consider stopping with the threads. They've all been either moronic or retreads of old discussions. Completely unnecessary.
That's fine, but watching "the majority of the games" does not make one the preeminent authority on the team. Personally, I've never understood how you could entirely miss a single game with only 16 per season.
So to sit there and say Jones is overrated doesn't that mean Greene can also be overrated? They are running behind the same OL. I guess Emmit Smith was overrated also he ran behind a great OL most of his career. He didnt say anything about his age but when you say a man is overrated that saying his whole career. How many RB ran for over 1400 yards this year like TJ?

In every game where Jones had an average of higher then 4.0 yards per carry, with the exception of one, Jones had at least a long of 25+ yards 321 over his 1,402 yards came in two games. Without those two games, his overalls would be: 331-48 = 283 attempts 1,402-321 = 1081 yards 1081/283 = 3.8 Avg. So honestly, aside from two spectacular games, Jones had a fairly pedestrian season, though still good. Not quite 6 million dollar material. In the post season, against better competition, his play dropped off even more, to a horrid 2.6 ypc. That's a trend that can easily continue. He hit a wall in week 15, had a small resurgence against a vanilla Indy team in week 16, and never had a good game after that. I predict that Jones will barely break 1000 yards for whatever team he plays for next year, and will have less then a 3.5 ypc average. As much as I like Thomas Jones, he is not worth 6 million a year. Not by a long shot. Also, I'm willing to bet the first 8 games or so for Jones, he will look like he's going to have a monster season, and he will tail off after that.
1) See my earlier post, 2) For comparison, TJ Ran for 4.2 ypc in the regular season behind this O-line, while Greene ran for 5.0 ypc In the playoffs, Green ran for 5.6 ypc (even with a 'subpar' performance in Indy, posting a 4.1 ypc before getting injured) while Jones posted a 2.6 ypc..... Jones may not be overrated, but he's not spectacular either.
I'd say he is very slightly overrated.. If his two biggest games were removed from the equation, he only had 1,081 yards , in 283 attempts...
