Well...knowing that Lito is most likely gonna get cut...as well as Strickland....and with our limited participation during FA upcoming....I can't help but lean towards selecting a CB in the first or 2nd round.....as opposed to a Wideout. It just makes more sense. If Tanny selects Tate...and leaves K.Wilson on the board with no intensions of trading up to grab him afterwards.....I'd be a little shocked, maybe even "pissed off".
First, nice mock Jabba, I know first hand how difficult it is to throw a 1st rounder together. Nice to see you having KC taking a defensive player over a OT. Some people gave me a little heat for not taking an OT. The Offensive tackles in this draft are " not elite " and not worth a top 5 pick. Some may disagree, I feel the top OT's are slightly overrated, and shouldn't be a Top 10 pick...but need will dictate where they are selected. While Haden is a good choice, I went with McClain in our mock....I feel it's a bigger need. If the BPA is Golden Tate at # 29...so be it. I really get annoyed when people say "We have to draft a DT, DE, CB etc...fill in the blank at #29. I hate dealing with absolutes when we're discussing drafting at #29 or drafting in general. Nobody knows how the draft will unfold, we can do our best to guess with the information available. Anyone who has all the answers needs to give me the Ohio Lotto winning numbers for tonight's drawing. There are no absolutes and the draft has to come to the Jets..since trading up is just about out of the question, with our lack of ammo. My small rant of the day...continue on.
That's what I was thinking too Rex already said we're going to be more balanced on offense now that Sanchez got his rookie season under his belt. He said Ground & Pound will still be our identity, but Sanchez is ready to carry more of the load. Translation: Henceforth when teams stack the box and dare us to throw, we will let Mark Sanchez accomodate them. Having that that, he needs another weapon and preferably a homerun hitter like Golden Tate. One thing is very clear, Mark Sanchez throws a beautiful deep ball, be it a GO down the sidelines or a Post Pattern, his deep throws are impeccable, so where a WR like Tate would have been wasted on a QB like Chad, he is essential for a QB like Sanchez. With Shonn Greene as a feature back, Keller at TE and three wideouts (Braylon, Cotchery and Tate) who bring different skill sets to the table, and of course behind one of the best O-lines in the league, our offense will be GOOD TO GO for our franchise QB Then I dare teams to stack the box
Cmon bro Tate? Really? theres no reason to pick a receiver so early. Id go with Wilson if hes there IMO
Just for the record I have no argument with the guys who would prefer Kyle Wilson if the board fell this way It was a very close call for me as well and I would have no problem with going the other way It definitely makes more sense strictly from a "needs" POV, and its Good value at 29 as well
- I doubt SEA is gonna invest top 10 pick money in Bradford. They need O-Line in the worst possible way and if Okung gets to them at 6, he'll get picked. I think Matt Hasselback will still get enough trust for 1 more season but I can see SEA taking a QB in say round 4 or so. I agree with them getting Spiller at 14 though, seems like a lock at this minute. - As the ND fan around here, Tate is an awesome talent. Lone thing is the route running but that will be eased in time because he can block well, and fights for the ball in all downs and also is a heck of a potential red zone threat weapon. With that said, I think CB is just a bigger need and I think Wilson would be the better fit.
I made a big mistake. I never should have had Perrish Cox being drafted ahead of Kyle Wilson in the first place, so I swapped them (25 & 32) and fixed what was obviously a big mistake. So who would you take now if Wilson was off the board? Golden Tate, Perrish Cox, Jerry Hughes or someone else?
People are limiting Tate to a "3rd" receiver or a "slot guy" on you Jabba and it shows an extremely narrow minded view. I would not worry to much about them. Tate is a game breaker. Has has very good speed and route running. He is a deep threat but runs routes good enough to be in the slot if needed. He has great hands. I would not be upset at all if we added another weapon like him. Tate is a guy that can play #3 for a few years and perhaps grow into a #1 option on our offense. That is not an awful pick at all.
i wanted to argue against tate until i read this.thats what was said about percy harvin lat year ain't it?
I have yet to see a mock draft that has Williams going in round two. If you have a beef with Williams, why don't you provide a link of two to support your case.
We should go corner or dline with our first pick. We can get a slot guy in FA. Sinorice Moss is a free agent, maybe we can put together a trade with the skins for Santana moss. Both possess the ideal size speed and skill set to play the slot position.
I agree with the pick. Tate will help Sanchez transition to a more balanced offense. I think everyone that's calling for a cb or dline with our first pick are still thinking about the Colts game. Throughout the entire season (even during the Colts game), our offense was the weakest unit on the field. We had a great rushing attack, but we scored very few points. If we successfully pass the ball more, our offense stays on the field longer and scores more points. Our defense will benefit because they won't be tired in the 4th quarter where they gave away a few games after playing spectacular for the first 3 quarters. Tate is a great pick and will help Sanchez with the transition.
Basing your selections off of other mock drafts is a mistake. Actually, I don't know the guy, so I don't have a "beef" with him. Trent Williams was exposed this season without Loadholt and Robinson on that line. He can't play left tackle, and that became even more obvious when he struggled after making the switch from the right to the left side.
At least you admit that you don't know what you are talking about. There are a lot of question marks surrounding the ranking of this year's OL class. Until the senior bowl there was speculation that Iupati could play LT in the NFL. He got embarrassed when he was given the chance to compete at that position in practice. With that being said, he is still a legitamite guard prospect in the late first or early second round. With guards and right tackles getting contracts in the $5-8 million range, getting one at the end of the first round is not a bad idea. From what I understand though Williams plated well enough that many still think that he can play LT in the NFL. I doubt he would have skipped the senior bowl if he felt that he had more to prove.
