WW85's ROUND 1 Feb Mock draft My Feb mock draft with brief explanations. Almost impossible to fill the needs of all 32 teams. 1) ST. LOUIS RAMS - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska...best player in the draft. 2) DETROIT LIONS - Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma...Wanted Suh..takes McCoy. 3) TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee......another team that needs help in multiple positions....BPA 4) WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma.....Reliable sources tell me Mike Shanahan is in love with Bradford. 5) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama......KC gets their defensive leader. 6) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St........Seattle may go QB, but their O-Line needs help badly. I get the feeling Petey boy isn't a Clausen fan. 7) CLEVELAND BROWNS -Joe Haden, CB, Florida....BPA that fills a huge need. Brown's defense needs an entire face-lift. 8) OAKLAND RAIDERS - Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers.......Al gets a O-Lineman the has great physical ability...Oakland Raider type player. Raider O-line has been neglected for some time. 9) BUFFALO BILLS - Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame...Bills get very lucky a great QB falls. 10) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech....Jax needs a DE with some pass rush ability. 11) DENVER BRONCOS - Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee......Williams on the rise. Good fit in Denver's system. 12) MIAMI DOLPHINS - Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St......I think Miami should go defense, but Bryant is too good to pass. 13) SAN FRANCISCO FORTYNINERS - Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan.......Niner's secondary is a huge ? 14) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson....a RB/all -purpose...is a big need. 15) NEW YORK GIANTS - Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida....a slight reach, but Spikes would be a good fit with the G-men. 16) TENNESSEE TITANS - Everson Griffen, DE, USC.....DE with a lot of physical skills. 17) SAN FRANCISCO FORTYNINERS - Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa.....upgrade the O-line. 18) PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho....BPA is the Steeler's motto. 19) HOUSTON TEXANS - Earl Thomas, S, Texas....Texans' are thrilled Earl form the home state is available. 20) ATLANTA FALCONS - Perrish Cox, CB, Oklhoma St....CB a need and Cox can return kicks too. 21) CINCINNATI BENGALS - Damian Williams, WR, USC.....good fit with Carson. 22) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan...Pat's upgrade their defense in Rd 1 big time. 23) GREEN BAY PACKERS - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryand...Rogers needs to stay upright. 24) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida....Andy likes drafting D-line. 25) BALTIMORE RAVENS - Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame...lack of depth. 26) ARIZONA CARDINALS - Sergio Kindle, DE/OLB, Texas...defense, defense, defense 27) DALLAS COWBOYS - Jason Pierre-Paul, DE/OLB, USF...Jerry's type of player. O-Line addressed later. 28) SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - Vladimir Duccasse, OG/T, U Mass...needs RT help. 29) NEW YORK JETS - Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St....CB/punter returner all in one. Jet's CB situation (Lito & Strickland) very uncertain. 30) MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Taylor Mays, S, USC....Minny could go in a few directions, but upgrading the secondary is a need. 31) INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Jared Odrick, DT, Penn St...interior line needs a good addition. 32) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS -Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri..The rich get richer!!! Perfect fit and need. Comments Welcome.
Good stuff, WW... I really like a lot of these picks...especially Vlad Ducasse to the Chargers, Kyle Wilson to the Jets, Sean Weatherspoon to the Saints, and Brandon Graham to the Pats. I can't wait for the combine at the end of the month - things will really start to take shape.
Appreciate it... E. A few picks are a little different: Oakland taking O-Line...Al likes his last name Dallas...JPP...it makes sense if you think about Dallas' defense. G-men...Spikes...a need..but a little early.
If Al Davis actually makes a smart draft choice, the world will probably end. I'm not so sure the Cowboys will draft a pass rusher, with DeMarcus Ware receiving BIG money and Anthony Spencer playing on the other side. They also got a hell of a value pick in Victor Butler in last year's draft. At that point in the draft though, JPP would be BPA. I can't see the Cowboys passing on Taylor Mays - they need safety help. Watch out for Weatherspoon ending up with the Giants. If he runs a fast 40 for a LB, he'll be a highly coveted player for 4-3 teams.
Great job WW, everything here makes sense...this is probably the best one I've seen so far. Your your top 15 is very similar to mine, and I love getting Wilson. It sucks to say, but I just see Graham going to the Pats.
You're right on...624!! I just hope Graham gets drafted before the Pats get a chance. After Haden, I believe Kyle Wilson is the best fit for the Jets at available CBs. The local NJ kid coming home would be a nice story. Also, maybe Rex wants a ride in Kyle's motorhome
The only pick I didn't like was Spikes to the Giants, they could probably get him in the second round. Overall though, it was very good and every pick made sense.
Thanks DAFB!! My third Rd 1 mock...a lot of trial and error. I agree Spikes is a slight reach.....lets' see how the combine shakes out.
Supports my pick of Rolando McClain to Kansas City: Chiefs waive two linebackers Posted by Evan Silva on February 8, 2010 6:43 PM ET The Chiefs announced Monday that they have waived two linebackers who finished the 2009 season on injured reserve. Outside linebacker Justin Rogers, who was on and off the 53-man roster all season, is mostly a special teamer. Inside linebacker Weston Dacus, who didn't play a down in '09 after being waived/injured in August, is better fit to be a backup for a 4-3 system. The Chiefs installed a 3-4 scheme last year. Kansas City enters the offseason with just three outside linebackers under control for 2010: Tamba Hali, Andy Studebaker, and 2009 undrafted rookie Pierre Walters. Many of the team's former outside 'backers, including Demorrio Williams, were converted inside when the Chiefs switched schemes.
Wouldn't McClain play inside linebacker for the Chiefs? Kansas City's not bringing back Mike Vrabel after they traded for him? That would be incredibly stupid. Moving out of the 4-3 defense with their personnel was a mistake. Glen Dorsey and Tamba Hali are worthless picks now. I've got a close friend that's a Chiefs fan, and he desperately wants them to trade back - they are spending so much money on top draft picks. Andy Studebaker actually looks like a decent linebacker - he was great in coverage last season. Corey Mays was pretty good inside too. I think the only important linebacker they'll get rid of is Derrick Johnson, because he doesn't fit the scheme. The two guys they cut today were practice squad guys. Getting rid of Johnson would leave a hole at inside linebacker - a hole that Rolando McClain would quickly fill in.
That entire team is in shambles. They really could go in multiple directions in this draft... The Chiefs need help on the offensive line, at receiver, at corner, at linebacker, at nose tackle, and at safety...wow, they're bad.
I was the KC GM in our 3 rounder and was hoping Berry would fall. When St. Louis didn't go QB...it was all over.
Good stuff, Its hard to go with whoever you pick in the first round but. I disagree with Suh going one over all, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that he is the best player in the draft but. Clausen is very pro ready, it is rare that a DT goes one overall, and the value of a QB is higher than that of a DT Also I disagree with the Chiefs pick, I know that article supports your theory but the only think more important than a QB, at least on offense, is protecting the QB. In addition, I disagree with the Sergio Kindle pick, if they did go in that direction I would say Jerry Hughes is more likely. Or they could go O-line
In regard to Taylor Mays... I think 30 is the lowest I've seen him taken in any mock draft. My question... If Taylor Mays, a guy mainly touted for his "measurables" (size, speed) tanks at his pro day and at the scouting combine, what is his floor? How deep into the second round could he drop?
If he has a horrible combine, and all of the other second/third round safeties have good combines, then I could see him falling out of the second - but that more than likely won't happen. If he struggles in agility drills at the combine, which I doubt he will, some teams might see him as a 4-3 linebacker.
Why does everyone have Bryant out of the top 5 here? What's your reasons WW? Bryant's easily a top 5 player in this draft IMO.... Sleeper is the Chiefs at 5. Todd Haley coached Fitzgerald and Boldin, and knows that this is a passing league. Bryant and Bowe? That'd be sick.
