Kudo's to Green Hurricane...exactly right in our 3 Rd Mock. Makes alot of sense......I think Rolando McClain could be a possibility too!! Article below: Report: Browns high on Joe Haden Posted by Evan Silva on February 8, 2010 12:19 PM ET According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns find Florida cornerback Joe Haden to be a "very attractive" draft prospect and are expected to make upgrading their secondary a priority this offseason. The Browns reportedly believe they have just two starting-caliber defensive backs on the roster: left corner Eric Wright and strong safety Abram Elam. Brandon McDonald and Mike Adams, who both saw starts at right cornerback last year, are considered replaceable. McDonald is a poor tackler, while Adams lacks elite physical attributes. Incumbent free safety Brodney Pool's NFL future is up in the air due to concussions. Haden was the best cover corner in all of college football last year and has drawn comparisons to Darrelle Revis because he can tackle and make plays on the ball as well as shut down No. 1 receivers. The Browns choose No. 7 overall this April.
Yeah, I really believe the only way that Haden to Cleveland doesn't happen is if he goes before #7. It makes too much sense for them, as a 1-2 punch of Haden and Wright could honestly be one of the best in the league within the span or only 3 or so years.
I think they take him or Bryant if he falls out of the top 5. Their offense could really use some help.
They averaged 25 points a game the last 5 weeks of the season, and while I'm not putting too much stock in their late season surge, I think if it's between the best defensive player on the board or best offensive player, I think they go defense.
Their offense sucks balls. Besides for their OL and Massoquio...Cribbs too...what else is there on offense?
The entire team sucks ball, but the defense is a lot worse. Looking at their roster, they really need help in the secondary. Jerome Harrison is a very, very underrated running back. He was damn good towards the end of the season. The Browns drafted Muhammed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie last season. Mo-Mass was obviously the better of the two, but they're banking on Robiskie's development.
Exactly, in theory the team at WR has Robiske, Massaquoi, Stuckey and Cribbs. We're not talking the Saints offensive weapons here, but it's enough where I don't see Bryant being on their radar unless 5 of the first 6 picks are Suh, McCoy, Berry, Haden, and McClain.
None of those guys they have on offense touches Bryant, and I believe Bryant is that much better at WR compared to other WRs. I also believe Bryant is one of the 5 best players in this draft, regardless of position. What's the gap between say...Haden and Wilson? Haden and Ghee? Haden and Perrish Cox? Either way, I do agree that the Browns pick comes down between Bryant, Haden, or McClain. If Mangini's lucky someone or two will grab a QB and let Berry fall to him.
I think the opposite of Bryant and Haden vs. their peers. Bryant is a damn fine wide receiver prospect, but he's not elite to me, not at that Andre/Calvin type level as a prospect. He's my #1 rated wide receiver too, but he's not so far ahead of the #2 guy or the early 2nd round guys that I'd call him a must pick at #7. Joe Haden on the other hand, in my mind, is a top of the line corner prospect, maybe the best in the past five or so years (and that's including Darrelle Revis' draft class). He blows away all the others at the position, so much so that I think there are some guys being undervalued because of how much better he is. This is coming from someone that really, REALLY likes Perrish Cox. If I were to rank them overall right now, he's fourth behind only the monsters, Suh, Berry, and McCoy. Plus, when I look at the Browns and these two players specifically, they need Haden more than they do Bryant. They have two young, tall, speedy receivers in Massaquoi and Robiskie, Bryant would add talent, but I'm not sure what his game adds to the mix. If anything, it would just take one of them off the field, with Stuckey as the 3rd receiver (if Robiskie were to win a starting job*). With Haden, they move everyone down a notch on the CB rankings, McDonald becomes a solid nickle guy, where he belongs and Eric Wright moves from a quality, borderline #1 type to a very good #2.
Ah, this is where I disagree. I think Bryant is by far the best WR in this class, and one of the top 5 players in it. I think he's on par with Crabtree, except bigger and stronger, and he's the best WR prospect since CJ. Put it this way...if Bryant were to come out next year with that loaded class of WRs I'd still probably have him in the top 3 amongst them. I like Jonathan Baldwin and Green because they're both just bigger. Dude's a beast...I think he's the closest I've seen to an Andre Johnson clone...only difference is that I'm not sure he's as quiet as Johnson. Agreed that Haden is a high end corner prospect, but corners are overrated. I'd rather have the guy who is a threat to score anytime he has the ball. I do think he stands out amongst the corner prospects, but I think the dropoff corner to corner isn't that huge. Also, Robiskie's a stiff...he'll be a solid WR in time but his upside would not stop them from taking an obvious #1 on an offense that is lacking explosive weapons. They're both possibilities...but if I were Mangini I'd give the offense the boost it needs, especially since I doubt they go QB. Give Quinn some weapons...all they've really got is Mass and Harrison.
Fine...Crabtree...still a sick WR that's worthy of a top 5 pick...and like I said, he's bigger, stronger, and probably faster than Crabtree.
I've always thought that Crabtree was incredibly overrated. It's a pretty decent comparison though. When I watch him play, he reminds me of a stronger Sidney Rice. He's just one of those wideouts that goes up for a ball and comes down with it - a great jump ball receiver. I like Dez Bryant, but he's a poor route runner, and that could hurt his production early on. I don't think he'll get past the Dolphins.
Unfortunately, he's not. He was as advertised when he started playing... Route running on a prospect like Bryant is like the "can he catch" thing that Tomlinson had out of TCU. He can do it, but since there HAS to be something wrong with him and everyone knows that suspension was bullshit route running is being picked on. He gets open, and he makes plays. He'll come on as a pro quicker than Sidney Rice. He's just a plain better WR for his age...
As advertised? He scored twice...two touchdowns by a self-proclaimed touchdown machine. Crab still had problems with drops and he was invisible in a lot of games. He's only been in the league in one year. I'll admit I was wrong if he becomes a consistent 1,000 yard receiver for the next three seasons. He gets open because he plays in a gimmick offense. The kid runs option routes on almost every play. You make it seem like he's the perfect player, when he's clearly not - in 2011, he'd be behind AJ Green, Mike Floyd, and Julio Jones...possibly James Baldwin too. Sidney Rice shouldn't have left early. He just wanted the first round money, and he ended up slipping into the second round. His struggles in Minnesota had nothing to do with talent, they've had horrible QB play there, and he just lacked confidence. Favre really brought out the best in him.
He caught at least 3 passes in every game his rookie year once he started playing. The guy showed hands of glue. I'm someone who didn't buy the Crabtree hype. And no, you won't. No., he gets open because he's really good. I also think he'd be ahead of both Floyd and Jones. Better, more fluid athlete than both, with similar size. Bryant is way ahead of Rice as far as polish and confidence coming out. His mentality is why I think so highly of him as a WR. Every single time I came across a Dez Bryant article...not often, but whatever...there'd be a mention of how he spent all his time training for the draft. Book this guy being a big time NFL WR if he doesn't get hurt, and that's just doubtful.
3 catches, what a beast! Hands of glue? Did you watch any Niners' games? I mean he's not nearly as bad as DHB, but he's got horrible concentration problems. No 100 yard games. No game changing performances. 48 receptions and 2 TDs... This guy considers himself to be the best receiver of all-time. "Ain't nobody can cover me!" Way to be a dick for no reason. No, he gets open because he plays in an offense that exploits the shitty defenses of the Big 12. He makes plays and great catches because he's really good. The same Sidney Rice that absolutely dominated in the SEC? Polish? What are you talking about? He should spend all of his time training for the draft - it's not like he has to go to class. I never said he wasn't going to be a good receiver in the NFL, I just think it'll take a while for him to develop into one.
According to ProFootballFocus.com: Crabtree: 5 on target drops out of 82 passes. Use that as you will.
