Don't like the pic too Kurt... not this year and not with 5 picks in the whole draft.

Don't mean to pile on you, Kurt. But I would've went a different route in the 2nd round for the Jets.

Selecting a HB that high after we drafted S.Greene last year....yikes. :eek:hmy:

The names only exist in this post now. Oh...maybe Kurt's post too.

If we did take a RB that high, I would hope that Jones would be gone. Or we get picks for Leon.

  5. Again, this is under the assumption that Jones is gone as well as the fact that Gerhart is used not only as an RB but also as an H-back/Full back in sub packages(I.E. Chris Cooley)

that would be the ideal scenario.

But with the Iupati pick (which i LOVE)...and if Leon/TJ stay intact....this pick should've been "defense"....no question.

Not a fan of the Gerhart pick, just because Rex said we will have a more balanced offense this year, Greene/Leon/Chauncey Washington or Jones can carry the load of a 60/40 run/pass offense, instead of the higher ratio we had this year.

Hate, hate, hate, hate the Gerhart pick! Sorry, Kurt. I like the player, but if there's anything we should have learned it's that a top OL can make an above average back (TJ) run for 1400 yards. With Greene and Washington returning, picking a third back for the second straight year would severaly hamstring our depth elsewhere. If Danny Woodhead can't be the 3rd runningback, then what is he doing in the NFL? Same with Chauncey Washington, who was on our practice squad.

The way I see it, the Jets at this point would have drafted a backup OL for a line that hasn't missed a game in two seasons and a 3rd string RB in the first 2 rounds in a draft we only have 5 picks in. I would want Tannenbaum's head on a stick, even though I don't have any problems with either player.

But position needs to take precedence over BPA if it's close, and I don't think either players was far and away the bext guy.

I like taking OL depth, just not round one. A cornerback would have been nice. Or a pass rushing LB. Or a young DL to build around. I want to make this defense elite as soon as possible, and I feel this draft doesn't help us take the next step forward in 2010. Sorry.

Hey guys.....I'm back from work. I'll be here the rest of the day if you need someone to PM their draftboard.

    Big thanks to MBGreen.

Also, Jetfanmack for updating the picks.

Sorry Kurt, but I'm grabbing the pitchfork and lighting the torch.

Echoing what others have said, there is just no way we can go RB in the second after selecting an OL in the first. 1000 yard backs are a dime a dozen in this day and age, and our offensive line could make even a bum look above average.

So in a year where we are severely hampered in free agency, now we would be into the 4th round without addressing any of the teams most pressing needs (DE, CB, WR). OL depth and another RB would be great, but they would be luxuries and certainly at the bottom of the barrel as far as priorities go.

I understand your point about value, but I believe we have to draft with a different mentality this year. While we don't want to get crazy reaching for players, we also are not in the position to simply go BPA. We have positions that absolutely NEED to be filled through the draft, and your mock didn't target any of them.

Jet's pick is a head scratcher.

There is one very special defensive player available that should be a NY Jet. I'm surprised he hasn't been selected yet.

Guys...I want to let you know, for the most part this draft has been going GGGGGGGGGGGGREAT.

I will be assigning teams for the 7 Round mock after this draft is over, in a few days.

    I get first choice:)

Green Hurricane has never been the Jet's GM and deserves a shot...I hope you agree.

I would like everyone to get a different team, if possible.

I will contact you and let you know what's available.

Don't put in any requests till the draft is over.

A few GMs won't be offered a team.

Newbies will be put on a waitlist!!

If we're thinking the same guy, then I'm really mad our 2nd round pick has already been used on a RB.

This guy is one of the ten best players in the draft when everything's going right.

We'll see soon, somebody's got to take him..... wake up everyone:)!!

  18. I stand by my selections.

I believe in drafting for value and depth above all else. Both of my selections can improve a sporadic offense(Which IS a need) from day 1. Just b/c we can't pencil them in as starters..doesn't mean they can't be pivotal pieces.

I'm not sure why it's not being acknowledged that Gerhart can contribute in other areas than just RB. In this day in age...offenses are becomming more and more unconventional. Adding multi-facted weapons w/ unique skill sets is just as important as having your starting 11. Gerhart is capable of doing things that no one else on this offense are capable of doing. Throw him in motion in an I formation...he can move to the slot, TE,Full back OR even half back. With his skills, the defense has to account for him.

Did you all forget what happend when greene went down in the second half against Indy? Did Jones instill ANY hope for the future if Greene endures another injury? Are you fully confident Washington is gonna come back at 100% And even if he does..he's always a risk for catastrophic injuries w/ his stature. Gerhart GIVES us a security blanket behind Greene. He also can help on the field WITH Greene...and finally he provides another change of pace option in the backfield.

This pick DOES fill a need. The need for another offensive weapon, the need for depth behind Greene, and the need for another option for a run heavy offense.

As for Iupati....again, he was the best player available on my board. I had many other players at the onslaught I had rated above him that wouldve arguably filled a bigger need. They weren't available. So instead, we get arguably the best Guard prospect since Hutchinson to learn behind and eventually REPLACE Faneca. Additionally, he's GOING to seen time on the field the same way Wayne Hunter and Rob Turner found time last season. Jumbo packages in the "Ground and pound". W/ his run blocking ability he will be an absolute asset...and it will allow him a unique way to get on the field, get some reps and learn the speed of the game.

I know there's no way I'm gonna please everyone w/ these picks. W/ where this franchise is at we can go alot of different directions. But I'm VERY pleased w/ what I've done thus far. I havent reached, I've gotten prime value and at least in my assumption I've improved the roster short term AND long term.
