1. St. Louis Rams – Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska Rams going with the best player available and filling a crucial need in the trenches. 2. Detroit Lions – Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma Same logic as the Rams. 3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Eric Berry, S, Tennessee This is where it could get interesting and really set the tone for the top 10. Will the Bucs take the best defensive player available in Berry or will they go with a bigger need in a good DE (Pierre-Paul) or even a WR (Dez Bryant)? They may even want to trade down a few picks to take either of these two. However, if Tampa stays put, there is no better fit for them than one of the best Safety prospects in years. 4. Washington Redskins – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame The Redskins want to start over at the QB position and will not risk it on a QB with a shoulder injury (Bradford). Anthony Davis and Russell Okung will be on the radar for Snyder and Shanahan here too. 5. Kansas City Chiefs – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers Fills a position of great need with arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft. 6. Seattle Seahawks – Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St. Consecutive OL picks are made to let everybody know that you have to build starting in the trenches. 7. Cleveland Browns – Joe Haden, CB, Florida Mangini will try to land his Revis (again). Will he succeed? He’ll also be taking a hard look at Pierre-Paul here but then he remembers the Gholston pick. 8. Oakland Raiders – Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa No way Al Davis takes Dez Bryant here…right? There’s really no way in knowing but someone has to hint at the old man that games are won in the trenches. They’ll give Russell one more year to show his stuff, otherwise Bradford may be intriguing here. Pierre-Paul, who will have a good combine, will draw interest too. 9. Buffalo Bills – Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma The Bills get their franchise QB with the 9th pick (if he stays healthy). Sanchez-Bradford decade long rivalry? Could get interesting. 10. Denver Broncos – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St. McDaniels helps out his QB by getting him a premier wideout with all the physical tools. Marshall can walk freely next year. 11. Jacksonville Jaguars – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida The Jags get the best pass-rusher of the draft outside of the Top 10. They’ll be pleased…but will their fans be? 12. Miami Dolphins – Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama Could start and be a difference maker for the fins on day one. 13. San Francisco 49ers – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma Fills a need and could make a big difference right away opposite Joe Staley. The 49ers could have one of the best OT combinations in years to come. 14. Seattle Seahawks – Derrick Morgan, DE, GT Great first round for the Seahawks here. They get one of the best OL and now the best 4-3 DE. 15. New York Giants – Earl Thomas, S, Texas The G-Men make a splash and opt for a competitive safety over DL help. Will help the Giants cover the middle of the field and he isn’t afraid to make a big hit. 16. San Francisco 49ers – Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida Could definitely use a hybrid pass-rusher here. 17. Tennessee Titans – Brian Price, DT, UCLA Price will help the Titans against the run right away. 18. Pittsburgh Steelers – Mike Iupati, OL, Idaho Iupati just looks like a steeler. He’s big, he’s nasty, and he’ll help in getting the Steelers running game back on track. CJ Spiller is another option here. 19. Atlanta Falcons – Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas Similar to his former teammate, Orakpo, Kindle will help right away in getting to the QB on 3rd and long. 20. Houston Texans – CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson Houston bites and takes the best RB in the draft. Although it can be argued that they should go after a DL, they decide it’d be best to solidify their offense with a quick, play-making RB. 21. Cincinnati Bengals – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma If you saw Hard Knocks on HBO this year, you’d know the Bengals were limited at TE and their rookie, Chase Coffman, was not the type of player they thought he would be. 22. New England Patriots – Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee Belichick can’t pass up on their possible replacement for Wilfork if he decides to go. Even if he doesn’t, Williams can be used as a DE to defend against the run. Brandon Graham doesn’t impress Belichick enough. 23. Green Bay Packers – Brandon Graham, OLB, Michigan The Packers may look to trade up to land one of the premier OTs in the draft, but if they stay put, there’s no point in taking one here. The Pack would be putting together one of the best linebacking corps in the NFC. 24. Philadelphia Eagles – Taylor Mays, S, USC Eagles get one of the multiple 1st round pick worthy safeties in this year’s relatively deep class. Also fills a big need. Mays will have a good enough combine. 25. Baltimore Ravens – Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida This pick may surprise a few people but Heap has certainly been on the decline. Hernandez reminds me a lot of Keller and he could help Flacco from day one. 26. Arizona Cardinals – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St. The Cards help their terrible pass defense by putting together a solid combination of corners in Wilson and DRC. 27. Dallas Cowboys – Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland The Cowboys close out a successful first round for OL by taking the last one of the day. Campbell’s got unlimited potential with his size and speed, but he is still very raw. 28. San Diego Chargers – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno St. Tough call for the Chargers here as there are 3 potential RBs to be picked (Matthews, Jonathan Dwyer and Jahvid Best). Matthews gets the nod due to his rare combination of speed, size and balance. 29. New York Jets – Jared Odrick, DT/DE, Penn State The Jets take the best DL player available. Odrick will eventually be a replacement for Douglas or Ellis…whoever lapses first. The Jets may also look at some WRs and corners here…there are a lot available. 30. Minnesota Vikings – Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers They really want Odrick at this pick and will take him if available. Instead, they’ll go with a position of need. 31. Indianapolis Colts – Kareem Jackson, CB, Michigan The Colts get a solid corner that should help out right away in nickel and dime packages. 32. New Orleans Saints – Everson Griffen, DE, USC Saints get a gifted DL (and a need). Only concern is his motor but that should change now that he’s on the Superbowl champions.
