I personally think that Slot receivers are now worthy of second round grades. They are sometimes the most productives and clutch players on the field. I think we should use our first round pick on a cornerback i.e Wilson or Ghee, and get shipley with our second rounder. Shipley would be a nice addition to our offense and would develop right along with sanchez. He could potentally be our go to guy on third downs. I also think Tanny and rex would package our 5th 6th and 7th to trade up and get a nice pass rushing defensive end in the second round also. I would love to see us get Jerry Hughes if he is still avalible. We all know if there are 2 players in the second round that rex and tanny love, were not just gonna sit back and let someone else take em.
Jordan Shipley isn't a second round receiver - not even close right now. No one wants to draft a smallish, fragile, 25 year old rookie receiver in the second round. It would be incredibly stupid to trade three picks in a loaded draft. I'm not as high on Jerry Hughes as a lot of other people. I think he'll struggle against NFL linemen.
yea hes not a second round wr. if hes the guy the jets are targeting they could trade down in rd 2 and get more picks, he'll be there later leon and keller should be able to handle the slot for us next year, allowing us to get a slot wr late or an udfa and develop him for a year i dont want us to reach just cause its a sexy position of need ... bpa at any of the positions of need (dl, g, ot, wr, olb, s) is the best strategy
Right now as everyone on here knows, we have 2 solid Wrs, a jack of all trades WR, a special teams ace as a WR, and a tall speedy young WR I can see adding someone to the practice squad or something but I don't think WR is much of a need at all until Clowney is no longer a serviceable option, because he's really the only one we could afford to lose Also with Leon healthy again, with Green's emergence and Smith's ability to run the gimmick offense, Using Leon in the slot would help him get his touches. Finally as has been mentioned our TE is basically a receiver whom our young QB has a lot of trust in our 1st 2 picks should be a CB (I'm hoping Kyle Wilson) and depending on who's left, someone for the front 7 or hell another CB
jerry hughes is one of the best pure pass rushers in this draft, in that capacity i think he could do really well. Wouldn't mind picking him up
You remember Jason Babin out of Western Michigan? That's who Jerry Hughes reminds me of. Babin had ridiculous production and was the best defensive player in a mid-major conference, much like Hughes. However, once he got to the NFL, he couldn't make a smooth transition from 4-3 end to 3-4 outside linebacker. Babin struggled horribly and has played on four teams in six NFL seasons. I think Hughes will face similar problems in the NFL. I think he'll have trouble taking on NFL linemen, and I don't know if he'll be able to make a position switch.
Shipley is a 3rd rounder but since we don't have one I'd trade back in the 2nd and try getting him with one of the picks if we don't go for Tate in the 1st round. Jerry Hughes is a favorite of mind in the draft but I don't see him falling out of the late 1st round
I opened this thread, and saw a massive block of text, no one wants to read that. Shipley has a name people know, that's about it. He is not worth a 2nd round pick.
Alot of people are trying to find the next Wes Welker, give it up. Welker is an incredible talent, they don't grow on trees. Shipley is at best a mid 3 rd pick and might go in Rd 4 with injury concerns.
if the jets were to pick a wr in the second round of the draft i would rather go with mardy gilyard than shipley
A 5th, 6th, and 7th for a 2nd? Really? Lets just trade our next 10 7th round picks and move to the top 10 and get Eric Berry.
If Shipley can remain healthy, he will be a terrific slot WR for a team with a good enough QB to make the quick, accurate passes to hit him in stride. If you look at tape on this guy, the main thing that stands out is his quickness. The way he runs, he reminds me a lot like Wes Welker, in terms of foot speed.
MR E.....they're "grasping at straws"...Shipley isn't the next Welker. Sometimes the love affair for caucasian WRs is "over the top". I really think Shipley is a good receiver, but comparing him to Welker, who is on track as boderline a hall of famer is crazy. I don't connect the dots either on Welker's footspeed vs Shipley's....that's just my opiniion.
Shipley is probably the best quick route and double move route runner in the country. I suggest watching a bit more on him before you attribute the comparisons to Welker solely on race and not on abilities. I'm not saying Shipley will have as good a career as Welker, but if he remains healthy and has a good QB (like Brady), he will succeed as a slot receiver. His durability will probably land him out of the top rounds.
As TGG posters, we all know that the only white receiver that can be compares to Welker is Danny Woodhead.
