I must say that watching the Mets these past few seasons has really lessened my interest in baseball and focused it much more intensely on football. I used to LOVEEE baseball. but yeah, the Mets are a fucking joke, this team has no direction or strategic plan for now or the future. Jerry Manuel has always been a shitty to mediocre manager and Omar Minaya has tried to make the team into the Latin American All-Star team. the only problem is they suck. Daniel Murphy sucks, so we won't get any production out of 1B this year unless Carter or Jacobs can provide a flash in the pan. who the fuck is going to play catcher? hopefully Thole can turn into something nice, he looked decent last year. The pitching staff consists of Santana and then larry, moe and curly. I'd be much more confident with Livan Hernandez than John Maine or Oliver Perez, because they both are pussies and they suck at playing the game of baseball. My man Beltran is out to start the season and something tells me he'll be dealing with injury issues all season. Manuel better make the right move and play Pagan primarily because that man can BALL. If that fucker Gary Matthews starts getting too much attention im going to be pissed. i can see the OF being a disaster this year. Bay and Francour will hold their own and be solid. I can go on and on about topics like the bullpen, who still have not found a reliable LOOG and ROOG since Darren Oliver and Chad Bradford left WHICH WAS A HUGE FUCKING MISTAKE ON OMAR'S PART. hopefully the china-men off the street the Mets have signed will turn into something decent. history tells me they wont tho and we'll have a collection of Mr. Koo's. I do think however that D Wright and Jose Reyes will return to superstar form, but overall the team will still find a way to suck massive dick this year, whether it be by piss poor defense and baserunning, shitty managing of the rotation and bullpen, or just typical mickey-mouse New York Mets baseball. /end rant. Can't wait 'til training camp.
Our bullpen is definetly Omar's fault but to say that Jerry Manuel is a bad manager is just retarded. He won AL manager of the year when the white sox won the world series.
They're not going to suck, but they're not going to be a playoff team either. Besides the Billy Wagner debacle, the Mets haven't really done anything that puts their future in danger. Anyway, a few positives The bullpen has a lot of high upside guys in Everts, Escobar, and Igarashi. At their worst, none is appreciably more awful than Brian Stokes, Tim Redding, Pat Misch, Lance Broadway, etc. The Mets didn't sign Bengie Molina The Mets didn't "lock up" Jeff Francouer The Mets didn't give bloated contracts to guys like Placido Polanco and Randy Wolf. The Mets pick 7th in the upcoming draft If they suck something awful, Omar and Jerry get fired. -X-
That's the best thing we can hope for. Actually the Wilpon's selling the team would be the best thing to happen to the Mets. They almost want to have a competitive team. They suck -> no big FA's besides Bay. So they really don't want to improve this team. Roboz - I've been screaming and ranting about the Chad Bradford deal since it went down. I can't believe they let him walk for $400k difference vs what the Ore's were offering. We would have had a sick bullpen with him and if Duaner didn't decide to go party in Miami. When they fired Willie on the west coast, that's when I realized I could do a better job managing this team than Omar, and I know nothing about managing a baseball team. Not that Willie was a great manager, but he's still an icon in NYC area. At least let him finish out the season. What a waste. I'm with you - when does TC start? FA on Feb 25th, March 5th for end of CBA. Draft on April 22nd. That's all I have to look forward to cause pitchers and catcher reporting means nothing to me as a Mets fan.
Dude I agree, the Mets will be awful this season. I'm a huge fan, they probably have the worst GM/Manager combo in baseball, the worst training staff and the worst pitching staff in the league. THey're going to be in big trouble this season, I see 80 wins at best.
John Lackey wasn't coming to the Mets when he had Boston as an opportunity. The Mets are not a reputable franchise and adding Lackey wouldn't have guaranteed them anything. It was Lackey or Bay, and Bay does more to address their troubles than Lackey. Aside from that, the rest of the guys available were the kinds of guys the Mets usually bought high on, with disastrous results. Piniero, Wolf, etc. We've been down that road before. I think the Mets greatest success was their lack of free agent signings. The Mets will always go for the press conference as long as their fan base is impressed by the press conference. The only signings I can really kill the Mets on are Felipe Lopez and Kiko Calero, two above average players currently without teams. But no one else has signed either of them, so they kind of get a pass on that too. -X-
Ummm WTF? Jerry Manuel, who led a young Chicago White Sox squad to the best record in the American League, was recently voted the Associated Press Manager of the Year. Manuel, 46, who slides into his fourth season of managing the White Sox next year, received 27 votes in nationwide balloting by writers and broadcasters. "It's quite an honor, being in the big leagues in the position of manager for three years," said Manuel, who was also named AL (American League) Manager?
When Willie left after half a season we were 500. At the end of the year even though we blew it again atleast our record was well over 500.
I thought Willie was awful. I think Cliff Floyd echoed how bad Willie was the other day, when he was on the FAN and said Willie sent him in to try and hit a homer when all the Mets needed was a bunt. He had absolutely no idea how to use a bullpen. He was a nice guy, and the way he was fired was disgraceful, but he needed to go. -X-
Yea the guy definetly needed to go and the way they fired him was rediculous. 1 game into a west coast road trip and after a victory lol. I didnt hear that from Cliff either thats just ridiculous.
I used to buy the MLB package on the internet and watch every MET game I could, but the past year or two, they have sucked so bad, and I can't see anything they've done this year to make it any better....it's sad, cause I really enjoy baseball, and I'm not gonna root for the Yankees, or the rays(where I live), so the season is a lost cause for me........
Bingo... nice guy but terrible manager. I was at that game in Anaheim when he was fired and the following night was at the game when Santana got rocked.
