LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears released tackle Orlando Pace after one season in which the 34-year-old played little like the All-Pro he once was with St. Louis.

The Bears also released tight end Fontel Mines and guard Tyler Reed on Monday.

    Orlando Pace, OT

    Bio
    Height: 6-7
    Weight: 325
    Experience: 13th season
    Games: 169
Chicago signed Pace last season as a free agent to help patch up a faulty offensive line, but the fading star didn't provide much help. He started 11 games, missed time because of a groin injury and finished his 13th NFL season as a reserve.

Pace was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with the Rams and one of the best offensive tackles in the league. He was drafted No. 1 overall out of Ohio State in 1997 and went on to play in two Super Bowls with St. Louis.

That the Bears released Pace was no surprise given his struggles last season and the progress of former first-round draft pick Chris Williams, who moved from the right side to his more natural left tackle spot after Pace injured his groin against Minnesota in late November.

Chicago had hoped Pace would help solidify the line when it signed him to a three-year deal on the same day last April as the blockbuster trade with Denver for quarterback Jay Cutler. With those two moves, the Bears thought they were jumping into contention in the NFC.

Instead, they stumbled to a 7-9 record and missed the playoffs for the third straight year.

Cutler found himself on the run and wound up with a league-leading 26 interceptions because of poor blocking by a line that ranked 19th overall and his own poor decisions. The running game, meanwhile ranked 29th, with Matt Forte going from 1,238 yards as a rookie in 2008 to 929 yards last season.

Brick could probably hire Pace to cut his front lawn and walk his dogs.

EDIT: this is also the dumbest fucking thread i've seen in the offseason......way to be consistent.

No, but at least this wasn't a complete waste of a thread due to the explanations of what "yes" and "no" meant.

I was about to bone my girlfriend out at the lake, but suddenly she yelled. So I looked up and it was Big Foot.

Then I went back to bone her, but the mosquitoes were going crazy and she said there was no way.

We have coaches to "guide" D'Brick and they have been doing a hell of a job. Why waste a roster spot on a coach?

I think my IQ went down about 20 points by simply trying to comprehend what your reasoning for this was.

Brick could probably mentor Pace. The fact that the Bears cut him with all the O-Line help they need says a lot about him at this point in his career. He was once a great LT, one of the best ever, and we could've had him in his prime if we'd kept the #1 pick in '97, but we don't need him now.

I could have sworn that Brick was already "groomed" into a probowl left tackle.
