Restructuring his deal would mean he would be making really good #2 corner money, not #1. Which would...again leave you ready to sign Mangold, Revis, Harris, and Brick possibly. I think Leon is expendable. I hate to say that. Aso probably won't do it, this trade probably won't happen anyway.
I understand we need to secure Brick and Mangold and even give Revis a pay raise, but I'm not interested in a long term deal with Washington. Obviously, we can win without him. He's a nice ST and gimmick play guy to have, but I'm really not interested in throwing $3-4M a year at a 28yo part time player coming off a SERIOUS leg break. If he isn't willing to play for less, send him on his way.
You figure Leon won't be resigned long term and we'd go after a cheaper scat back. But yeah Brick, Mangold, and Revis will command big bucks..Harris will also command pretty good money
Restructuring his deal would just move a bunch of his salary forwards or backwards or convert it to signing bonus and shit like that; he's not taking a paycut. If we are to have Revis and Aso, both will be getting #1 CB money because both are #1 CBs. But yeah, like you said. This trade probably won't happen.
Restructuring his deal would probably include moving it over more than the one year/franchise QB option remaining on it. He will still command a lot of cash but not over the course of two years and with a smaller cap number.
Contract Information for Nnamdi Asomugha 2/19/2009: Signed a three-year, $45.3 million contract. The first two years, totaling $28.6 million, are fully guaranteed. Another $4.7 million is available through incentives. To keep Asomugha through 2011, the Raiders must pay him either the franchise number for quarterbacks that year OR $16.875 million, whichever number is greater. If the club fails to exercise the option, Asomugha cannot be franchise tagged and will become an unrestricted free agent. 2010: $755,000 (+ $8 million roster bonus due 3/5 + $7.83 million option bonus due 3/19), 2011: $2.105 million (Club Option), 2012: $3.455 million (Voidable Years), 2013: $4.805 million, 2014: $6.155 million, 2015: Free Agent

By Rich Cimini On the surface, it seems too outlandish, the Raiders trading their best player, CB Nnamdi Asomugha to the Jets, but let's play a little fantasy football. On Jan. 31, following the Pro Bowl in Miami, Asomugha told ESPN.com's Tim Graham that he was interested in playing for the Jets, teaming with Darrelle Revis to form the most hellacious cornerback tandem in, like, forever. "Me and Revis have been talking to Rex (Ryan) to try to do something," Asomugha said that night. "You may see us in the future. There's a little bit of talk going on. Either he's coming to Oakland or something else will happen." (Later, he told Graham he was joking.) Said Revis: "Me and him have talked about it, but I can't really control that situation. I don't know if he can either." Today, ESPN's Adam Schefter floated an item, saying the Raiders would be willing to trade Asomugha. Why? Who knows? They're the Raiders, so they do strange things, but it has to be a delicious possibility for Jets fans. With Revis and Asomugha on the corners, the Jets would be almost bulletproof in the secondary. Ah, but there's something called a contract that could get in the way of that fantasy. Asomugha has $16.6 million in guarantees coming to him this year, and there's a funky clause in his deal (which expires after 2011) that would earn him another gazillion dollars if they use the franchise tag on him. Those are major obstacles. Also consider that the Jets appear interested in extending Revis' contract, which means major bucks. Imagine paying $30 million a year for two cornerbacks. That said, I still think something could develop between the Jets and the Raiders. A few reasons: 1. The Jets need a cornerback to replace Lito Sheppard, who will be cut soon. 2. Mike Tannenbaum can't help himself. He can't sign any big free agents because of the "final eight" rule, so he could try to get his off-season fix by swinging a blockbuster trade. 3. There probably won't be a cap this year, so they can take on a mega contract or perhaps restructure/extend a mega contract. (Disclaimer: If the league goes back to a cap in 2011 -- if there is a 2011 -- there will be "transition" rules that could apply, perhaps dissuading the Jets from a deal of this magnitude.) 4. Woody Johnson desperately wants to put a championship team in his new stadium. It's a long shot, of course, but my guess is that Mike (Due Diligence) Tannenbaum is sniffing around this situation. We know he's not afraid of the big deal. A few years back, he tried to land a big-time cornerback, as he was heavily involved in the Champ Bailey trade talks with the Redskins. He didn't get Champ. Will he try for Nnamdi?
^ Tanny was trying to get Champ Bailey few years ago? I didn't follow forums back then so Im unaware of that. What the situation like back then? Was the compensation issue or was it $$ issues?
Tannebaum was still the Asst. GM at that point so I'm not sure what exactly his involvement was but it would have been Bradway running the show.
Although far fetched....I will say this... If the following is true... -Asomugha wants to be a jet and is willing to restructure -Al Davis is willing to make a reasonable deal w/ the jets -The Jets have strong interest in Asomugha ...Mike Tannenbaum has the creativity to make a fair move for all happen. Asomugha and Revis would be absolutely unreal.
we traded shaun ellis lamont jordan and anthony becht for champ bailey but champ squashed it.the redskins wanted too though.
You've got a very skewed perspective when it comes to value assessment. If Al Davis throws 1st and 2nd while restructuring Asomugha's deal to make him trade-friendly, surely! Remember, you're dealing with Al Davis. As for the players we offer up... we have a brand new monster OLB that looks like a genuine stud (Ghost) and a flashy FS that will create the second coming of Hollywood right in the heart of Oakland (Sherry)
The odds of this happening are the same as Gholston becoming a game changing pass rushing force..... if the 2 were to magically occur, I'd place my bets now to buy a ticket to Dallas.
So if the Raiders keep Asomugha they are somewhat fucking themself in the money department.. So perhaps they are trying to get rid of him, and possibly gave him that huge contract in a strategy to later get rid of him for a greater price. send them this years first round, the ghost, and kellen.
I bet if we traded for Aso they would want someone like harris which would be tough but still tempting to do.
Harris is emerging to be a star, and he has played 3 years. We have to think somewhat long term also when executing deals/trades. I think a Bart Scott and a 1st round to be realistic. Doubt Rex would backstab Bart Scott though.
Yea im not advocating getting rid of Harris at all but for an Aso caliber player its going to take some big chips to get him.
