http://bleacherreport.com/articles/355144-jets-pay-cuts-foreshadow-big-offseason-move The possibility of the Jets making a big offseason move is increasing rapidly. Thomas Jones is on the way out. His $3 million roster bonus will not be paid. Lito Sheppard will be following. His $10 million roster bonus will not be paid either. Don't let the door hit them on the way out. With an uncapped 2010 season on the way, I started wondering why the Jets won't hold on to a running back coming off a career year and a veteran corner back who is better than anyone else on the roster (obviously excluding Darrelle Revis). That's when I realized they might be clearing some space for someone with a big contract to come in. Who that player may be is unknown and I can only speculate as to what the Jets will do this offseason, but I'll offer some possibilities. I mentioned in a previous article that the Jets should sign Antrel Rolle. As of now, they have been fairly quiet as to what Kerry Rhodes' fate will be, but if you hear anything about him being released, bank on a Rolle signing. It can also be assumed that the Jets will replace Lito Sheppard this offseason. I can guarantee Dwight Lowery will not be starting across from Revis next season. So who will be? I've already suggested trading for Nnamdi Asomugha (and I understandably took some heat for it), so all I'll say on that subject is that there is a remote chance that the Jets will trade for the Raiders' star corner back (who is on the block for reasons that I don't comprehend). If not Asomugha, who? I'll tell you who: Dunta Robinson. He was not released by his team, so the Jets have some restrictions in terms of signing him. Depending on what kind of contract Lito Sheppard gets, the numbers could potentially work out in a way that the Jets could bring in Robinson. I won't bore you with the math, but there is a chance that Robinson could be a Jet if they are interested. It won't be as easy as signing a RFA (who the Jets have no restrictions on), but it is still a possibility. There is always the chance the Jets look into signing someone like Kevin Dockery. The Giants corner back is a restricted free agent and will be testing the market. This clearly contradicts the assumption that Gang Green is looking to make a big move, but I thought I'd cover all bases. No matter what happens, it should be an eventful offseason.
The big move is that Thomas Jones is not worth $6 million and Lito Sheppard sucks. The Jets never expected to give either player that money.
there should be a warning in the thread title when it contains a bleacher report article. maybe something like: WARNING THIS ARTICLE SUCKS
holy christ, jtrain......are you oblivious to reality? Bleacher Report is a dishrag of a news source...this point has been discussed at length recently on the board...WTF are you doing posting this garbage?!
That article is absolutely terrible. He won't bore us with the math because he's pulling it out of his ass and doesn't really have a tenable method for bringing Robinson in. All this does is increase the baseless speculation on the board.
Umm, yeah. Maybe they don't deserve it. And Dunta Robinson will not be a Jet this year unless Al Davis or Dan Snyder sign Lito.
The first two words in the title of this thread are "Bleacher" and "Report". How could you get excited after that?
I have heard contradicting reports on that issue and Im not sure what to believe. According to http://www.nyjetscap.com/2010finaleight.html, Jets can sign a player equivalent to the value Lito gets.

That's outdated info. The guy who runs that site has since backtracked on his view of the Lito situation. From yesterday: http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/03/02/salary-cap-update-lito-is-not-a-ufa/
That sucks. I guess Lito was a waste. Maybe we should try to work out a late round deal with someone like Al Davis. TJ should have been dealt for another late rounder as well. Im sure Tanny could have found a new home for these two pro bowlers.
How? Everybody and their mothers knew that the Jets weren't gonna pay their roster bonuses and hence were gonna be released anyway
I dont have any clue what the move will be but I think the Jets will do something fairly big as well. I know that all the so called "experts" on here will tell me a million reason why they cant. I've seen posts and posts on here from people thinking they have all the rules for this uncapped year bullshit down pat but when it comes to it I dont think many of them know their elbows from their assholes. Depending on who you talk to everyone has a different interpration of all this years rules. Who the fuck really knows? No one on here I'm willing to bet. Either way we'll all find out if we're gonna attempt to pull something off soon.
