I can't say I'm too surprised. It'll be interesting to see who needs an aging MLB coming off a serious injury. He'll likely get more looks than he should with FA this year. Let's start the countdown to some clueless poster suggesting we should take a look at him...
He's 32 and is coming off a serious injury which could very well nag him. They're not going to take a chance with $5 million in new money heading his way. Some team will take the chance and if he recovers well, he'll give them a few good seasons.
I dunno about a few. Pierce is smart and can lead a defense very well. He's good against the run and is a decent blitzer (when he can read the blocking assignments). He was never even decent in coverage and now he's a liability in it. He was 1 good year in him. 2 if he's used as a 2 down LB.
He was awesome back when he was good. Doubly satisfying that we took him from the Redskins. That's the NFL for you though. Over the hill at 32. Next.
I doubt anyone's going to use him as a full time starter at this point. I was figuring 2 - 3 seasons as a situational MLB. Of course, that's contingent upon him making a full recovery.
He's pretty close to being done. The Giants are pretty good at finding MLBs in their prime and dumping them on the down turn, they did it with Mike Barrow and now with Pierce. The Giants aren't really the team to make huge splashes in the draft, but if McClain falls to around 10 I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a move. Or, just sit at 15 and take Weatherspoon, even if he's an outside guy by trade.
He'd be a 3rd stringer on this team at best. We are set at ILB and I don't think he be good at OLB in the 3-4.
