Folk could be a good kicker again but im not so sure how he could handle the conditions. I would really hate to lose Feely he's perfect for the team and our style.
It's gonna be a blow if we lose Feely. I hope we don't. Anyone know if he'd like to re-sign with us? I always thought he enjoyed playing in New York. Back to Folk, not really a fan. History of kicking problems and slumps doesn't sound good when we'll need him for points in the playoffs.
It's good to try out some guys... just to know where the talent out there is. Plus remember Feely is negotiating a new contract so they have to put some pressure on his agent and not bend on their knees and start sucking...
I can see both arguments really. Letting go of Feeley to get a higher free agents, which is understandable, BUT his chemistry with the team and his consistency is irreplaceable
I was pointing out that the Jets are looking at Nick Folk not the Idea of letting Feeley go in general. Just showing the jets have some interests in exploring other possibility's. Definitely not in favor tho
Somebody check feely's twitter! Is he in favor of staying in town? or is he looking to move on? in all seriousness though Feely really is the perfect kicker for us. I can't think of a reason why Rex wouldnt want him back. The guy is a linebacker trapped in a kickers body, and he can punt in an emergency situation as he proved in a freaking play off game. Feely isnt that normal kicker who just does his job and hides in a corner... he is well liked by everyone in and out of the locker room. He deserves to stay.
Folk was a pro bowler the year before this past season. I'm well aware he had some problems with consistency this year. But it's not like he's talentless.....I'm glad the Jets are exploring other options.....you guys know Tanny's motto: "I won't leave any rocks unturned"....he's doing his job. I'm in favor of keeping Feely.....but let's try and be a little more objective when ascessing Folk's value.
well to be fair, I don't think anybody said folk sucks, we just want to keep feely. And to be brutally honest here, the kickers job is to be consistent. If we can't count on him to make kicks what the hell is he here for? Any kicker with recent consistency questions worries me. But like you said, this is what Tanny is famous for, and what makes him one of the best GM's in the league. He goes anywhere and everywhere to bring the best talent possible to NY, and thats a big reason why we all love him. He can search all he wants, just as far as I am concerned, he won't find a more perfect kicker for this team than Jay Feely.
well...to be fair...Feely wasn't always "automatic" either. Like i stated in an earlier post, I want to keep Feely...because he proved his worth to this team and deserves his roster spot. Folk is no slouch either...he was in a funk last year, nobody is denying that...but i still remember when he blasted that 53 yarder on MNF in Buffalo....twice (the timeout was called during the first kick)...for the win in 2007. He was a rookie that year. We all know the pitfalls of FG attempts in Orchard Park. So Folk certainly has potential.
I don't care who we try out, we just better not sign him. Folk was terrible in Dallas. He was terrible on kickoffs and fgs. He was terrible in practices as well. He was a pro bowler but hasn't been consistent after that. I want to keep Feely.
No feely wasn't automatic, but he was more so than a hell of a lot of the kickers this year. Sure Folk has potential, but you go through a whole season of kicking so poorly and it goes to your head. kicking is probably 90% mental anyways so if your head is fucked up it sure isnt easy to get it back on straight. The yips is a great description of whats wrong with Folk at the moment. But really we are pretty much arguing about nothing arent we? We both agree we want Feely back, and we both agree what tanny is doing in turning over every rock is not only his job, but why he is so damn good at it.
you're right...there is no argument. my point is....if Tanny did the unthinkable and decided to let Feely go....and sign Folk. I wouldn't be jumping off the nearest bridge before giving Folk a chance. If any kicker should be considered "damaged goods" right now...it's Nate "wide right" Kaeding.
Feely said he would like to finish his career on the Jets according to his twitter at some point during the season. He definitely likes the Jets
true... I knew we were screwed when Stover hit his first kick against us in Indy. That was a big reason why we won both playoff games is that somehow we managed to get kickers to miss every attempt against us in the postseason up to that point... But yeah Kaeding has issue kicking against NY in the postseason...
After all the people who flamed me in my other Feely thread. MWAHAHAHA. that said Folk is not the guy I wanted =( If we get him crap is all i can say
Correct me if I am wrong, but your point was to cut Feely to see if we could get a more important position player. Cutting Feely for another kicker is not really what you were suggesting
