I believe Perrish Cox and Kyle Wilson will be available when we pick. I like Cox better because of size, but thats me.
Mayock has a very interesting pre-combine Top 5: 1. Haden 2. Wilson 3. McCourty 4. Patrick Robinson 5. Jerome Murphy While the first two names aren't a surprise and McCourty sort of isn't I was stunned when I read Robinson and Murphy's names instead of guys like Ghee or Warren. This just shows you how deep this CB class is!
Behind Haden, I like Cox and Robinson best for the Jets. With so many tall WRs, Wilson's height scares me a bit and I think he'll only amount to being a nickel.
You have to consider that usually the tall WR is the #1 WR ergo Revis's man... how many teams have 2 tall WRs?
I think Devin McCourty is really the most under-rated corner in this draft and he might fall to our 2nd rounder... but pre-combine and with soooo much talent it's impossible right now to predict who is going after Haden in the 1st and who will drop to the 2nd or the 3rd. B. Ghee from Wake Forest is another guy that could fall... as of now there are 8-10 CBs with day 1 (the old day 1) credentials and that's just amazing!
After reading this post, it became fairly obvious to me that you've never seen Kyle Wilson play. Kyle Wilson is 5'10...Darrelle Revis is 5'11. Big difference. (Patrick Robinson's 5'11 as well) Patrick "Toast" Robinson is one of the more overrated defenders being considered right now. I think he'll end up as a nickel or a dime...Watch the highlights from the Miami-FSU game this year, and tell me how Robinson does against tall receivers.
I think one of the two will be available, if not both players. I prefer Wilson, by a slim margin. I may be wrong, but I don't see many teams in Rd 1 drafting CB, except the Browns, Texans (CB or S)& maybe the Falcons. The Jets should have a shot a KW & Cox. The depth of this draft is pushing quality players down the board.
Kyle Wilson vs #1 WRs Kyle Wilson vs #1 WRs Oregon - J. Maehl 5rec 45yds Miami (OH) - A. Robinson 5 54 Fresno St. - S. Ajirotutu 2 27 Bowling Green - F. Barnes 4 24 UC Davis - C. Kerley 6 65 Obviously, this looks pretty good, but one has to take this with a large grain of salt as none of these "#1 WRs" are legitimate NFL prospects (except for Salas who will probably be a mid round pick next year).
Yes, I've seen him play against sub-par competition. About 75% of the "plays" he has made as a corner can be attributed to either terrible passes or bad routes.
...sub par competition? I don't know if I'd call TCU, Nevada, Fresno State, Hawaii, and Oregon sub-par. I guess all of the plays he made during Senior Bowl week, against the best seniors in all of college football, can be attributed to bad throws and poor route running?
Bowling Green's Freddie Barnes was one of the best receivers in all of college football. Also, Fresno's Seyi Ajirotutu has NFL potential. He got a great combination of size and speed. He'll get a chance to improve his stock at this month's combine.
Is it Kyle Wilson's fault that no one wants to put Boise State on their schedule? No, it's not. At the Senior Bowl, this kid proved himself to the entire football world. He's arguably the second best corner in this draft. I want you to explain to me how Freddie Barnes isn't a pro prospect?
Okay, so I missed one, but what about the other 10? Who will be in the NFL in 5 years out of that group?
And Seyi Ajirotutu, if drafted, would be more of a project than a contributor because of his size and athleticism. He didn't put it together in college.
C'mon man, you're trying to tell me about Fresno State football. He didn't put it together in college? You don't know what you're talking about. The Dogs have had inconsistent quarterback play over the last couple of years. Our offense lives and dies with the running game. I really believe Pat Hill would elect run the ball on every play if he could. Catching 40 plus passes in their offense for two consecutive seasons is pretty good production. Aji's got experience in a pro-style offense, and he's big and fast. What's not to like?
Mel Kiper's latest Mock... New York Jets Record: 9-7 Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers The Jets could use some receiving help for Mark Sanchez here as well, but McCourty is a guy whose stock could skyrocket if he runs the way many think he will. The Jets can get exposed when passers throw away from Darrelle Revis, and McCourty could be the answer on the other side.
