that would be my point, it depends entirely on what conversation took place between Rex and Aso. one thing is not tampering, the other clearly is. My guess is the actual conversation that happened was somewhere in between.
he said he spoke to Rex about it, not that they had a conversation about it. him talking to Rex can be something as simple as him telling Rex he'd love to play for the Jets and is there anything he can do about it. nothing about talking to Rex intimates Rex participated in a discussion about it, it means he spoke, not Rex. them having a conversation would be Rex entertaining the idea and discussing how they could get it done.
Just a quick reminder.. if somehow some bullshit went down.. and the jets get hit with a tampering charge.. what is the penalty.. first rounder this draft??
I doubt that anything will come of it, but given the language that Aso used in that interview, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Crazy Al has a hair up his ass about the Jets and wants to file charges. Hell, he traded Moss to New England and then less than a year later was saying that the Pats tampered with Moss. But to answer your question, I think tampering charges are not a set penalty, their severity is at the behest of the commissioner.
for tampering to have gone down, they'd have to prove an organizational attempt to undermine the Raiders and pry the player from them. the player approaching the coach unsolicited and broaching the subject hardly fits the criteria of tampering. even if the Jets then took that info and contacted the Raiders it wouldn't be tampering on the Jets part, simply making an inquiry.

I will be amazed if Asomugha becomes a Jet, but anything is possible with Tanny at the helm. If he comes here, instead of Revis Island it would be known as Revis Assmugger
