I'll try to get a write up on Ogho out on Wednesday. I'm trying to use an offensive and defensive player each time, so I'll try to get to Brandon Lang by sometime next week.

    February 10th, 2010:

Jeff Byers, Offensive Guard, Southern California

    Height: 6'3

    Weight: 299

    Projected 40 time: 5.20

    Projected Round: 4th to 5th

    Prospect Comparison: Brad Meester

    Positives:

    - Versatility

    - Athleticism

    - Smart

    - Experienced in pro-style offense

    - Work Ethic

    Negatives:

    - Injuries

    - Durability

    - Lack of bulk

    - Has to get stronger

    - Maxed out frame?

Jets?: The Jets have to get younger on the offensive line, and Byers is versatile lineman that can provide solid depth at guard and center. He's an incredibly smart lineman, but his once promising career became tarnished after suffering injuries early on. If Byers stayed healthy his entire career, he would have been a four year starter for one of the best college programs in the nation.

    Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Cornerback, IUP

    Height: 6'1

    Weight: 205

2009 Statistics: 27 total tackles, 2 INTs, 10 forced incompletions, 3 PR TDs, and 2 KR TDs

    Projected 40 time: 4.42

    Projected Round: 3rd or 4th

    Prospect Comparison: Danieal Manning

    Positives:

    - Long arms

    - Excellent return specialist

    - Speed

    - Versatility

    - Recovery Quickness

    Negatives:

    - Run support

    - Tackling

    - Lack of competition

    - Tweener: cornerback or safety?

    - Hands

Jets?: After our playoff loss the Colts, we all heard the reports that Donald Strickland and Lito Sheppard probably won't be back with the Jets. Losing two corners, and hopefully a certain big-mouthed safety, will leave us very thin in the secondary. AOA is one of the most talented return men that I've seen in a long time, and I've only seen him twice...on Sportscenter. Also, he's been absolutely dominant at defensive back for IUP. If we're able to land this kid in the middle rounds, it should be a no-brainer.

I assume when you say Byers is experienced in a pro style of offense that is supposed to be a positive not a negative, right?

I fixed that - I got mixed up. I've been using the same template for these things, and I just assumed I was still on positives...

Nice work E. For someone like me who is not knowledgeable about college prospects this really helps to educate me. Even if I can't make a worthwhile post, at least I can understand what everyone else is talking about.

    Thanks.

The whole point of this thread was to inform the uninformed, so I'm glad you're getting something out of this thread. Thanks for the props, foz.

I'll definitely get to Taylor Price before the combine. Right now, I'm working on putting out two more prospects by either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Today is Barry Church's birthday (SS out of Toledo). He is 6'2", 220lbs and a 4 x All MAC 1st Team player. You should spotlight him. I could see this as the 5th round pick for the NYJ.

    I like Barry Church...and I'm glad it's his birthday...but I don't see him fitting on the Jets.

To me, Church is one of the biggest 'tweeners in this draft, and I think he'll end up at linebacker.

If Church ended up the Jets, he'd play a role a lot similar to James Ihedigbo, who I'm pretty high on. I don't really see the need to replace J-Dig with another role player.

The kid can flat out play and he's proved that at Toledo, but I don't see a reason for the Jets to draft him...

    February 13th, 2010:

Matt Tennant, Offensive Lineman, Boston College

    Height: 6'4

    Weight: 290

    Projected 40 time: 5.08

    Projected Round: 4th or 5th

    Prospect Comparison: Pete Kendall

    Positives:

    - Team Leader

    - Plays with a mean streak

    - Athleticism

    - Experience

    - Durability

    Negatives:

    - Strength

    - Run blocking

    - Position switch?

    - Leverage

    - Needs to get heavier

Jets?: Our offensive line is one of the best units in the NFL, but it can't stay that way forever...Eventually, Alan Faneca and Damien Woody have to replaced. In my opinion, Tennant, who played center at BC, can make a smooth transition to guard or right tackle. I don't think he'll ever be a Pro Bowl player, but he's definitely talented enough to start and get his job done.

John Fletcher, 3-4 Defensive End, Wyoming

    Height: 6'6

    Weight: 275

    2009 Statistics: 52 total tackles, 12.5 TFLs, 7 sacks, 3 blocked kicks

    Projected 40 time: 4.80

    Projected Round: 6th or 7th

    Prospect Comparison: Brett Keisel

    Positives:

    - Frame

    - Height

    - Long Arms

    - Work Ethic

    - High Motor

    Negatives:

    - Inconsistent

    - Lack of Athleticism

    - Versatility

    - Has to get heavier

    - Sometimes plays too high

Jets?: Let's face it: our defensive line is old. Mike DeVito and Ropati Pitoitua are the only defensive linemen on our roster under 30 years old. Now is the time to begin rebuilding this defensive line. With limited picks, the Jets may choose to go after a defensive back and a wideout early in this draft. Fletcher is a big time sleeper right now - if he lasts into the 6th round, I hope the Jets target him.

    February 16th, 2010:

Seyi Ajirotutu, Wide Receiver, Fresno State

    Height: 6'4

    Weight: 212

    2009 Statistics:49 receptions for 677 yards and 7 TDs

    Projected 40 time: 4.50

    Projected Round: 4th or 5th

    Prospect Comparison: Vincent Jackson

    Positives:

    - Experience in pro-style offense

    - Tall

    - Long arms

    - Deep threat

    - Soft hands

    Negatives:

    - Not a slot receiver

    - Developmental

    - Route running

    - Plays too high

    - Lacks quickness

Jets?: You guys know I have to throw a Fresno State player into this thread. This team is clearly thin at receiver, and while I believe the biggest need at the position is in the slot, Aji could be too good to pass up if he's there late. Braylon Edwards has to earn his contract next year. He will not be brought back if he continues to drop passes. At the Shrine Game, former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer compared Aji to Vincent Jackson...and also said that Aji was the best receiver on the West's team.

Jarvis Geathers, 3-4 Outside Linebacker, Central Florida

    Height: 6'2

    Weight: 238

    2009 Statistics: 29 total tackles, 13.5 TFLs, 11 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

    Projected 40 time: 4.65

    Projected Round: 6th or 7th

    Prospect Comparison: Antwan Barnes

    Positives:

    - Versatility

    - Quickness

    - High motor

    - Frame

    - Productive in a limited role

    Negatives:

    - Weight

    - Height

    - Inexperience

    - Developmental

    - Lack of coverage skills?

Jets?: The Jets have to find at least one player this off-season that can get after the quarterback. If the FO decides to go in another direction early in this draft, then Geathers should definitely be considered in the later rounds. He's the son of Jumpy Geathers, so playing this game is in his blood.

Yeah...I'll try to post something early tomorrow. (...going out for St. Patty's day tonight)

I've actually met Roberts. Nice, clean cut guy.

Actually, if you guys give me a few days, I can try get some great information on him from his old high school coach. He's now the head coach at my little brother's old high school in Charleston.

I'm here to learn more from you so any player you think may land in the Jets lap or you think this team can pick up would be great. I'd hate to be watching the TV in the later rounds and not have a clue whats going on.

We're looking to you and the other knowledgeable posters to edumacate us!

I love him for the slot and actually mocked him to the Jets in RD 6 not too long ago, but his recent 4.39 at his pro day along with an impressive overall workout probably catipults him into the middle rounds .. maybe RD 4

Reason it catipults him is because its not just the workout .. its the numbers too .. as you pointed out, E, this was a highly productive player who put up some huge numbers, adds value as a return man as well, and now the workout and 40 time only serve to further validate the production

At this point the Jets might be fortunate if he's still there for them with that late 4

If they don't take a blue chip WR early, I think they would love a SWR like Sanders or Antonio Brown to fall to them in RD 4

Anyway, this was a really good call on your part
