Pennington will not be a starter again. He's beyong that now. He will not take over the locker room and there won't be any controversies. We all know it, and Penny knows it. Sanchez IS and WILL be the QB of the Jets. Besides, Pennington does not destroy locker rooms. He has great sportsmanship and can handle being benched with class. I wouldn't mind him here.
I do not want an injury prone player as our backup QB. Sorry, but that's the easiest way to not have a backup plan when things go bad, as we discovered with Fiedler when Chad went down in 2005. The one thing you have to count on your backup QB to do if he's called on is to finish the game, and then the season if necessary. Chad would not be reliable on either count.
I would not mind having someone like Chad Pennington as the backup for Mark Sanchez. He has done a lot of good things with the Jets and is a class act. The biggest problem is, like Br4dw4y5ux said, is that he is so injury prone. Chad has had 3 or 4 season ending injuries in his career. It seems like all these injuries occur on a rather routine sack. This year, it seemed like he barely got hit and landed pretty safely on the ground, but he suffered an injury that required surgery and ended his season. I would like the Jets to get rid of Kellen and bring someone else in. But if they do bring Chad back in the backup role, I really would not be upset by it.
Pennington didn't have this present line at his disposal and watching his back. Bringing him back, if possible, is a great idea.
I'm all for it but The assumption is that he'll be a 2nd string. Says who? He'd have to fight for that spot. Him being here as even a 3rd string is a +
Pennington if he is healthy enough to play is good enough to start for several NFL teams but not the Jets or the Dolphins. I can easily see him going to a team like the Raiders who are desperate for a veteran who is smart and can run a ball control O with a good defense behind him. He could start on Carolina right now and they would be a much better football team. The last thing we need is an injury prone veteran who has starting ability creating a split in our clubhouse.
Pennington doesn't fit in the Jets' plans ....as a backup or a starting QB. His tenure is done with this franchise...unless he comes back to coach someday in some capacity....I'd fully support that. There's been some rumblings that the Cardinals might be interested in him.....because nobody likes Leinart in the desert.
He makes sense as the backup. He knows the offense as well as anyone not named Brian, and if he had to step in for a game or two, he gives you better than even chance of winning.
