Are you really saying that you would rather have 5'11" 248lbs than 6'7" 283lbs playing DE in a 3-4?

I'm still saying we can get him from Al Davis for cheaper.

    What?

What leverage does Carolina have to ask for that much?

They will probably not resign him anyway, so how would they get that much compensation back?

I dont think Carolina has much leverage but other teams are certainly willing to offer alot for Peppers thats why i came up with this intial trade because of the fact that it would b very tempting to Carolina

So win the bidding war plus give up picks for a guy approaching 30?

    Insane.

I could see maybe a 4th or 5th rounder, but no more than that.

I just threw out a deal that could work. I'd obviously want the Jets to get him for less. But really?? a 4th or 5th for an elite pass rusher i dont care if hes 30 he still has years of playing at a high level. At the lowest offer for Peppers id give up a 2nd and Thomas or a 2nd and 5th but other then that nothing else would work, other teams would murder us in there offers.

Peppers is not a must have for the Jets at this point. If another team wants to pony up a 1st and possibly more, let them. There is absolutely no need for the Jets to give up a lot to get this guy.

He an elite Pass Rusher in this league and with additional coaching from Rex he can do wonders for the D. I understand maybe He himself might not be the Jets "need" but they need someone who gets to the quarterback, which he has proven at doing his entire carrier but if not dumervil would be my second choice.

Well the mention of Peppers on this board has some creaming in their pants asking how to get the guy.

I never mentioned Peppers by name but I see the defense as needing a second corner and a pass rushing DE. That being said, in this defensive system, a pass rushing DE adding pressure to an already blitzing team may make an average corner look like a stud. See the Giants in 2007. Long term, drafting a quality pick at 29 would suffice.

But the fact is that there is no cap for the season. This makes me believe Tanny may spin the first round pick for something big.

Personally, I like Dumervil myself. He has a history in the 3 - 4 and has played both LB and with his hand in the dirt.

He is a FREE AGENT, meaning that he can sign with at the least 20 of the other teams with NOTHING going back to the Panthers. There is no way the Panthers are going to get a first round pick, or anything significant for him when they have no interest in actually offering him the best offer.

an insignificant pick can turn into a great player I won't list the draft steals late, but it certainly is possible an insignficant pick turn out to contribute.

It makes sense to franchise peppers and deal him to the highest bidder, no matter what that big may be.

If Peppers hits UFA, can Carolina still S&T him? If that's the case, if he really wants to play for the Jets the Panthers can trade him for a 5th and I think that's a deal they'd run with (let him go away for no compensation potentially to the Saints or Falcons who'd terrorize them for the next 3-5 years or trade him away out of the conference and get SOMETHING)

Tempting? sure, but Peppers is a smart bitch! He wont even sign the franchise tag until late. That leaves Carolina with really no leverage. They basically have to let him go since Peppers wont sign the tag and Carolina can't trade without it until late in the off season.

he won't be a d.e. in this system.he would be a olb and he's never done that.
i don't think peppers could play d.e. in the 3-4.and if he did he wouldn't get the sacks everyone would expect.the d.e. doesn't do that in this system.personally i hope we stay away from him.keep the 29th pick, its like a top 15 pick in most drafts because of the talent this year.

I live in the Charlotte area and as of right now the Panthers have no intention on signing him or putting a tag on him...if they tag him & don't trade they would have to pay him 20+mil for one season.

I personally think Peppers would be some sort of hybrid player in a 3-4. Have his hand on and off the ground in base sets, rush from all over the place, play 3-4 end, 3-4 OLB, he'll probably do a little of everything, but mostly just rush the passer.

If they tagged him itd benefit them alot more. They could get a pick and some players from many many teams. Some may even jump the gun and offer 1st and 3rds if they felt Peppers is there key to a championship. This is why i love the idea of him ,not getting him for a 1st and 3rd, but getting him for a resonable price that fits both sides ( Unless Tanny could rape em ina trade  ) but aquiring him makes this defense and everyone around him better. Revis and the secondary get more picks, Ellis and Jenks get more sacks and the LB's along side him bring even more pressure on the QB. That kinda D would be unstoppable IMO
